Anyone else worried about kids getting sent home to isolate just before going on holiday?

As title says- my Daughter is in secondary school due to break up next week for summer. We have a UK break booked (rented a house) straight after school finishes.

I feel like it's really closing in on us here- lots of kids already being sent home to isolate, daily emails from school of new cases. It's just rife!

I'm just wondering if this happened to you would you still go? Or do as your told and miss out on a very much needed holiday.

Although this hasn't happened (fingers crossed it doesn't) it could happen. Given that the isolation rules are changing on 19th August I would be inclined to just fu*k it and go anyway, even though this is rule breaking. (And do daily LF tests)

I'm just interested what others would do if this happened to them? As it will happen to some. Confused

Our school is allowing an authorised absence to any parent wishing to take their child out of school a few days early...

We are staying home ten days before we go to holiday. Not that we planned especially to be able to isolate but dh can't get off before that.

DS sent home today. Isolation ends on 20th we go away on 23rd. Very close call. Just have to hope he doesn’t get symptoms now. No way am I doing LFT’s on any of us. I work in a school and don’t break up til 21st. If my bubble bursts and I end up isolating, I will do so until the 23rd then I will be break it and go on holiday.

We are going away next weekend. If DS gets sent home to isolate then we're still going.

I've heard of a lot of people taking their kids out of school the last week to avoid them having to isolate and miss holidays. Can't say I blame them, for a lot of people rearranging holidays Can't happen due to cost and time off work etc.

I don't have plans to go away, but I'll be most put out if I have to spend the summer isolating.

Generally speaking, I am a proper rule follower but I will admit that currently, I am avoiding checking in anywhere unless someone makes me (they never do) and I'm not doing my LF tests either.

If law abiding, rule following me is behaving like this, I can't imagine many people are doing much better.

I originally booked ours for straight after school term ends then I thought I bet DS will get isolation and that's holiday wrecked so paid £35 to move weeks to later. Though he's currently isolating for 10 days now and only back for 3 days at end though he seems to get every isolation going so he may get another one.

A lot in his year are testing positive - maybe 10% of those off so far unlike previous times when no-one did. And I think about half are testing.

I'm so stressed about this. We're booked to go away 23rd July, both kids are currently self isolating due to both their school bubbles bursting. No symptoms whatsoever. One DC is back in school on Friday this week, the other on Monday next week, so 4 and 3 days of term left, respectively.

I keep reading about kids getting back into school for a day or two, only to have the bubble burst and it start all over again. I'm considering keeping them off now until Sept but they will miss out on some really fun activities at school (both primary) and I am already being driven insane by them so not sure adding extra days is a good idea.

I genuinely don't know what to do for the best. I'll be beyond gutted if we can't go away, we all will.

It seems a lot of us have a similar way of thinking here.
I have also heard of people taking kids out to prevent it- I'm not going to do that, I think they have missed enough school already.

Fingers crossed this won't even happen- but if it does I think I would just go.
(I am normally an avid rule follower too)

If dc needed to isolate we would go because both had covid last week.

Same boat here. School finishes 23rd, meant to be going on holiday 24th.

Considering pulling them a week early once the fun stuff is done, to give the DC some certainty, more than anything else.

Fly in ointment is DC in Y6.

Friend of mine was contacted last week and told to isolate for ten days because of confirmed close contact...she isolated for five days then went on holiday!

I’d love to pull my kids from school a week before but I only get a certain amount of holidays, people on mn seem to have endless amounts of annual leave.

Yep me too, dreading a msg from the school at the moment. Not sure what we would do if it happened, we have followed all the rules so far but would be tempted.

My son is in his last day of isolating after catching covid from school. So far the rest of us have avoided getting it. We are supposed to go away on the 24th. My two children are meant to return to school on Fri. Then break up from school on the 21st. I'm dreading it and really don't want to send them! Knowing how close we've come to losing the holiday already!

We normally go away as soon as school breaks up but this year I’ve booked for 2 weeks later than usual so they can semi isolate at home for the 10 days before. I’ll still need to work and there is a medical appointment to attend so it won’t be 100% isolation but it will minimise the risks. I probably wouldn’t pull them out of school if I’d booked earlier but I’d definitely be sweating!

Im in the same boat. Ds2 at primary school currently self isolating , due back monday for final 4 days. We go on holiday on the Friday. So i am seriously considering keeping him off those 4 days.
Ds1 in secondary has school events he doesn't want to miss next monday and tuesday so he will go to those. Might keep him off wednesday and thurs.
Tbh we will just go anyway i think even if told to self isolate by school. Staying in self catering house and will keep away from others.

I dont think schools would give this info out. I hope they wouldnt

I’m sure it’s illegal to give out information on medical history without permission so I’m sure the school / council / anyone cannot provide lists of those with COVID, never mind their close contacts

No, but the school are acting as Track and Trace in this capacity, so it’s an actual requirement, not a wish list.

Yes! We break up on 23rd and go away on 24th. DH and I are both teachers so we can't very well pull ourselves out of school early to reduce the risk of being told to isolate. If one of the four of us has to isolate, we'll be unable to go on 24th and at least one of the other families we're going with will be affected because we're meant to be taking some of their kit on our trailer.
