Anyone else worried about kids getting sent home to isolate just before going on holiday?

As title says- my Daughter is in secondary school due to break up next week for summer. We have a UK break booked (rented a house) straight after school finishes.

I feel like it's really closing in on us here- lots of kids already being sent home to isolate, daily emails from school of new cases. It's just rife!

I'm just wondering if this happened to you would you still go? Or do as your told and miss out on a very much needed holiday.

Although this hasn't happened (fingers crossed it doesn't) it could happen. Given that the isolation rules are changing on 19th August I would be inclined to just fu*k it and go anyway, even though this is rule breaking. (And do daily LF tests)

I'm just interested what others would do if this happened to them? As it will happen to some. Confused

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have a positive case. The children in my class are so excited to see their families, either abroad or in the UK. They've had an awful year and it's just nice to see them looking forward to something!

Having seen another whole year group sent home today after returning from isolation last week, and speaking to the school, I will be keeping my DC off now until September. I realise that I'm fortunate to be able to make that choice though, and I really feel for anyone who is feeling the stress of all this.

Frazzled2207 · 14/07/2021 21:44

@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon

My local education authority has confirmed that they are keeping the bubble system up until the end of term on 22 July. We are supposed to go away on 23 July.......
As i understand it keeping the bubble system until the end of term is sensible and keeps risks down to a minimum to the end.
Frazzled2207 · 14/07/2021 21:44

Not that the risk is small of course. Is definitely pretty high round here. I have one off and just waiting for the other to be sent home.

There's a really interesting article on the BBC website about how the next few weeks will be "a perfect storm for pregnant women".

I would post a link but nobody on this thread cares about the growing risk to pregnant women

The title of the the thread relates to children being sent home from school to isolate therefore ruining holiday plans. I'm sure we are all concerned about the impact on pregnant women but that is, literally, a whole other thread and not what is being debated here.
Kitkatchunkyplease · 15/07/2021 07:40

My dd has just (right now, been there 40 mins!!) been sent home from nursery school to isolate. That's our holiday to Cornwall over. We were due to go on Sat. Gutted.

Watapalava · 15/07/2021 07:53

Why won’t you just go? Nobody will phone you from a nursery so as long as you’re careful you’d be fine

No one is isolating from achool and nursery contacts round here as no one chaces up

Kitkatchunkyplease · 15/07/2021 07:54

I just feel like it's a bit shitty to still go, although I have considered it! Just a pain.

Who said that they don't care?

But to be honest I'm not going to continue to put my life on hold because somebody chose to get pregnant.

Northernlurker · 15/07/2021 08:18

If you are self catering I would go with a nursery aged child. You can keep them isolated. Are you fully vaccinated?

organisedmother · 15/07/2021 09:31

Just received that dreaded text from my sons school to say someone in the class has a positive test… so 10 days isolation now he will miss the end of term and the party day and saying goodbye to teachers he’s only 6 he will be very upset :( and we go on holiday in exactly 12 days!!

The OP wants her holiday and fuck everybody else.

xksismybestletter · 15/07/2021 20:48

We are supposed to be going camping this weekend with friends and my child is SI until Sunday. This is such a long awaited break and I really want to go but I know it is not legal and I follow rules. I'm really torn.

xksismybestletter · 15/07/2021 20:49

Oh I know she is fine btw, the burst bubble was another class in her year. She is much less likely to have it than the rest of us.

NoGoodOptions · 15/07/2021 20:56

We're deciding between either keeping our children home or just going regardless. After two back to back isolations, I will tell you one thing: I'm definitely not missing a holiday due to this messed up system.

Backofbeyond50 · 15/07/2021 21:20

OK so those who are saying not to report positive LFT tests would you still send kids into school or phone in sick for something else? If the latter fair enough but if the former than that is not great.

Most people on this thread are saying the same thing, including me.

Regarding pregnant women, getting pregant in the middle of a pandemic is a choice, it's your choice of course but don't expect everyone else to continue to put their lives on hold for your choices.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/07/2021 21:38

Our yr 7 were all sent home as a precautionary measure as cases were creeping up. Only the close contacts are isolating but the rest were just sent home after the school took advice from public health England.

This time it’s only a day early but it’s quite a relief tbh. At Christmas they did the same but about a week early.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/07/2021 21:41

I think a case could be made for going on a self catering holiday anyway and sticking to very quiet walks etc If that’s your bag. Not a holiday resort or hotel.

kerosene20 · 15/07/2021 22:51

I am very stressed about this happening after school finishes tomorrow. We’re off to Edinburgh on a city breakon Saturday. What do we do if we get a message from school while we’re there??

Northernlurker · 15/07/2021 23:46

Switch your phone off. That's how we lived twenty five years ago.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 16/07/2021 09:09

Avoid this happening!

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 16/07/2021 10:00

I'd still go. Last week my ds, dsc and dn, 3 diff schools. All were sent to isolate! Dn still went away, ds went and played football outside with his mates. The whole thing is utterly bollocks now.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 19/07/2021 21:51

Pulling mine out as of tonight. Missed so much after last two school years I can't see 1.5 days is going to mean fail exams next year. I can't risk plans down the toilet for the next week including seeing elderly relatives next week we haven't see now for two years
