Pfizer Vaccine......DH fitness gone downhill since.....

Both DH & I had our 1st dose around 5 weeks ago. He's usually very fit, 3, 4 bike rides a week, very active. He's only managed one ride since having the vaccine. I'm not anywhere near as fit. I got a bit of an achey arm after that's it. DH noticed after first few days of having vaccine, he felt unusually tired, getting breathless, which wasn't like him. He also felt stabbing pains in his chest/heart. He's since been to the doctors about 3 times, 3 different doctors can hear a murmur in his heart. He went to the hospital about 10 days ago where they did a heart trace and took bloods. This didn't pick anything up.

Today he still felt quite bad, like its uncomfortable to breathe and he has had pain in his arm. His arm had a vibration sensation in it last night. He rang the doctors today and she told him to go to A&E as she too can hear the murmur when she listened to his heart.

So he's there now again. The kept him in from 7pm until 3pm the following day last time doing bloods etc, I don't understand why they didn't do an echocardiogram then?! He's due to have an chest x-ray this week but hopefully they'll do it today.

Of course its easy to link this to the vaccine as prior to this he was absolutely fine and had not seen a doctor in 7 years. He would normally cycle up to 50 miles or more, maybe 3 times a week. He can barely manage to kick a ball about in the garden without sitting down catching his breath. Totally different in the space of 5 weeks.

Any body else had these symptoms after the vaccine?

Yes, I have. I have had palpitations/chest pain/breathlessness. I bought a Kardia heart monitor and it showed abnormalities. Have had an ECG, which was abnormal. Having a 24hr ECG this week.
This has been going on since March. I had a bereavement, and thought it was a response to this. But when I thought about it, it started after the vaccine.
I also noticed that my oxygen levels were dropping to 92% when doing housework/changing beds.
I had beta blockers prescribed, which has helped. And after 3 weeks it seems to have mostly resolved.
I have had 2 doses, and won’t be having a third.

This is an example of the Kardia readings I’ve been having.

I had Pfizer 5 weeks ago. I've had palpitations. Breathlessness and extreme tiredness since to the point I'm napping 2 hours a day! I'm seriously contemplating even having 2nd dose.

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 12/07/2021 18:39

I've had bloods done and all normal!

TheSquigglething · 12/07/2021 18:46

There's an increasingly established link of the jab with myocarditis (in extreme cases), especially in young males, as I'm sure you know. So perhaps there's a subclinical state which some people get??? Not full myocarditis but something more mild...? I know someone who has had very similar experiences to your husband, and this is what their doctor suggested may have happened. 3 months later, he's much better.

Namenic · 12/07/2021 18:47

I think the echo would be beneficial or perhaps a CT - do keep pressing the doctors if symptoms continue. It could be an issue with heart or lungs - but it is not normal to go from cycling 3x per week to unable to kick a football in garden in 5weeks.

Sanguinesuzy · 12/07/2021 19:31

They wouldn't do the echo in A/E unless his bloods or ecg suggested an acute event. He'll probably get one through his GP or if referred to a cadiologist. I presented with a similar thing 10 days post jab but also had long covid so not sure what caused it.

Sadsiblingatsea · 12/07/2021 19:49

Why on earth are people still having this jab when there are so many side-effects?
Check out the yellow card scheme. Although many people are having side-effects and not reporting them, but it will give a flavour.

Because it's still a very small percentage? And the risk or dying from Covid is much, much higher.

okay, so quick update.
They did a Echo, he has heart inflammation and 2 murmurs. I don't think the murmurs are connected to the heart inflammation and at this stage we can't establish whether either or both are side effects to the vaccine, he could have had the murmurs since birth, but I'd be inclined to think he wouldn't manage all those bike rides if that was the case? I don't know, at least they have picked up on it and he's in the right place. They are keeping him in for now and fingers crossed whatever this is, it will be something temporary or at least something managable. DH has already stressed there is no way he is having the 2nd dose!

No, he's staying in overnight. Never checked his heart prior to getting the vaccine as never needed to.

Thankyou for your well wishes, Iike I said I'm hoping its nothing serious, I don't suspect it is as he wasn't collapsing or anything like that and I don't mean that in an ignorant way as to say you have to be collapsing to be very very ill, but you know what I mean, as he's been able to go to work.

My friend and her father had az and both had stabbing pains in the chest
( mum sister and brother were fine)
She wasn’t going to have second but after postponing it
She caved and had it done
Same thing happened
Also had terrible blood clots which have only just eased months later
She won’t be having any boosters

shewalkslikerihanna · 12/07/2021 22:31

I wish him a full recovery

Scutterbug · 12/07/2021 22:34

This is interesting. Since I’ve had the vaccine I’ve had lots of breathless episodes, I feel like I need to keep taking deep breaths or yawning to get oxygen. I am also much more tired, needing a sleep some afternoons.I find any exercise makes me sweat MASSIVELY too!

Regalhen · 12/07/2021 22:34

Yes I’ve had mild breathlessness and sharp stabbing pains in chest a few times a day since having my second Pfizer vaccine at the end of May. I also had massively heavy bleeding two days after which still isn’t fully resolved.

I haven’t done anything about the mild breathlessness or chest pains as I can still cycle 30 mins a day and though I get out of breath faster I still recover quickly. I do have a heart murmur too but it’s never given any trouble. Hoping it’s self limiting as haven’t noticed chest pains for a few days

Regalhen · 12/07/2021 22:35

I hope he is ok and out soon and starts feeling better quickly

FannyFifer · 12/07/2021 22:40

Myocarditis & pericarditis are both rare side effects associated with Pfizer vaccine. Essentially an inflammation of the heart muscle or the sac around the heart.
Hope he is ok.

This and also pericarditis has started to crop up in a sample of those having had the P jab, slightly raised in males between 20-40.
Raindancer411 · 14/07/2021 16:54

How is he now and how old is he? I am due my second and had palpations after but I have that and pounding heart at times (all be checked out) so a bit worried to have my second currently.

harryandmarv · 14/07/2021 17:09

He was discharged last night, with meds to reduce inflammation, it looks like pericarditis. They obviously wouldn't say whether its connected to the vaccine or not, its just co-incidence that the symptoms have appeared since having the vaccine. He has to go back for an MRI at some point.

Sorry he's 37
