Is anyone still using the NHS track and trace app?

I heard on Radio 4 today that 25 million people downloaded it, but the govt has no idea how many people are still using it. So are you?

Nope, it was rubbish. I as getting pinged when I hadn't even left the house, because we have a pub & cafes nearby Confused

farfallarocks · 06/07/2021 21:53

Nope. You don’t have to sign in either you can just leave a phone number

Quaggars · 06/07/2021 22:03

No I've never had it.
I do fill in one of those paper and pen thingies though. The old fashioned way lol

doesparentingsuck · 06/07/2021 22:04

No never had it and never will. It's a step too far IMO

loulouljh · 06/07/2021 22:05

Nope. Have never had it downloaded. Never will.

@LouLou198

Sky news we're interviewing someone this morning (I didn't catch the first bit so don't know who he was) who said there is a lot of confusion around checking into places. He said a lot of people (myself included) thought that if they gave a pub/restaurant their contact details on check in they would be contacted if there was a positive case and told to isolate. Apparently this isn't so, the establishment can only contact you and advise you to be careful and let you know you may have been near someone who has tested positive. Only the app with the tracing turned on can ask you to isolate.
Oh that's interesting, I did wonder what happened as we always give our names and phone nos to the caravan sites we stay on for T and T and I was wondering if someone was positive there how would the site owners they know who the positive person had been near as the sites are quite big and it wouldn't be good if the whole site had to isolate.
Alternista · 06/07/2021 22:14

I used to use it.
Now I still have it, but ive turned contact tracing off and fake checking in when i can.

I was very compliant, and I may yet be again in the future but right now I’m done tbh. If Cummings can drive the length of the country, Boris can entertain global leaders in Cornwall, 50,000 football fans can gather at Wembley and Hancock can get his cock out in the office then I’m going to live my life too.

UnChatNoir · 06/07/2021 22:28

@usernotfound0000

I have tracing turned off and only use it to check in if I am forced to by the venue.
Me too
marmaduke888 · 06/07/2021 22:34

Occasionally when forced to, to check in only, contact tracing off though

MurdockTheMouse · 06/07/2021 22:44

Deleted it. I figured out you could look at how many ‘exposures’ you had had over two weeks and it sent my health anxiety into overdrive.

Quaggars · 06/07/2021 23:20

@MouldyPotato

I use it as I use public transport
@MouldyPotato you have to use it on public transport? Don't have that here (UK) but I suppose it might be different depending on where you are or what mode of transport you're using
Tubbs99 · 06/07/2021 23:33

Never downloaded it. I just fake check in when I’m out and none of the bar or restaurant staff have ever bothered to check.

XenoBitch · 06/07/2021 23:34

Nope, never used it to start with. And I am glad of that considering how much anxiety it seems to have caused for people who did use it.

I've been posting this info about how the app, venue check in and contact tracing work on various threads on MN for a while. So many people incorrectly think it's the venue check in or giving your name and number which will result in you being told to self isolate. All the info about how the app actually works can be accessed from there there in the app and there's plenty of info on gov.uk about how the manual sign in works, but I guess many haven't read any of it.

I do think the government should have given clear details about how it all works at their briefings, or even in their TV information videos.

TheHobbitMum · 06/07/2021 23:54

Nope, none of us in my household have it and fake sign in also.

Tulips15 · 07/07/2021 00:30

Never had it

How ?
JovialNickname · 07/07/2021 03:39

No, they can fuck off

Topseyt · 07/07/2021 04:15

I have the app. I keep Bluetooth turned off though so it can't work.

I pretend to check in too. Only do it for real if I think I might be being observed, which is rare.

MouldyPotato · 07/07/2021 06:29

Quaggars I don't have to use it but I do use it as I am often sat by strangers and thought they might like to know if I get COvid

HowdyDudey · 07/07/2021 06:34

Downloaded it and now deleted after being hounded with phone calls this week from their company. After this debacle, I’m not going for a PCR again either.

zafferana · 07/07/2021 07:24

Test and trace, track and trace - pffft - it just shows I use Royal Mail, but not this app! And I now feel better about not using it since hardly anyone else is either.

OP posts:
lagerandblack · 07/07/2021 07:34

No, never downloaded it and wont check into any venue either. Never had covid and never had to isolate.

JazzerMcCreary · 07/07/2021 07:38

I deleted it when I realised that DH had been notified to isolate because our neighbour had covid and it had picked up the signal through the wall. I decided at that point that it really wasn’t worth it.

Sillyduckseverywhere · 07/07/2021 07:40

I only downloaded it because my workplace wanted us to.
I never have contact tracing on and only check in if forced to.
Too many issues, last week I was at an event, random people pinged afterwards, like a wife, but not her husband.
I really have no faith in it at all.
I test twice a week, I'm not isolating because some app that's not fit for purpose decides I'm typhoid mary
