Will we still need to quarantine on our way back from other countries etc?

OP posts:
Postdatedpandemic · 05/07/2021 23:29

Only if you want to?

Boomisshiss · 05/07/2021 23:31

Don’t throw your masks away just yet looks like they will be required in Scotland for a long time if you are planning a visit .

ssd · 05/07/2021 23:31

Probably not. Its a free for all now.

Boomisshiss · 05/07/2021 23:31

Sorry wrong thread

MyOtherProfile · 05/07/2021 23:31

Nah you can do what you like. Chris whitty and the other medical experts will still be following restrictions but they can't make Boris do what they say so the rest of us can make it up as we go along. And it won't be BJs fault when we all get sick because he is letting us do what we like.
Bit like the parent who lets their kid eat all the candyfloss and when they're sick blames the child who didn't have all the necessary information.

EasterIssland · 05/07/2021 23:37

OfficiL Announcement of what will happen is coming this week I think he’s said today. So til then it’s all speculation

Postdatedpandemic · 05/07/2021 23:46

We have a reasonable vaccination rate (like Israel) but not quite high enough for herd immunity.
Come Winter this will be a problem.
So easiest and cheapest option is to go for herd immunity by natural selection. Let infections run riot amongst the willing and pray that a moderate Winter infection rate will follow.
The Tories were working on reducing the social care bill before the pandemic hit. The more vulnerable people that die, the better.

PenelopeP1tstop · 05/07/2021 23:47

@MyOtherProfile what exactly do you want then? To hide behind your sofa forever? Have your hand held until the end of time?

BJ simply can't win. You've got halfwits who can't do a thing off their own back it appears

Not sure what your answer has to do with the original question …

This is all so confusing.

I was sort of joking in my post - but I'm also very confused ...

I'm not vaccinated. I've not been keeping an eye on the rules as it's all so depressing and ever changing. Apart from being unvaccinated we're a super safe family and very unsociable which adds to our safety.

I'd really like to go on holiday - but that was looking impossible. I wonder whether we'll be allowed to go now.

Have they given up with vaccines too? Somebody said on another thread that Boris had said they were ineffectual - is that right?

EasterIssland · 05/07/2021 23:51

Every time they’ve spoken about lifting the quarantine is for double vaccinated people so in your scenario you’d have to self isolate

Dustyboots · 06/07/2021 00:00

I realise that so far is the case @EasterIssland. Thank you.

It just feels as though today every rule and restriction has been thrown out of the window and I'm wondering whether all the travel stuff has been too - or will be.

It's not quarantining when you come back from other countries that you have to worry about. It's more about not being allowed in anywhere else when our rates are climbing if your own population is not vaccinated yet.

If you were the government of another country, would you want the residents of a country where COVID cases are skyrocketing visiting you?

SaskiaRembrandt · 06/07/2021 05:52

No.

leafygarden42 · 06/07/2021 05:53

@BarbaraofSeville - remarkably - that is exactly what Germany has done. ie lifted travel restrictions (as long as you have been double jabbed) - and German tourists are allowed to travel to Majorca freely.

WHO has warned that there will be a serious upsurge in Europe.

I'm getting a weird deja vu thing going on from last summer 'Eat out to Help Out' and then by November things were going very pear shaped indeed.

Why aren't you vaccinated?
Squidlydoo · 06/07/2021 05:58

He’s happy to let us enjoy 6-8 weeks of fun. It will be our own fault when it goes pear shape and restrictions are re-introduced. In fact, by then we will probably be begging for restrictions!

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/07/2021 06:12

If you're not vaccinated I'm not sure many other countries will admit you anyway. Many will choose the vaccine passport route. I'm speculating.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 06/07/2021 06:15

Is this a real question!???

You won't be able to go on holiday for a long time if you aren't vaccinated. Nowhere will let you in.

Sloaneslone · 06/07/2021 06:30

Not sure who said this, or what thread it was on. But don't you think if Boris has said that, there would be easing restrictions?

Of it wouldn't be on every news outlet all over the world?

Is this person telling your Boris said vaccines are ineffectual and everyone just went 'oh fair enough'

Posted too soon. I've been wondering about up here. Has something came out to say Scotland are keeping masks?
LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/07/2021 06:36

@Dustyboots
We are expected to hear this week that travellers from amber countries who are vaccinated will no longer have to quarantine. So I'm afraid unless you are vaccinated at this stage if you want to go away without quarantine you are limited to the limited green list.

You aren't vaccinated, so you may have quarantine restrictions wherever you are going as well as on return. It's fairly simple; the majority have been vaccinated, but it isn't enough for herd immunity so others will catch covid when restrictions are lifted and overall they've decided it's better for those infections to come now than in winter. As someone who's decided you'd prefer to get infected than vaccinated, it isn't clear why this is a surprise to you?

Not for people who aren't vaccinated. I'm double vaxxed and feeling very hopeful for my August holiday.
