How many of you have got children off school at the moment?

I read a statistic yesterday that think about 375000 are off school currently due to bubbles bursting!

My dd is currently off and the local high school has three years out!

Don’t get me fucking started. My daughter is home as is her whole year group and I’m a TA and my class are now isolating. There are at least 6 staff off in both schools and various siblings. We sent about 15 kids home a day ago coughing and siblings and it’s all gone to hell basically. This is bollocks. Most staff/parents will have had at least one jab and have barely more than a cold. I feel
Sympathy for anyone who gets it worse and indeed I know a parent who has been very poorly but this has got to stop now. Beyond ridiculous when the majority are vaccinated.

ButterflyBitch · 01/07/2021 21:49

My class was isolating at half term so only few weeks ago so I’m really done with this shit now. I’m going to miss my sons school play and can’t take him to his secondary transition tour (he has additional needs) and have had to ask a school friend mum to take him as my husband is away. I’m fuming with this crap now. When will it stop?

0None0 · 01/07/2021 21:54

Secondary teacher here. It exploded in one year group this afternoon, and we now have closed two whole year groups. One to self isolate, ( pending confirmation s by pcr). And one year group because there are not enough staff available to supervise them on site

Pepsee · 01/07/2021 21:54

None. 3 children, two primary one childminder. Only had one bubble burst once out of all three since the pandemic began. Extremely lucky.

iamtopazmortmain · 01/07/2021 22:03

The number of infections here are going through the roog. 14 in our very small local primary and the whole secondary school of on the next county. Once it gets into the school it rips through it. Several staff off with covid in the primary school too. It would be impossible to staff some year groups now even if they were not isolating burst bubbles.

Looks like we are settling for herd immunity after all. I am not at all happy that our children are being used in this way.

Madcats · 01/07/2021 22:13

1 child had a positive PCR, so 7 are off to isolate at DD's secondary school. Her friend's school has two entire year groups off. As do several other schools in the town (but not sure of numbers of kids unwell).

I struggle to understand how schools in the same local authority (so presumably they are talking to the same council/PHE person) haven't figured out how to arrange things to minimise isolations.

Aside from the under 18's and the university students (and they are slowly getting vaccines) pretty much every adult has been jabbed at least once here, many twice. There are 7 patients in our hospital with covid (up from 2 a month ago, I admit). The last person to die within 28 days of a covid diagnosis was in early March.

okilydokily · 01/07/2021 22:16

In our school, Y2, Y5 (DS's class), Y6. Half the school.

Hallyup6 · 01/07/2021 22:18

My year 6 child is off. My year 8 child is disappointed that she's not, but 200/300 of her year group are, and the vast majority of year 10.

Amazingly, my nursery aged child hasn't been off once.

covidandborisandworld · 01/07/2021 22:22

Last week yes

This week my nephew and another friend as well

Landslidelife · 01/07/2021 22:23

Yes 2 of my 3 dc.

whatkatydid2013 · 01/07/2021 22:23

Mine are both still in the 4 year old hasn’t had to isolate yet & the 6 year old has been out once for a week. There do seem to be a lot of people with kids out in past 2-3 weeks among our friends though

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 01/07/2021 22:24

My child out due to wrap around care bubble closing. She's had a negative PCR, we'll be taking her for a walk this weekend for days 9 and 10.

My own school, nothing. Not since January. But two members of staff isolating as close contacts.

Hophop26 · 01/07/2021 22:46

Dire reading, I hope you are all coping with the isolation periods as best as you can. Such an utter mess for these children, I really hope the bubble bursting isolations stop and don’t come back.

We have been very lucky where we are but parents do realise and appreciate it. Our school has only had 1 bubble burst the whole time, same at the other primaries and only a couple at the secondaries. None currently. Our rates are low and vaccine take up high. Only issue is the volume of holiday makers!! It does feel a bit like a ticking time bomb as surely it can’t stay like this and will spread like crazy at some point

Lupinhere37 · 01/07/2021 22:51

Whole year 10 out in my DD’s school. Apparently several teachers and some year 12s as well.
Just been notified we’re likely moving entirely to online learning for rest of term.
My DD is broken now. I’m frightened for her because it don’t think she can take much more.

0None0 · 01/07/2021 22:52

I don’t think my school will be far behind you

LouNatics · 01/07/2021 22:53

2/3 are at home. In the primary years 1, 3, 4 and 6 are currently out. The secondary selects their close contacts so picks them out one by one, currently has class sizes down to 5-6 pupils and compulsory masks in all lessons.

LadyCatStark · 01/07/2021 23:00

No but DS’s school only sends home close contacts not full year groups.

Perfectlystill · 01/07/2021 23:07

Yes my teen DD is off

user1473450164 · 01/07/2021 23:14

Nope both at school. No bubbles burst at my daughters school. Tbh I think most people around here have just stopped testing their kids, so it's likely there we, we just don't know it!

Kitkat151 · 01/07/2021 23:18

My 2 year old granddaughter is isolating from nursery as a close contact ( the whole 2 year room are)....at my 5 Year old grandaughters school 2 classes from year 4 and 2 classes from year 5 are isolating.

Winnithegreat · 01/07/2021 23:19

Both my dcs are off since today - one year 8, the other year 6, so different schools. The 2nd SI for the oldest one and the 1st for the youngest, so I feel we’ve been lucky so far.
I have heard from many friends from different schools children were sent home in the last 2 days so it feels like an explosion of cases (Yorkshire)

Hellocatshome · 01/07/2021 23:20

Year 6 isolating the first time their bubble has ever burst. Year 9 at school but in classes of about 5 kids as so many are at home.

autumnboys · 01/07/2021 23:24

Primary school bubbles burst last week for the first time. About 150 pupils off, although my child’s class is in.

Also have 1 secondary age child, who is in although lots of his year off. One sixth former where things appear to be okay, but they’ve only got one (massive!) year group in at the moment, which might help a bit.

Vargas · 01/07/2021 23:25

None. 3 in London.

Flidina · 01/07/2021 23:31

My son is Y10 whole year group sent home to isolate, 2nd time in a month, Y9 are also out, some teachers isolating as well, expecting more cases of isolation as have been told its rife within the school.
