@RedToothBrush you should post that on all the covid threads. In fact can you do the next press conference instead of Boris?
I actually think that this is the type of messaging we will start to see at the back end of next week. I think they will probably hold off as long as possible, but I think there needs to be 1 to 2 weeks of confidence building too. (And the Euros may influence when this card is played too).
I genuinely think that a lot of people will struggle more than they think they will.
I was having a conversation with a friend about this last night. People are having all sorts of weird and wonderful reactions to the situation and I think they are becoming increasingly more unpredictable and 'out there'.
Basically people are starting to lose the plot slightly on a mass scale, and thats something that could spell trouble as we don't really understand the implications.
(Again another good argument for why we probably need to ease up - at least temporarily should things start to go tits up later).
The UK has had some of the longest and strictest restrictions in the world. That does mean our position and course forward from here may have to be different from elsewhere and may mean we can't be as strict as well like - because we no longer have that capacity because of where we are now.
We can argue about whether we are here because of mistakes. Its irrelevant at this point. We still have to do whats best from this moment in time.
Its getting pretty hard to justify maintaining restrictions. If we do, why are we still maintaining them and what are our criteria and time frame for removing them? Is this realistic or any more viable? And what might be the unintended side effects and hidden costs?
We need to be honest in this conversation.
Most people are anxious to some degree about easing of restrictions. I don't think I've spoken to anyone who hasn't got at least some nervousness and concerns to some degree.
It is to be expected, and we need to support everyone we know in that. Everyone is going to want to go at different paces, and some are going to need a nudge from government and some are going to need friends and family to keep an eye out for them.
