Disgusting. Why doesnt he have security.

OP posts:

I find that video so difficult to watch. Chris Whitty looks extremely tense. He wouldn't be the first person to be beaten to a pulp or knifed by drunken idiots. He had no idea what their motives were and how the assault would escalate or not. How annoying that the police just "had a word" rather than charging them with assault.

User135644 · 29/06/2021 13:17

His Dad was murdered when he was young. It's not surprising he's spooked by these thugs.

WeirdArchitecture · 29/06/2021 13:18

Interesting response if reports on this thread about the police are correct.
I wonder if they were this laid back when women were protesting peacefully......mmm, not.

I sometimes wonder if shitty male behaviour is being condoned and accepted more than ever in recent years.

Flakeymcwakey · 29/06/2021 13:31

I think that video is awful. But I'm a bit annoyed about how clearly everyone can see this is threatening and intimidating and demand protection officers when this is pretty fucking standard for lone women walking past drunk men. Where are my protection officers? Why did Boris suddenly recognise what is probably more or less his own behaviour as straight up harassment when done to a bloke? Where are all the op ends on how maybe Chirs Whitty shouldn't walk around looking like a government boffin and if he does he should expect people (men) to react accordingly? Who is going to op ed to the effect he should calm down, dear?

Sylvan92 · 29/06/2021 14:48

@Wakemeuuuup

That's horrendous. Did you see the protest that seems to be outside his house shouted murderer and traitorSad
That’s just bloody awful.

To be fair I wouldn't be surprised if Chris Witty himself had not wanted to press charges

He seems like a very pragmatic man, and probably knows better than anyone that young lads getting a criminal record for something like this will cause more problems that it'll solve

Sylvan92 · 29/06/2021 16:23

Interesting it’s apparently not going forward because of CW. Ds1 was assaulted but didn’t want the boys charged. The police said it wasn’t his decision to make as an assault affects not just the victim, it can cause distress to those who may witness it.

GlutenFreeGingerCake · 29/06/2021 17:15

These guys are very high profile and taking decisions that are not popular with everyone they certainly need more security.

Inastatus · 29/06/2021 17:38

Absolute scum of the earth! I bet their families are so proud 😡

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 29/06/2021 17:43

Chris Witty is one of the few people who can exit this Covid nightmare with their head held high. If I remember correctly he spent Christmas working on the Covid wards caring for patients.
He just comes across as a gentle and decent man and wankers like these have made him into some kind of meme.

So because its not feasible to give every woman a protection officer, someone who works for the government, whose position has put them in the line of fire, and has been abused in public before shouldn't have one? Right.

You are correct. A member of my family works with him and says he’s the nicest most decent man there is.( also has a fantastic sense of humour) I can well imagine him not wanting to press charges.

At the beginning of all of this, CW said to lock the country down would have huge social and economic effects and it wasn’t to be used lightly.

WeBurnedSoBrightWeBurnedOut · 29/06/2021 17:59

This is so upsetting to watch. Drunken idiots or not, he was clearly very uncomfortable, they should have fucked off and left him alone.

And then to have the whole country see it, he's probably very embarrassed. He seems like such a genuine bloke, he doesn't deserve that.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 29/06/2021 18:14

There is a nexus between some of the threads on here and what happened.

Some of the’AD’ threads amongst others have said the most outrageous things about Whitty and the government’s scientific advisors. And, no, this was not polite disagreement or taking another view, it was aggressive and unnecessarily personal criticism.

Now the same people (OP inter alia) are protesting about what happened. Reminiscent of Henry ii and Thomas a Becket.

AnyFucker · 29/06/2021 18:14

Come off it, Flakey. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 29/06/2021 18:37

@LivingOnAnIsland

Wankers. Hope they get what they deserve.
Yes. A nasty case of Covid springs to mind, for some reason.

Exactly this amazing hypocrisy
Againstmachine · 29/06/2021 18:44

There was a video last year where he was harrassed which was really odd and off the way it was filmed almost like a set up by the government.

That said this one looks plain nasty and intimidating and I feel sorry for him and hope those involved are suitably punished.

valadon68 · 29/06/2021 20:21

We have a huge problem with laddish behaviour in this country. I feel we need a zero tolerance solution. Where I live is full of arseholes this summer, esp with the Euros (to the point the pubs have shut) - we let them get away with so much, and in the meantime we have to walk round anticipating being grabbed or verbally abused by a group of men with no inhibitions, whose only goal is to impress their mates.
Am a millennial who grew up watching people chuckle or sigh resignedly over 'spirited', violent, entitled boys at school - lads will be lads - and doing nothing about it while there was absolutely something to be done. Now we're seeing the result. I just hope the next generation gets it right.

valadon68 · 29/06/2021 20:26

I'm not sure avoiding pressing charges would be a kindness to be honest.

SunbathingDragon · 29/06/2021 20:32

@DobbyTheHouseElk

Poor Chris. He is only advising the government, he’s not responsible for the shit show.

He’s an NHS worker who’s worked insane hours, in wards at his hospital and advising the government. He’s not the bad guy here.

Exactly this.

I hope the police go ahead and investigate even though Chris Whitty isn’t pushing ahead for them to make charges.

Towns and cities are filled with them. Mostly dragged up. Vile, utterly vile. Some of the girls are worse though or could at least give them a run for their money in hideousness.

I disagree with the poor Chris remarks he's a proven liar look at the press conference with Vallance. And if he disagreed with government policy so much he would leave if he was so principled.

Do you actually know what his job title is? What that means?

He’s not a liar. 🙄

MercyBooth · 29/06/2021 21:41

@TheReluctantPhoenix The Chris i complained about was Chris Hopson. I didnt like his attitude in the run up to Christmas.
