I don't understand why they don't have security. They definitely need it in their position. And it's not even as if they're making the decisions. The government is. So it's unfair to attack them whatever somebody's view on how we're handling the pandemic (not that anyone should be attacked).

Lots of people asking tonight why Chris Whitty doesn't have protection officers. They are sadly right. But the bigger question is why on Earth a public health official should need one. This is what happens when people decide division is a useful political tool.

Chris Whitty seems like a decent man, who is doing his best to advise the government on scientific matters and keep the public informed. I don't think he's done anything to deserve being hounded by anyone.

I agree with @MercyBooth. Head scientists across the world have been pilloried and harassed for doing nothing more than their job. It is revolting and these people should be ashamed of themselves - but they wont be.

They need to give these men protection of some sort, or the next time it could be someone who will do the scientists a real harm. That is concerning. If you ever notice Prof Whitty rarely refers to notes when he speaks, he knows his stuff. They need to give these men at least a security guard, now. Before God forbid something really serious happens. This wasn't just name calling, it was assault.
