So it has happened. Both DH and I have been sent an app notification to self-isolate. Fairly sure it was moblie phone contact rather than human. Serves us right for going shopping. At least the DC weren't with us so they can still go to school. I've had two jabs (trial) DH only one so hope we don't get it. Bored already!

By off work, I mean out of the office. All my usual meetings are going ahead as planned.

@Catfox1

I keep forgetting to delete the app so thank you for the reminder. My dad got pinged to isolate for his neighbour testing positive. It’s not likely to travel through a bloody brick wall! Pleaded his case but they still told him to isolate 🙄

This doesn't make sense . If he was pinged by the app who did he plead with?

Those saying they have the app but turn contact tracing off...what's the point of the app then? It doesn't serve any other function than to contact trace does it?

Fupoffyagrasshole · 23/06/2021 23:18

I’m isolating because of the app - I was battling with it thinking I’d not listen! But I’m due to go stay with my parents on Friday and I got worried that there is a chance i could have been in contact with someone and the risk is kody not worth it to be honest - I’d never forgive myself if I spread it to them

So decided to obey and go see them next week instead when my isolation periods over

Is my understanding correct - if we check in somewhere with the app and someone else whose been in the same place at the same time as me is positive I get a message on the app, but I don't have to legally follow it because they aren't necessarily a close contact.

But if I go out with my friend who tests positive . They inform T&T who contact me, and I legally have to isolate ?

If my understanding correct, in the first instance I would do regular tests to make sure I was OK but wouldn't go out of my way to isolate (particularly as I'm double jabbed)

Does that make sense or have I misunderstood?

Yes, that's correct.

The app doesn't recognise features like walls, so some of the "contacts" may not have existed. I could be pinged for sitting at one end of the sofa in my lounge while my neighbour sorts out his garage without seeing each other at all

The timings of the app are also dubioud as you can't cuhck out.

My experience of the app has been quite positive. I was told to isolate after being near some friends in the pub who were later tested positive.
The app showed quite clearly when the incident took place.

My experience of Test and Trace has been far from positive. Whilst isolating for the app request above, I was emailed saying I had to isolate due to having been in contact with a positive case. This was a separate instance which allegedly took place whilst I had been home alone for 3 days, mid isolation.
The issue is that the email said I needed to create an account, but when I got to the end of the questions I saw that the mobile number (that couldn't be changed) was not mine.
I called 119 to ask for advice and they said I had to isolate regardless. They also said they couldn't change the mobile number.
I called the number on my account and it was someone who had tested positive and was mid-isolation as well..

I was given a disputes email address by 119, which I wrote to 8 days ago and chased again today. I'm not holding my breath..

Well you're basically forced to use it if you wish to eat out anywhere/shop, so that's the other function.

Turning off tracing stops you having to isolate just because you happened to go into Primark at the same time as someone else who then tests positive.

I use mine purely to check into places.
