So it has happened. Both DH and I have been sent an app notification to self-isolate. Fairly sure it was moblie phone contact rather than human. Serves us right for going shopping. At least the DC weren't with us so they can still go to school. I've had two jabs (trial) DH only one so hope we don't get it. Bored already!

I have the app, but contract tracing turned off. Load of rubbish.

JustDanceAddict · 23/06/2021 18:29

I’ve abided by all the rules but I deleted contact tracing ages ago.

WilsonMilson · 23/06/2021 18:30

Just ignore it, it’s a load of old shite. Track and trace are different, but the app is so inaccurate it’s a joke.

BoomChicka · 23/06/2021 18:34

I just wonder when this isolation model will end...surely we can't do this for ever!!

Confused you don't have to do it now, you're literally choosing too.

Willing to bet my hat you both get full sick pay and not SSP.. I'm tempted to download this app myself, 10 days off would be nice.

BoomChicka · 23/06/2021 18:36

@trevthecat

You turned your Bluetooth on to send photos?!

Misses point of thread entirely

Yup.. how very 2007.
Cripesitsthegasman19 · 23/06/2021 18:41

Reading through this, what is the point of the app then? I haven't got it, download it so I can check into places then uninstall it straightaway

thefemaleJoshLyman · 23/06/2021 18:41

@BoomChicka

We are both working from home now, yes, so we’re not getting 10 days off. DH has worked much longer hours working from home than ever in the office, so I find your comment a bit rude. I work in education, so do have good terms and conditions but DH doesn’t and has worked through lots of lockdown on a reduced salary.

And yes we probably have made a choice but imagine I did catch it, I went into a child’s school, passed it on and then bubbles burst, that would be immoral.

@Ontopofthesunset

Does anyone know anyone who actually contracted Covid after being pinged by the app? I don't mean contacted by phone Test and Trace, but just the random, no idea who the contact was, ping. I know loads of people (many of my sons' friends, many of my friends' teenage/adult children) who have been asked to isolate by the app and not one has developed symptoms. I wonder how the data is being collected on this.
I do, an employees son. It then spread to two other people in the house. The son had a sore head for a couple of days, nothing more, the mum had a 'heavy cold' for 4 days but the other two in the household didn't get it.
NanFlanders · 23/06/2021 19:05

Actually the app has been pretty effective: www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03606-z

BoomChicka · 23/06/2021 19:07

I don't think I was rude, I just find it odd that you've grabbed a chance to isolate voluntarily with both hands, and then come onto MN to do a sad face post lamenting 'when will this end?'. But hey ho.

amylou8 · 23/06/2021 19:12

DS works for the Council in an office that over looks a train platform. They were getting pinged all over the show and got told to delete it. Of course if you fancy 10 days off work go for it 😁

supercatlady · 23/06/2021 19:13

Isn’t the whole household meant to isolate?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/06/2021 19:13

@supercatlady no 😂

thefemaleJoshLyman · 23/06/2021 19:22

@BoomChicka The implication that we were looking for time off work is rude.

Willing to bet my hat you both get full sick pay and not SSP.. I'm tempted to download this app myself, 10 days off would be nice.

Not a polite thing to suggest, hence rude.

I just wonder when all isolation will end. If we meet someone who then is diagnosed with flu we don’t get a call/app ping. If my child has flu/cold they don’t take 10 days off school or cause their friends to take 10 days off - not sure this is sustainable, regardless of my current experience.

If it is any consolation @BoomChicka my boss called me a muppet for still having the app. But because work know, I can’t go in. My health and safety manager is super hot on things and would go into meltdown if we did ignore the app.

We have been super careful throughout the pandemic and followed all the ‘rules’ and although this isn’t a rule, morally both DH and I think we need to follow the guidance. For us it is a moral issue perhaps rather than legal.

BoomChicka · 23/06/2021 20:28

I don't think I'm wrong to suggest that if you were facing 2 weeks of £96 per week SSP, that app would be long gone. As it is, enjoy your 2 week WFH.

Ontopofthesunset · 23/06/2021 22:01

Thanks for the article from Nature - that's really interesting. I realise my own anecdotal experience isn't useful, really, and since the positive rate is only 6%, it's clear most isolations don't result in symptoms. But of course that is 6% of loads of people.

ARealTrip · 23/06/2021 22:05

@Bobholll

Oh & delete the app. I got pinged as a close contact in a cafe. When we were tracked & traced, turned out the family with a covid case left the cafe 10 minutes before we arrived 🤯🙄 safe to say we didn’t isolate!
You know covid hangs around in the air for 30mins to 3 hours right? So you we’re still contacts?

Quite shocked at all the people saying delete the app and wait for track and trace. You don’t know the person you stood in the post office queue with for 20mins so can’t tell track and trace that but the app will know via distance over Bluetooth. But if you’ve genuinely not left the house for 10 days and had no visitors then it might be wrong

Lakeshore6 · 23/06/2021 22:12

@trevthecat

You turned your Bluetooth on to send photos?!

Misses point of thread entirely

Not sure if this is why in the OPs case, but you need it on to airdrop with Apple devices
NeverForgetYourDreams · 23/06/2021 22:15

@Mathshelpme

Why on earth do people still have the app? Unless hoping for a ping…

Delete the app and pretend you never got a message. And while you’re at it, burn your masks; book a vacay and boycott the MSM. Time to move on.

Hear hear. Can't wait to burn these masks
Arrowheart · 23/06/2021 22:15

@Thewiseoneincognito

This ignoring the app business is why we still have cases rising. 🙄
So are you saying the app is the saviour for us all other than the shambles we are all seeing it for?
NeverForgetYourDreams · 23/06/2021 22:17

I haven't got the App

JellyBabiesFan · 23/06/2021 22:19

Ignore it OP, if these VIPs coming over the football do not have to quarrantine then thats the end of it for me.

Arrowheart · 23/06/2021 22:24

@JellyBabiesFan

Ignore it OP, if these VIPs coming over the football do not have to quarrantine then thats the end of it for me.
Totally agree with this. How anyone can adhere to the ridiculous rules now when we are being taken for fools is beyond me.
99victoria · 23/06/2021 22:32

@thefemaleJoshLyman
Why on earth are you planning to do daily LFTs if you are going to isolate anyway? That's just putting masses of unnecessary plastic waste into the environment?

thefemaleJoshLyman · 23/06/2021 22:56

Blimey. My little thread is much more hectic than I thought it would be.

I now feel like a work shy and entitled, destroyer of the environment! When actually I’m a workaholic, environmentalist. 😂 I’m only off work for 5 days anyway because the contact was Saturday, so don’t panic I’m not being lazy for too long. Nevermind, I’ll just get back to lurking in West Wing threads, not sure it is worth raising my head above the parapet again. Wait until you all find out we also got a lockdown puppy! 😜

I do think we all need to choose what we think is the right thing. I have never criticised anyone for saying they are ignoring the app or breaking the ‘rules’ but everyone is different.
