Been pinged :-(

So it has happened. Both DH and I have been sent an app notification to self-isolate. Fairly sure it was moblie phone contact rather than human. Serves us right for going shopping. At least the DC weren't with us so they can still go to school. I've had two jabs (trial) DH only one so hope we don't get it. Bored already!

DH got pinged on the app yesterday and we’ve had phone calls from test and trace this morning telling him he needs to isolate. He’s tested negative. Please don’t ignore notifications - my sister got notified and then tested positive at Christmas - she still has long covid now.

cocoloco987 · 23/06/2021 13:47

@BoringBettie that's the key difference though. The phone calls. My answer to you would be different.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/06/2021 13:50

Yes, I’d isolate IF I got contacted by Test and Trace. Not the useless app.

userxx · 23/06/2021 13:52

This ignoring the app business is why we still have cases rising

Pretty sure its not.

Heronsnest · 23/06/2021 13:58

When I telephoned NHS Test and Trace yesterday to notify them of a positive case in our workforce, I was told that notification by phone to isolate is mandatory, being pinged by the app is advisory and not enforceable. It's just not accurate enough.

Backtomyoldname · 23/06/2021 14:26

My DW was yesterday.

Said she’d been in a place that someone else had been in and that that person had later tested positive.

Didn’t say where, give times, anything.

Strange thing is that she has been to out v few places and not signed in as her app wasn’t working. ( clashed with Scottish version)

She tested herself - negative.

Given the reliability of test and trace, places she has been to, it’s more than likely that the infected person was in after her.

Perhaps Dido knows the answer?

@Ontopofthesunset

Does anyone know anyone who actually contracted Covid after being pinged by the app? I don't mean contacted by phone Test and Trace, but just the random, no idea who the contact was, ping. I know loads of people (many of my sons' friends, many of my friends' teenage/adult children) who have been asked to isolate by the app and not one has developed symptoms. I wonder how the data is being collected on this.
Got pinged from somewhere me and husband had been last Saturday. Husband then tested positive on Tuesday and me and kids caught it from him and tested positive on Friday. The app may be inaccurate a lot of the time but this time it was correct.
trevthecat · 23/06/2021 15:02

You turned your Bluetooth on to send photos?!

Misses point of thread entirely

Mathshelpme · 23/06/2021 15:54

Why on earth do people still have the app? Unless hoping for a ping…

Delete the app and pretend you never got a message. And while you’re at it, burn your masks; book a vacay and boycott the MSM. Time to move on.

Ontopofthesunset · 23/06/2021 15:59

I'm sorry about the positive results, but relieved to hear that the app is doing something, as my experience has made me a bit jaded about its usefulness.

Northernsoullover · 23/06/2021 17:11

I got pinged. There is no way I had enough contact with anyone for long enough on the day I was supposed to have been exposed. However I dutifully isolated and then deleted the sodding thing.

LightasaBreeze · 23/06/2021 17:11

I'm shocked people still have contact tracing switched on on the app, then moan they have been pinged, either delete the app or at least switch off tracing

Catfox1 · 23/06/2021 17:16

I keep forgetting to delete the app so thank you for the reminder. My dad got pinged to isolate for his neighbour testing positive. It’s not likely to travel through a bloody brick wall! Pleaded his case but they still told him to isolate 🙄

Bryonyshcmyony · 23/06/2021 17:18

I deleted it after two days. And I would ignore the message.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/06/2021 17:22

I think anyone who has the contact tracing turned on is mad.

Motorina · 23/06/2021 17:30

This.

I’m finding this whole thread sad a d depressing.

OP, thank you for being responsible.

RaspberryCoulis · 23/06/2021 17:32

Agree with what most other sensible people say, the app has been demonstrated to be worse than useless.

I certainly wouldn't abide by a ping from the app. If track and test or whatever get in touch fine, but not hte app.

Just delete it.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 23/06/2021 17:37

@trevthecat I know it sounds ridiculous! He wanted to send a photo of our new car to his brother and I'd taken the photos. He wanted me to Bluetooth them to him. As it turned out it wouldn't work, so we just used my chosen method WhatsApp!!! It is the nicest car we've ever bought - we are usually very sensible and this time have gone a bit posh!

Thanks for all the responses, we will isolate. I am going to do LF tests every day, I do them twice a week for work anyway.

I just wonder when this isolation model will end...surely we can't do this for ever!!

I'm amazed that anyone still has this app and is willingly allowing themselves to be so highly controlled by an inaccurate and useless bit of technology Hmm

Especially as the app has no bloody idea who you are anyway. Nobody is going to be knocking on your door because that thing decided to send a notification.
Beannag · 23/06/2021 17:48

The app doesn't have any personal details anyway, it's not the same as being contacted by test and trace or whatever its called, you aren't legally bound by it. At the most they have the number of the phone the app is downloaded on, delete it.

Beannag · 23/06/2021 17:49

Also you should be contacted by T&T if the dealership were managing customers correctly.

SpringRainbow · 23/06/2021 17:49

When I found out that you could get notified by the app if a neighbour who you haven’t even laid eyes on let alone been in contact with tests positive, that was the moment I deemed the app completely useless.

I don’t blame people for ignoring the app notifications.

PhilCornwall1 · 23/06/2021 17:49

They don't even have that.

HarrietOh · 23/06/2021 18:00

Turn off contract tracing on the app, it’s useless. I got told to isolate mid- February ish during the lockdown. I hadn’t been anywhere so could only assume it was a neighbour through a wall or something!
