Would you isolate as a contact and miss your holiday?

If you’re double vaxxed, have a uk holiday booked, and T&T call you up as a contact the day before you are due to leave?

It hasn’t happened to me, just wondering if we all need to keep our heads down for 10 days before we leave for our hols in august.

I suspect I’ll get a lot of yes’s. But in the real world, do you think many people would actually miss their holiday on the basis of a possible contact (or even a randomer!) testing positive?

Or maybe these isolation rules for fully vaxxed won’t even exist by august!

What is a holiday?

Holyfacemask · 21/06/2021 17:18

I’ve been told by the app to isolate after having contact with someone in public. I had drinks with friends in four different outdoor venues. I had to scan in to two of those despite sitting outside. I’m double jabbed and completely symptomless. I’ve told no one yet and seriously considering just deleting the app, taking daily LFT’s and going about my business.

TreaslakeandBack · 21/06/2021 17:21

Probably not. DH and I double jabbed and DD just had Covid.
If her bubble goes no we’ll go as the risk of her having it again so quickly really small.
I have contact tracing off on the app, DH is WFH and I wear PPE all day so don’t have to isolate if in contact at work.
Thank you for the tip not to answer unknown numbers! T&T start with 0300 BTW.

Lemons1571 · 21/06/2021 17:23

I dont have the app, so any request to isolate would only be via direct contact from T&T. No potential school isolation to worry about as holiday is in august.

*one of my other friends has the app and had the same message and my other friend with no app but at exactly the same level of risk as us has no app and therefore no requirement to isolate.

It’s absolutely crazy.

World beating….

takemetocedarpoint · 21/06/2021 17:27

Yes I would isolate. Utterly gobsmacked that some PPs have said they wouldn’t. It’s attitudes like that that’ll keep us in this mess for longer.

Having said all that I’d say it’s fairly likely that, as a double jabbed person, you would not have to isolate anyway in the future.

BirthdayCakeBelly · 21/06/2021 17:35

Yes I would because professionally I couldn’t risk being caught.
We had a UK based holiday over half term and did hardly anything the week before to try and minimise our risk of this happening.

BruceAndNosh · 21/06/2021 17:38

No, I'd identify as a footballer, as being a contact doesn't apply to them apparently

BirthdayCakeBelly · 21/06/2021 17:40

@cocoloco987 in those circumstances I’d be tempted to call my DC in sick for that one day with something vague like a headache to avoid the risk. Ridiculous to expect them to return and then risk exposure for the final day.

TreaslakeandBack · 21/06/2021 17:42

I read it that cocoloco was the teacher. I guess she could call in with symptoms that turn out to be negative 😂

Sometimesfraught82 · 21/06/2021 17:44

I wouldn’t give it one nano seconds thought.

I would go on holiday without a backward glance

Mascarponeandwine · 21/06/2021 17:45

Is it illegal to block the T&T number? Would that just count as having your phone turned off?

Onceuponatime1818 · 21/06/2021 17:48

We were careful with what we did the week before, so still had nursery and work but avoided eating out inside, friends houses and gym classes.

Kentuki · 21/06/2021 17:50

Depends on the circumstances - if T and T actually got hold of husband or I then I think we would stay at home. DHs job is a law abiding one and I think he would insist, or be worried about losing his job.

If it were the kids I am not sure. I think we could get away with that more easily. Would have to weight it up at the time.

I am absolutely not going to answer my phone to any unknown numbers from now on though.

christyt114 · 21/06/2021 17:50

Delete your app and don't answer your phone. Go on holiday and enjoy yourself.

BirthdayCakeBelly · 21/06/2021 17:51

@TreaslakeandBack Doh! Oh yes!

Do you know what's the T&T number is? I assumed it would be witheld....

It's not dc isolating, it's me - I work in a school so have to go in unfortunately

KeepingTrack · 21/06/2021 17:57

Well I would say I have some symptoms and need to be checked over with a PCR test. And oh... that test was negative. What a shame...

CrimsonImp · 21/06/2021 17:59

Where do track and trace get your phone number from? Always wondered that

yeahdarling · 21/06/2021 17:59

As a teacher this is a major worry for me. I've missed three holidays due to isolation since March last year :-(

TheMotherlode · 21/06/2021 18:05

If it was a random notification via the app then I probably wouldn’t isolate no. I’d do daily LFTs though.
If I knew that I had been contact with someone who had tested positive, and knew it was more than a passing contact, then I would isolate yes.

Flaunch · 21/06/2021 18:05

Absolutely not.

You give it to pub/resto etc when asked for it.
Honey12346 · 21/06/2021 18:05

Lol no.
