Why aren’t more of the Scotland football team self isolating since one of their players has tested positive?

Also, why aren’t the members of the England team he came into contact with plus coaches and support stuff etc?

It really does feel like the rules are only applied to us normal folk

Gary Linneker is tweeting that he can’t understand why footballers need to isolate if they’re testing negative just because they’ve been in close contact with the Scottish footballer.! Ffs. Why does he think that’s ok. Everyone else has to bloody isolate regardless of test results.

Clickbait · 21/06/2021 21:31

I'm not on Twitter but I hope lots of people are pointing out to him that no one else is allowed to release themselves from isolation with a negative test??

sirfredfredgeorge · 21/06/2021 21:35

No they don't. Gove for example joined the trial
www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/02/england-to-pilot-daily-covid-tests-as-way-to-avoid-to-self-isolation
rather than isolate, there are various trials of non-isolation, given the situation of the football it would be a very appropriate time to do the same trial there, the individuals are all at very low risk of covid, very low risk of passing it to at risk people and are being regularly tested anyway.

Yellowmellow2 · 21/06/2021 21:35

It’s bloody irritating and unfair. It also shows a lack of understanding of the rules when people talk about the fact they’ve tested negative so don’t need to isolate. Rightly or wrong,y, those are the rules and it should be the same for everyone.

Some people are. Then getting replies from random people saying the difference is “your son may have to isolate when the class bubble bursts but the difference is he isn’t playing for Scotland so shut up”.

Others pointing out it shouldn’t be one rule for one, one for another.

Others adamant the Scottish players are testing negative via pcr so legally don’t need to isolate…..after Gove and his “trial” where he didn’t need to isolate I’ve no idea if they’re right or not. Obviously not the case for plebs like us but I wouldn’t be surprised if they invent a trial for this!

It’s kicking off a bit on the issue.

3asAbird · 21/06/2021 21:46

Wheres it kicking off BBC? So it should its outrageous.

RosieLemonade · 21/06/2021 22:02

Does anyone know if had symptoms or was it a routine test?

No, Gary Linneker’s Twitter account.

Different rules for famous people/celebs/rich people. They should all isolate. The manager is shown on TV almost licking the football player's ear and kissing him after the game. They are hugging, kissing, celebrating and stay at same hotel, associate, eat together, train together yet ONLY the positive guy and 2 English players who cuddled him after the match have to isolate.

Bugger off - it's pathetic that children are sent home to isolate missing education but football players can keep on playing! What does Sturgeon have to say to the double standards then!

The Scottish player tested POSTIVE for covid yet the team aren't told to isolate at all - wtaf is that all about then!
AliceLivesHere · 21/06/2021 22:28

@fortyfifty

My DD's school management team had tape measures out, sending random children home to house arrest quarantine for 10 days after 1 student tested positive. Footballers are in very close contact with one another - much closer than school pupils who spend one lesson together every few days. Seems it certainly is one rule for them and one rule for everyone else.
Yep - same at my son's school.

So fed up. I will no longer wear a mask and no longer socially distance - sod the virus. I no longer give a damn since the rich and famous don't bother.

The manager has said he is a
AliceLivesHere · 21/06/2021 22:32

@ZoBo123

Not defending them but they are all regularly tested, the England team have no positive cases and neither has the rest of the Scotland team today. Also, though contentious, they are athletes and will not be badly affecting by Covid so a case matters less? It is time we started applying these rules to more situations though, eg not whole classes isolating when others could be tested
I'd quite happily test my son more often. The test is no big deal anyway, we have all got used to it now. Makes you gag a bit and sneeze but I'd take that for missing education.
Claymorekick · 21/06/2021 22:33

Try again...he is asymptomatic apparently.

This has really pushed me over the edge today - absolute hypocrisy Angry

And for full disclosure, I am a lifelong Chelsea and English fan so am a huge fan of the 3 players involved but am still fuming about it!

Claymorekick · 21/06/2021 22:35

Also, my DS was telling us on Friday night during the match about what close friends the 3 of them are 🤦‍♀️if only we knew then just how relevant that piece of information was going to be Hmm

yeahdarling · 21/06/2021 22:36

@Baileysforchristmas

Didn’t you know it’s only children that have to self isolate time and again
And school staff
BirthdayCakeBelly · 21/06/2021 22:43

Agree.
There’s a thread on here about a single parent who can’t get any of her children to school because one has to isolate and school are happy for them all to stay at home for 10 days despite no one in the household having covid. This has happened to her several times.
It’s bloody ridiculous.

BirthdayCakeBelly · 21/06/2021 22:49

*The Scottish FA (SFA) says PHE deemed that none of the other Scotland players had to self-isolate as there had been no close contact.

From bbc news.

Total bollocks.

poshme · 21/06/2021 22:55

Schools are also part of the trials for not self isolating with close contacts- but testing instead.

My DC school is in the trial. They are working on it.

But yes- the Scottish team should all be close contacts. But it's football so they get to do what they want.

sempiternal · 21/06/2021 22:57

Different rules for different people.

Far too much of an inconvenience and financial loss for them all to isolate.

Bollocks to it all.

The Scottish FA are complete liars or blind as bats then since numerous photos taken of very close contact (practically snogging each other)
Slub · 21/06/2021 23:22

Anyone of us plebs still following the roolz after the last couple of weeks (G7, Ascot, Scots descending on London to party) needs a fucking lobotomy Angry

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 21/06/2021 23:36

I just assumed like many or most - they simply ignore the pandemic and don’t care about rules nor indeed their own potential health and safety let alone anyone else.

All these mass multiple household gatherings are not compatible with science so they just ignore and hope for the best. I am astonished that they even rigorously test. That is the participants and all the huge crowds that follow then in person and fly around Internationally to follow these events.

You would have thought close contact sports would not be most compliant with pandemic science! Cornwall G7, Euro 2020/1, Wimbledon or Tokyo Olympics variants anyone!?

LouScot · 22/06/2021 00:24

Not saying I believe that there have been no close contacts in the Scottish team, but people do realise that as he tested positive in England its Public Health England who decide on the close contacts, and not anyone from the Scotland camp, yes?? (I'll get my coat...)
