Told today that vaccine passports will be a thing...

Sorry if this is old news, I’m trying to avoid watching the news and deleted notifications for the news app.

Had my first jab today and the gentleman told me vaccine passports are definitely going to be thing, encouraged me to download the app which (on his) showed the QR code he told me that pubs etc will be asking for.

Was anyone else told this when having theirs?

No but it’s pretty obvious it’s going to be useful for travel. I think they’ve ruled out much use in this country for pubs etc. I’m happy to have vaccines so doesn’t bother me

Absolute Tommy rot, large events and overseas travel yes, nothing else, NHS app is all you need.

I'm pretty much expecting that when we do finally open that those who have been jabbed (or are unable to be) will get more freedoms than than those that refuse. I think that it's one of the reasons for the extention, so that everyone over 18 has had the chance to be jabbed if they want and so there's no shouting about how unfair it is that an 18yo is still restricted when a 40 gets more freedom.

There are already rumbles about isolation as a close contact being stopped if double jabbed.....

Here in Germany we have a yellow booklet, about passport size that all vaccinations are recorded in.

I had my first a few weeks ago & it was recorded in my vaccination booklet.

My husband had his first yesterday & as well as it being in his booklet was given (without asking) a certificate with a QR code.

Presumably that's just another way of recording it?

But as to your question, I presume that a private business (pubs, airlines?) can request proof of vaccination, the same as proof of a negative test can be asked for?

So I would imagine that they could be a thing in some circumstances.

Whether of not they ever become an official thing is another matter.

I had my second one today and wasn't told anything like that. (Mind how I was in such a state they probably just wanted to make sure I didn't faint!)

It's true that there's a digital vaccine certificate on the app, and it's true that they're trialling using it. You may need it to travel overseas. That's all.

Yes. My sister-works for a large gov department. They were all encouraged to download the NHS app that shows proof of vaccination.

It isn't a passport - it's just proof that you've been vaccinated against Covid during a pandemic.

Are you planning to travel to a different country in the near future op?

Huh? It's extremely biased - the clue is in the unevidenced and strongly worded claim made early on:

The stated purpose for the vaccine passport is to make it an integral part of “unlocking” society – but that comes with serious surveillance and discrimination concerns.

Many will agree with this point of view, but something being a popular opinion doesn't mean it isn't biased!

This theme continues - the extremely emotive and again unexplained line "which could see our tickets for international travel converted into something more sinister and concerning" stood out.

The fact is that such documents do not need to be either discriminatory as test results etc can be used in lieu of vaccination status. Nor does it need to breach someone's privacy - certainly no further than we are already comfortable with in society. At the end of the day it's going to be a barcode on an app that simply returns YES or NO to the asking business.

But they won't be implemented - certainly not for a long time yet. The technical issues would be massive - and let's face it, when it comes to technical projects, the government are always crap.

This is just someones opinion though, like on Mumsnet, they haven't got special inside knowledge, they are mainly volunteers, its like someone on here saying that.

They will likely be used for travel abroad and large events but that is just my opinion, I haven't got special kowledge either.

I was shown the app when I had my second one, its just in the general spiel they give about it, obviously some may embellish a bit more and some won't. Do you believe everything that people tell you OP

I’m going to a test event I have to show proof of double vaccination /or test results along with photo ID. I also think it is coming for certain events. Though I’m also a vaccinator and we haven’t been told a thing about vaccine passports only that your record is on the nhs app

Lots of countries are likely to make/ are already making proof of vaccine a condition of entry. I don't blame them and the UK has no right to tell them they can't do it. We have had very strict rules about covid testing and quarantining in place for the last year, proof of vaccination is the logical next step.

You have to scan a picture of your passport, you then have to do a short video saying four numbers to verify who you are. It is a bit big brother watching you, I think it will be used for most venues and travel by next year. What if you haven’t got a Passport or driving licence to prove who you are? Has anyone had problems accessing it?

I didn't have to do any of that. Just a quick sign up with my DOB and NHS number. Took less than 5 minutes. I already have online access to my GP record though. Maybe that makes a difference. All it shows is my ID and the details of my Covid vaccination. Nothing else.

Interesting.
Of course there's going to be a 'vaccine passport'. It's all about the digital ID they are bringing in, and getting people to input the above surely shows it is already here and will be rolled out at some point.
