Sorry if this is old news, I’m trying to avoid watching the news and deleted notifications for the news app.

Had my first jab today and the gentleman told me vaccine passports are definitely going to be thing, encouraged me to download the app which (on his) showed the QR code he told me that pubs etc will be asking for.

Was anyone else told this when having theirs?

I had to upload my passport details and do the video of 4 numbers for the NHS app, I do not have online access to my GP surgery as I haven't visited the GP for years so I guess that was why, it took about 3 days after sending the details to get access so don't expect anything immediately.

motogogo · 27/06/2021 08:08

They are for international travel. The nhs app is useful anyway - repeat prescriptions, I can make appointments even.

Frazzled2207 · 27/06/2021 08:13

@AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying

How do we download the app? I only have a silly piece of card which I will defo lose at some point as proof 🤷🏻‍♀️
Nhs app on AppStore. NOT the covid app. The app is useful for repeat prescriptions etc

I thought it was fairly obvious we will need it to travel abroad and probably for large scale events. For entry to the pub etc has been ruled out for now

porridgecake · 27/06/2021 08:14

Ah, so I will need another app in due course. I am supposed to be travelling for work in August. Still, anything could happen.

Fluffyunicorn1 · 27/06/2021 08:18

I think they will probably require it to travel abroad. This isn’t an issue really though there are certain countries you have to have certain vaccines to travel to anyway.

I don’t think they will require it to go to your local pub though

That’s odd I got mine up and running in about 30 seconds
GalacticDragonfly · 27/06/2021 08:29

About half a dozen of my family members have had to set up the app to demonstrate vaccine status for test events, but only one has had to make the video reading out a number. It’s usually very quick and easy.

Baileysforchristmas · 27/06/2021 08:37

What happens if you don’t have the correct ID, not everyone has a passport and driving license?

LightasaBreeze · 27/06/2021 08:48

You have to go through your GP and they will give you registration details to access this.
tangone · 27/06/2021 08:51

I just used my NHS number to register.

Baileysforchristmas · 27/06/2021 08:55

I used my nhs number and regularly use my doctors I still had to upload my passport?

LightasaBreeze · 27/06/2021 08:57

I think for most it is quite quick and you don't need the id, which I'm sure correlates with how much details your GP already has and whether you already use the online services. Many seem to only need NHS no. and DoB.

BruceAndNosh · 27/06/2021 08:58

You can also ring 119.and ask for a paper copy to be sent to you but 8 guess you need the online version if you need to share it for example booking travel

tangone · 27/06/2021 09:00

I definitely just used my NHS number and it seemed to find me. It’s strange that people have such different experiences with it.

Ramekin · 27/06/2021 09:05

My phone doesn't support the app, so I'd rather have a physical document - or have the data recorded on my actual passport. We have biometric passports, surely that data can be added?

What are they likely to do about people who can't use a phone/ app due to say, disability?

It seems a bit much to expect people to shell out for an expensive smart phone that they can't even use, just because government can't come up with an inclusive way of recording it.

LadyPene · 27/06/2021 09:10

Two local businesses near me, in the recreational sector are already insisting on only allowing double vaccinated people in. They are not allowing testing as an alternative for those too young to be able to be double vaccinated yet. I wrote to my MP about it, they replied with information about the trials that are going on at present in this area.

Lostinacloud · 27/06/2021 09:12

I honestly don’t know how this sort of system can last or work long term. When a country as large as the USA aren’t issuing them, how does that work for travel? So to enter France, for example, a British person needs to show their status on an app but an American can’t show anything more than their small vaccination card?
I personally hope this means the whole concept can be dropped because the withdrawal of a person’s right to travel or socialise because they choose not to have a vaccine is fundamentally wrong.

DeathMetalMum · 27/06/2021 09:12

NHS app only works for those in England though. I live in England and was vaccinated in Wales (work in healthcare in Wales) but the app has no record if my vaccination at all. A number of my colleagues are in similar positions.

ApplesinmyPocket · 27/06/2021 09:46

I just downloaded the app after reading this topic this morning - I DO have online access to my surgery for prescrips, appointments etc, but after DOB and NHS number, I WAS asked for ID and then the video step. Now I've got to wait 'up to 24 hours' to see if my verifications were acceptable. I didn't love it, to be honest.
Baileysforchristmas · 27/06/2021 09:50

I think it’s changed recently, it now asks for more id

LightasaBreeze · 27/06/2021 09:52

I did mine about a month or two ago, wait time was up to a week then, it's not very consistent at all

BruceAndNosh · 27/06/2021 10:00

I did mine using the app a few weeks ago.
DH downloaded app and did his last week, and his now shows a QR code for his unique details which mine doesn't.
(we both had previously set up online access to GP records just for this eventuality of needing proof of vaccine status)
If I want the same type of QR code I guess I need to update the app, but will it ask for additional ID? Neither of us had to do the video thing

worktrip · 27/06/2021 10:05

You can do this already through the app. You need to provide proof of identity. Not done it yet so I don't know the full details.

hannahbanana2007 · 27/06/2021 10:47

As a PP said, the app is only applicable to people in England. Does anyone know if there is a plan to either expand it to include the rest of the UK or if other apps will be set up?

BunsyGirl · 27/06/2021 11:01

We are travelling to Malta in August and they require everyone age 12 and above to be vaccinated. That’s fine for us (this year) as our oldest DC is 11 but will cause problems for other British families given that we are only vaccinating 18+ at the moment.
