An NHS hospital that upgraded the type of face masks used by staff on Covid-19 wards recorded a dramatic fall of up to 100% in hospital-acquired coronavirus infections among those workers, research shows.

Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge upgraded the masks from fluid-resistant surgical masks (FRSMs) to filtering face piece 3 (FFP3) respirators, with the change made in late December.

Heresy!!! Hospital admissions data is here though slight delays, It's started dropping in the last few days with reductions driven by NW. You can screenshot for your proof. I would look it up, but I got distracted by this. Look.how crazily low care home cases are despite the tens of thousands of new cases per day. It's really great to see.

Great to see that masks work - this is actual, real good news!

Nanny I don't think anyone here is denying that FFP3 face masks worn properly do work. Whether the same can be said for the grubby fabric ones secondary school kids wear on their chins and keep in their school bags for a half term at a time is another matter.

Hopefully this might inform policy that dictates what PPE medical professionals are given, so it's definitely good news.

I agree. We all get 'fit tested' for masks. FFP3 does not fit all face shapes, the people who don't have a good seal no longer work with covid + patients (obviously easier now as less people in hospital).

It's really good news that this is evidenced and will help protect people.

Another example of why journalists (ie those that write for the mail) should not attempt to interpret statistics and reduce them to catchy headlines!

Just seen on Twitter Someone sharing some news from the sun that those double jabbed won’t have to self isolate if in contact with a positive from the 19th-07. Hope that’s true !! And hope children don’t have to neither (my son goes to private nursery and dreading these weeks to our holiday )
