Anyone else not going to test children anymore

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 19:20

My daughter is 15, she said none of her friends are testing anymore. Why should I make her test twice a week now? All it will do is stop her going to school and us getting on with our lives, it will also stop her bubble going to school and she will get blamed. My daughter didn’t go to school for 3 months while flights were coming into the country from other parts of the world which could do as they please. Why should I take the risk of putting my daughter’s life on hold, also the more we test the more the numbers go up, Europe’s not testing secondary school children twice a week so obviously their numbers won’t be showing as high.

@BeingATwatItsABingThing - don't do a lateral flow if your child has symptoms, it won't work. Do a PCR.

0None0 · 15/06/2021 21:31
**@Chessie678* I agree my daughter is healthy, why keep testing all the time, shoving something up your nose and down your throat twice a week which makes you gag. How many adults test twice a week? Do teachers test regularly? Do you @0None0*?
Obviously. In my department we all test 3-4 times a week. Secondary teachers interact with all age group bubbles. Testing is just basic common sense and human decency.

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 21:37

Well if there are any cases in the school teachers will pick it up. My daughter won’t be testing, I think she’s immune anyway, she has had so many of her friends have had it last year, she never tested positive and no one in our family have had it. Now we are all vaccinated accept my daughter we’re even less likely to get it.

Do you know what I don’t understand at all, it’s how LFT’s are sensitive enough to pick up positives with zero symptoms but then not sensitive if you actually have symptoms 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Seriously, people actually believe this???

Yes this has also puzzled me Confused
Oysterbabe · 15/06/2021 21:41

LFTs belong in the bin. I'm not testing mine.

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 21:42

@Julia9299 I agree there are so many things that don’t make sense, so many silly rules, that certain people don’t have to stick to but the rest of us do. I do believe in Covid and I have stuck to the rules but now testing healthy children twice a week seems ridiculous

toocold54 · 15/06/2021 21:43

If people stopped testing we wouldn't have rising number it's no brain surgery
If you are healthy why do you feel the need to test?! And don't tell me because you can be asymptotic

You can’t stick your head in the sand and hope it just goes away!

There should only be a small amount of people who are positive, if those people isolate for a few days then the rest of us can get on with our lives as normal.
If people don’t test and isolate if they need to the numbers will just keep increasing and lockdowns will just keep getting extended.

As I said to @0None0, I haven’t used a LFT to test my DD for symptoms of covid. She’s not actually displayed any symptoms at any point. If she does at any point, I will test her with a PCR test. I know that’s what you do and I didn’t say I would use a LFT in my first post.

Well can you tell me why, despite all the testing people are doing, why we are still in lockdown? Why the restrictions haven't been lifted? You honestly think this will go away if we continue testing?
Oysterbabe · 15/06/2021 21:50

LFTs do pick up cases where people have symptoms but they are so unreliable that they don't want symptomatic people to rely on them and risk spreading the virus. The government are prepared to accept their shitness for asymptomatic testing, because you are less likely to have it anyway, but don't want to take the risk where there are symptoms.

ineedaholidaynow · 15/06/2021 21:50

Interesting how some countries have been able to open up on the basis that people test regularly.

Yet again in this country we have people who can’t be bothered, do their own personal risk assessment regardless of the fact that they could be spreading the virus. The tests are not that difficult for the average person. I have one of the worst gag reflexes (absolute embarrassment at the dentist) but I can manage to do them. Do have to make sure DH is not on a video call at the time as the sound of me gagging can be heard all over the house!

Piggywaspushed · 15/06/2021 21:51

What exactly do you mean??

I think you’ll find that even ignoring the tests, the high number of very ill teenagers we’ve got in our school might sort of given the game away….

You are being ridiculous. If you don’t test, number rapidly go up

I think she means she thinks teachers should be acting as canary ConfusedHmm
epcot15 · 15/06/2021 21:59

@Watapalava

Never tested my kids and never will.
Same here.
Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 22:05

My daughter won’t be testing anymore. Out of the 2000 children in my daughters school not one child has been seriously ill with Covid. I mean if teachers are testing regularly cases can be picked up. Why does the rest of Europe not test secondary school children twice a week, why is it only the UK?

OP posts:

It’s common sense that the more the numbers rise the more the lockdowns will be enforced.
The government looks at the figures and then decides rightly or wrongly that because the numbers are too high/increasing that the restrictions shouldn’t be lifted.
So the only way those numbers will stay low and lockdowns can be lifted is to do stricter testing so that cases can be isolated and the rest of us don’t need to have any restrictions. Not by sticking your head in the sand until the numbers are so high that we’re all back to the first lockdown when nothing was open and you could barely go outside.

earthyfire · 15/06/2021 22:12

I had to stop testing my son a couple of weeks ago as he was having daily nose bleeds and sinus infections which he has never suffered from before.

Bookworm65 · 15/06/2021 22:12

I can't believe how selfish and irresponsible you, and many other posters, are being. I teach in a primary school and we've had two bubbles close in the last week. Some of my colleagues are not vaccinated yet. A test takes seconds to do and it's so important.

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 22:12

So why aren’t the rest of Europe testing secondary school children twice a week? Their numbers are coming down, they can travel round Europe but they are not testing as much as the UK, India’s numbers were low so we didn’t stop travel but they weren’t testing as much as we were. It makes a mockery of the whole thing.

It's common sense that the more you test the more false positives you get and healthy people are being isolated for no reason and also the numbers go up unnecessarily. I mean it's common sense really 🤷🏻‍♀️
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/06/2021 22:19

Their numbers are coming down

Because they haven't got the Delta variant in the same way we have. France is 2 weeks behind us on the exponential increase in cases for example.

People on this thread are being deliberately obtuse, it's the only possible reason for saying some of the stuff that's being said.

Barbie222 · 15/06/2021 22:19

You sound lovely OP Hmm

Temp023 · 15/06/2021 22:19

Well if anyone wants to test their DC my daughter has 23 tests stock piled in her room. She has tested twice.
