Anyone else not going to test children anymore

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 19:20

My daughter is 15, she said none of her friends are testing anymore. Why should I make her test twice a week now? All it will do is stop her going to school and us getting on with our lives, it will also stop her bubble going to school and she will get blamed. My daughter didn’t go to school for 3 months while flights were coming into the country from other parts of the world which could do as they please. Why should I take the risk of putting my daughter’s life on hold, also the more we test the more the numbers go up, Europe’s not testing secondary school children twice a week so obviously their numbers won’t be showing as high.

My two year old covers his nostrils and gets distressed when he sees a cotton bud now. So fed up of it. I’ve taken him to have a PCR test so many times he cries when we pull into the car park.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/06/2021 22:20

It's common sense that the more you test the more false positives you get and healthy people are being isolated for no reason and also the numbers go up unnecessarily.

I'm going to assume sarcasm. I hope.

False positive gets discovered on a PCR that is returned within 24 hours. Being isolated for 24 hours is an acceptable cost.

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 22:21

@imforourfreedomback I agree, I’m not taking the risk to being locked up for 10 days under false pretences and not only me or my family but everyone I have been in contact with. Sod that, I’m well and truly done with it all now.

Regards the OP title though: Anyone else not going to test children anymore

That's fine. Don't. But also don't moan when school or nursery bubbles close, and if your child is symptomatic in any way at all, keep them home for 2 weeks. Or again, don't moan if they are sent home.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/06/2021 22:22

locked up for 10 days under false pretences and not only me or my family but everyone I have been in contact with

That's not how it happens though, is it. You're being deliberately ridiculous.

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 22:23

I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s had enough of it.

I've read some bollocks on Mumsnet over the years but this thread seems to have attracted every single idiotic arsehole on the whole site. I hope you're not going to send your potentially infectious children to school if you're not testing them.

Piggywaspushed · 15/06/2021 22:29

Oh but it's all fine because teachers.

toocold54 · 15/06/2021 22:29

locked up for 10 days under false pretences and not only me or my family but everyone I have been in contact with

What’s the point in coming on here and sayings things that are completely false!

Testing is non-compulsory so if you/your child finds it really distressing then don’t do it.
But if your reasons are because you want the restrictions eased then not doing the tests is completely counter productive and those who are fed up with the restrictions should be the ones encouraging people to test the most.

imforourfreedomback · 15/06/2021 22:34

@Baileysforchristmas

I've so had enough of it now. So many people I know have had enough too.
Shieldingending · 15/06/2021 22:36

@Watapalava

if unwell i'll keep them off like i do for cold and flu but i wont be testing and isolating. Vulnerable are vaccinated. Anyone left has minimal risk or has denied vaccine.
Please understand that some vulnerable people have not derived any benefit from the vaccine. My dad has blood cancer and tests have shown that most people with his condition do not produce antibodies Sad
ineedaholidaynow · 15/06/2021 22:37

Why are people being locked up under false pretences?

WaverleyPirate · 15/06/2021 22:41

Totally selfish. I can see why it's still spreading.

QueeniesCroft · 15/06/2021 22:43

My 13 year old let me do one test and refuses to have another. He is 6 inches taller than me and very fast. I suppose I could rugby-tackle him and sit on him until he submits, but I'd probably break the stick thingy!

In our county there are very, very few cases (maybe 3 or 4 in the last month and none on our island) and it seems excessively harsh for me to insist or discipline him for refusing (especially given how much we have emphasized that nobody gets to do anything medical or physical to him without his consent). His older brother asked me to test him, but also won't repeat it unless he has symptoms.

Rockbird · 15/06/2021 22:54

Six local schools in the last two days have had year groups shut down including two from DD1's (secondary) school. Good job those people were testing.

Madhairday · 15/06/2021 23:12

@Baileysforchristmas

I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s had enough of it.
Ah well, as soon as covid hears that some people on the internet have Had Enough I'm sure it'll pop off and leave us alone.

Oh wait...

ineedaholidaynow · 15/06/2021 23:12

@QueeniesCroft is there a reason they can't test themselves? DS(16) showed me how to do my first test, as he was used to doing them for school

Maybeetomorrow · 15/06/2021 23:18

Italy have been testing schoolchildren since September. They also have more measures in place.
Tubbs99 · 15/06/2021 23:20

Think the last time anyone in this house tested was in April.

ToooOldForThis · 15/06/2021 23:21

OP I sincerely hope your kid doesn't go to my school, what a selfish attitude.
We've had one colleague lose her husband, early 30s, another will never work again, heart issues.
If your child passes it to an unvaccinated member of staff, that's what could potentially happen. If they were to test positive, then stay at home, things like that could potentially be avoided. Many school staff are still too young to have been vaccinated.
But obviously you don't give a crap about them.
Teen dd and I test twice a week, it takes less than 2 minutes each time.

everybodysang · 15/06/2021 23:25

More selfish babies who can't seem to understand the very simplest of principles even when it's explained over and over and over.

All I hear is waaah waaaah it's inconvenient to me so fuck the rest of you.

My friend's sister died of Covid just over a week ago. 41. You absolute selfish, childish, fuckers.

twelly · 15/06/2021 23:27

I can't see the point of the testing at home, if there had been a zero tolerance of Covid in the U.K. as in Asia I would support that approach but with borders open it is utterly pointless . I think it's designed to give reassurance rather than anything else

ToooOldForThis · 15/06/2021 23:31

Twelly can you not see that in the case of eg, school staff, it would be better to know sooner rather than later that someone was positive? To stop it spreading? It seems remarkably basic to me

AlwaysLatte · 15/06/2021 23:35

My son's school are still sending tests home. He does them Tues and Fridays as it's easy to remember.

m0therofdragons · 15/06/2021 23:37

I stopped for a bit but I’ve started up again as cases are going up locally, colleagues have tested positive and we have cases in the hospital (I work in the nhs). Dd1 is 13 and tests (as do all her immediate friends). I’ve been testing since November and only stopped last month after a faulty batch. The anecdotal evidence from my work place is we’ve seen a few false negatives but every positive has been confirmed by a pcr test so the accuracy in our hospital is surprisingly good.
