Terrified of vaccine. I keep cancelling it

Just that. I am so so terrified of the vaccine side effects!

I have posted under this name before regarding my extreme phobia of vomiting/sickness. I have had CBT twice, which hasn’t worked (clearly). Looking into hypnotherapy but it’s just out of my budget at the moment.

How many people have had nausea/vomiting after the vaccine? I would rather people be honest so I can prepare with anti sickness/ginger :( my appointment is now booked for Wednesday and I am determined not to cancel this one...

I know - I sound pathetic!

We had AZ and know people who had Pfizer and Moderna, heard of lots of side effects (mainly like flu/chills/temp, headache) but no nausea or sickness. I was nervous too and booked mine at one with a lido so could go swimming and distract myself.

Egghead68 · 13/06/2021 21:38

I don’t know anyone who’s vomited. Sore arms seem to be the most common problem.
Could you take an anti sickness pill after to put your mind at rest?

greenlynx · 13/06/2021 21:47

DH and I had AZ, we both had flu like effects tired, sleepy, achey, he also had mild fever ( 37.6) after the first. DD had Pfizer, she was a bit tired that’s all, and sore arm after the second. She went to school both times next day. And she’s actually prone to sickness because of anxiety.
I know quite a few people who’s got Pfizer (group 4 ) and all DD’s friends under 18 so they’ve got Pfizer as well. I specifically asked about possible side effects because of the school next day. None mentioned nausea, it was usually sore arm, tiredness, muscle aches, a few mentioned fever.

shuuush · 13/06/2021 21:55

Had first and second - Astra Zeneca and no side effects apart from sore arm.

claireymrsd · 13/06/2021 22:02

I'm an emetophobe too. I had Pfizer - no sickness or nausea after either jab.
Hth

GintyMcGinty · 13/06/2021 22:03

No side affects at after first.
Headache after second.

I don't know anyone that had nausea

CookPassBabtridge · 13/06/2021 22:19

No nausea and haven't heard of anyone experiencing it, all just had sore arms. You can do it!

Brabraboo · 13/06/2021 22:21

Moderna. I have hyperemesis (your worst nightmare I’m sure Sad) and brushing my teeth can be a serious struggle because EVERYTHING makes me sick.

Also mixed in with pretty sever health anxiety and a long long drive to the vaccine centre I was pretty sure I would at some point be sick.

Nothing. And no side effects. Just a sore arm for maybe a day/two days. DH had none either.

Brabraboo · 13/06/2021 22:22

Just to add, I haven’t heard of a single person who had sickness or nausea after any of the jabs. I’m not sure that’s a very common one. So is very unlikely!

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 13/06/2021 22:46

I had AZ and quite bad side effects but more of the flu-type symptoms - aches, fever, etc. No nausea or vomiting.

Attictroll · 14/06/2021 21:23

Headache only. I can get panicky wearing a mask ( long story to do with attack where face covered) and when I revealed this on check in as I was struggling trying to sort my mask on as a bit nervous they whisked me to a quiet area and did the jab quickly sat on a more comfortable chair. So maybe tell them. I do wear a mask mostly but vaccine nerves made me stumble putting it on

Glitterblue · 14/06/2021 22:13

Out of everyone I know who's had the vaccine - which is a lot of people - one has had vomiting after the 1st but not the second. I have a severe phobia too and was so scared but I had the vaccine and had no vomiting. I've had both vaccines now.

youwouldthink · 14/06/2021 22:16

I've had both doses of Pfizer. Sore arm and tired after first and nothing after second. No nausea at all

wherewildflowersgrow · 14/06/2021 22:20

AZ. After first dose, sore arm if lying on it and very tired the next day. Nothing after second dose. If it helps, I'm very prone to nausea and had hyperemesis in pregnancy, and plenty of travel sickness as a child. But not with the covid vaccine.

TruelyonelastSchlep · 14/06/2021 23:23

We know people that have had Pfizer or AZ.

I don't know anyone that has had nausea or vomiting as a side effect.

Most people have had a sore arm and/or a headache for 4 to 24 hours ish

I put off my first dose because I have a health condition. Waited until a few weeks until I was going through a stronger more stable period. All because I was worried about possible side effects on top of my condition. My sister had what felt like the worlds worst hangover for a day.

Anyway I needn't have bothered delaying. I had no side effects at all in the end. Could feel where the needle went in for about an hour maybe. However it was not sore or painful. My sister is gutted I got off so lightly Grin

You just can't predict how it will effect you. My advice would be. Either commit and just go for it. Else stop beating yourself up and don't have the jab. No point stressing about it. Just decide one way or another then get on with your life.

Purplesparkle34 · 14/06/2021 23:24

I had Pfizer and the only side effects I had were a sore arm and mild headache

TruelyonelastSchlep · 14/06/2021 23:26

Forgot to say. I previously had the whooping cough jab when pregnant. Which was making me stress more about the covid one. The whooping cough jab made me unable to use my arm properly for about 2 months. It really hurt to carry stuff or push a door open with that arm.

Helspopje · 14/06/2021 23:26

In realistic likelihood lockdown can’t go on forever

Perhaps the thing to ask yourself is why you are so worried about the vaccine (relative risk very low) vs the risk of Covid (relative risk appreciably higher)?

FizzyPink · 14/06/2021 23:29

We both had Pfizer and absolutely zero side effects apart from a slightly sore arm.

I understand your worry OP. I’m emetophobic as well and was worried about it but honestly it was fine. The one person I know who has had bad side effects is someone who is always looking for an excuse to not go to work so I’m not sure I believe they even did!

ineedaholidaynow · 14/06/2021 23:34

I have had both doses of AZ, both time sore arm and fatigue the following day. No nausea or vomiting. No nausea or vomiting among family members either from either Pfizer or AZ
