Support group post second dose of AZ vaccine

Bubalie · 11/06/2021 20:10

Ok, I thought it would be good to have a support group for those of us who have decided to have second AZ vaccine. I had mine yesterday, didn’t really want it, but everyone I know is so blaze about blood clots I feel like right hypochondriac. I suffer with anxiety and health anxiety was my big issue even before COVID and vaccines. I have only just started relaxing after I passed 4 weeks post my first vaccine and am now on watch for symptoms again! Don’t know how I’m going to get through the next few weeks. If you are like me please join and share your thoughts!

I had mine 3 weeks ago to this day.

I’ve actually felt more relaxed than I thought I would.

Because I could just concentrate on how I was feeling (which has been great throughout), instead of worry about numbers, reports, statistics…

I also made a note of the days on a paper calendar and I’ve been crossing it out each day. It helped me see how quickly days were going by.

Good luck!

Bubalie · 11/06/2021 20:22

@User657849 calendar is such a good idea. Thank you, I’m going to do that too just to keep my mind occupied. I hope I can relax a bit after these initial few days and start looking forward to things getting back to some sort of normality 😊

I had my second 3 weeks ago and didn’t have any reactions to both of them. It’s suddenly dawned on me this week that I’m fully vaccinated and can relax a little.

This week my 29 year old DS had his first Pfizer and I worried so much about him with side effects, but so far nothing. My other 25 year old DS is having his first next week. He had to have 3 days off school with a sore arm when he first had the flu vaccine, so will see how he gets on.

Kaylasmum49 · 12/06/2021 08:11

I had my 2nd one 8 days ago and feeling anxious and on high alert. I have severe health anxiety which doesn't help.

Bubalie · 12/06/2021 08:20

I’m just feeling so nauseous this time around. Reminds me of morning sickness. I am able to eat but just have that nauseous feeling lingering in the background! And I feel totally wiped out 😫 but it’s only my second day post second dose!

@Kaylasmum49 totally understand! Same here. Just think you are already on day 8, just one day at a time. I think @User657849 idea with the calendar is so great, I’m definitely going to do that!

Good idea op, I had mine on the Friday and had an awful night, little sleep, fluey, achy etc.
My arm hurts much more than than the first time and I believe it's 10 days in we need to be alert to clots.
The sad truth is, someone will get a clot and there is no reason for it not to be me.
It's an awful gauntlet to have to run.

Jabbinell · 12/06/2021 10:01

@Bubalie thank you SO much for this thread! I have major anxiety so this is invaluable.
I had my 2nd yesterday and am now wishing the next few weeks away.

Just a sore arm so far really and a bit tired. Though my leg was sore in a certain spot in the night, where I had previously put steroid cream. Weird or coincidence who knows.

Bubalie · 12/06/2021 10:08

Good there’s already a few of us in the same boat, will be good to go through this all together I guess. Compare notes and celebrate together after we pass whatever mark we pass to feel safe 🤣. (Although I REALLY REALLY hope they don’t come up with something else connected to AZ we have to look for in the long term that would finish me off!).
I just feel very tired and nauseous so far, arm aches just a tiny bit and nothing like last time.

I've had my second dose and haven't given it a thought since.

Not sure if that helps.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/06/2021 10:24

I had mine yesterday, it hasn’t crossed my mind to worry about clots tbh, the risk is so low. I haven’t been keeping on top of the data but I believe it’s 10% of what it was with the first dose which is not enough to stress over. I understand it’s harder if you have health anxiety though, hope the worry doesn’t cast too much of a shadow over the next few weeks for you x

I just feel very lucky to have it done and dusted, really feel for people who are still waiting.

Jabbinell · 12/06/2021 10:26

That’s great @Etulosba were you worried before you had it?
My anxiety is less now funnily enough as my dithering and endless research was stressful.

IloveSooty424 · 12/06/2021 10:31

I has mine on Wednesday. I had horrible side effects with the first dose but hardly anything with the second apart from tiredness but still able to function. I hadn’t give blood clots a second thought until yesterday when I had a sudden pressure pain in the side of my head. Also I was unusually grumpy with my 7 year old, shouting at him for no reason which is unlike me. Today I feel fine but will keep a watch off for any further head or changes in mood.

IloveSooty424 · 12/06/2021 10:32

*watch out

ICanSmellSummerComing · 12/06/2021 10:33

Well it was initially thought that the risk of clots from a second jab was low but as more people get the second jab the risk goes up

Unfortunately where I work I am also exposed to a high section of public from a wide area so the risk of delta is also extremely high especially as no one wears masks. Sad and we are in small spaces.

Etulosba · 12/06/2021 11:22

That’s great @Etulosba were you worried before you had it?

I'm not really a health worrier, but immediately before I had it, I did find myself weighing up the odds of anything going wrong.

I noticed that this time around, they were careful to explain the potential side effects and ask for my explicit consent bearing them in mind.

Chillychangchoo · 13/06/2021 09:43

Having my second AZ today (she 32) my anxiety is high about having it. I’m trying to enjoy the sunshine but can’t :(

How are you all?

Chillychangchoo · 13/06/2021 09:43

She ??

I mean myself 🤦‍♀️

takemetocedarpoint · 13/06/2021 09:54

I had my second dose on Friday. I’m usually a real worrier but to be honest, the thought of clots isn’t really on my mind. I’m just glad to be doubled jabbed in the current circumstances with Delta.

NDSandG · 13/06/2021 09:58

Both DH and I are having ours this evening at 5; 8 weeks after first dose. Neither of us had much in the way of side effects first time around and hoping we can sleep off any effects prior to work tomorrow.

stepmad · 13/06/2021 13:42

Dreading the second as the first I felt lousy for about a week later . Including three days totally washed out in bed . So I cleared the decks for last week just in case only to find that I was fine.

Chillychangchoo · 13/06/2021 13:54

It’s more the clot risk I worked myself up over. Didn’t have any other side effects.

There’s been 23 clots after second vaccines but all in over 50s.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/06/2021 14:23

I am 11 days post my second dose.
Still more wiped out than normal but gradually improving, i have been more unwell after this does, but have reacted badly to both.
I am hoping I will be less worried once two weeks have gone by as i read that cases drop then ?

BarberQueue · 13/06/2021 14:30

I had my second dose on Friday. I felt terrible for four days after my first but nothing but a sore arm with this one. I did start with a terrible right sided headache yesterday so felt a little worried. However I do seem to get a lot of headaches these last few months which I think is possibly due to perimenopause so reminded myself of that.

Funfortheroad · 13/06/2021 15:30

Hope you're all ok. I am not having a second dose as I'm in my mid-30s so not only would I not be offered a second AZ dose in most other countries but I'm not vulnerable to Covid. It's a tough decision though so I do feel for you all, and I hope you're as at peace with your decision as I am.
