Could you do the 10 day Hotel quarantine?

BoeJidensLeftShoe · 07/06/2021 18:29

Been waiting for a surgery for over a year now. Am sick of rescheduling.

Am thinking of just doing the quarentine when back but am worried about the mental health side ontop of the fact I will be dealing with big changes from surgery.

Do you have dc?
So you are planning on going abroad to a red country for potentially dangerous surgery (a lady local to me died during weight loss surgery) and then you want to stay in a small room alone without easy access to medical help for your post op care for 10 days away from your family again?
And yes, I would be asking the same if you were a man!

MareofBeasttown · 08/06/2021 20:02

My family is in a red list country, so I am prepared to do hotel quarantine if my elderly mom falls ill and I have to fly out and return. I could do it quite easily if I had to because I am not claustrophobic and would just read or do box sets. Not fussy about food. I am not sure about your situation after surgery though.

BoeJidensLeftShoe · 08/06/2021 20:03

Yes, I do have children.

And I've devoted 16 years to them. I've sacrificed my body and confidence to bring them into this world. I've gone a decade without a single girls holiday, weekend away, or even a night out in the last 4 years (mostly because of my weight).
It's risky to go anywhere, do anything. My friend died 2 years ago going to the Co op for a pack of cigs because a drunk driver hit her. Everything is a risk.

You know what is also a risk? Having a 40+ BMI with a family history of blood pressure issues and diabetes.

So I don't feel bad about making this decision for myself and my health/happiness at all, but how very sisterly of you to try and shame me into it.

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 08/06/2021 20:08

You aren’t my sister and the fact that we are both women does not mean I have to agree with or support you.
You have posted quite a few times about this here (I think, apologies if it wasn’t you) and if I am right you didn’t even know how to get on a plane!
I get that you want this surgery, there’s absolutely no judgement from me around that, it’s purely the travel at the moment to a red country (Egypt?) that seems a really bad idea

BoeJidensLeftShoe · 08/06/2021 20:14

Nope. Not me. I'm very well travelled and I am going to Turkey, sister :)

I fully support your decision to do it, best thing I ever did. I even risked going to abroad to do it. Feel free to PM me if you want to ask any questions. As I said up-thread, I went 8 weeks ago to Turkey.

In which case I apologise for mixing you up with someone else. Turkey may go Green/Amber by the Autumn, can you really not wait a bit longer?
BoeJidensLeftShoe · 08/06/2021 20:32

@WeeFae thankyou so much. I will

OP posts:
BoeJidensLeftShoe · 08/06/2021 20:34

I may have to wait, but I've rebooked it 3 times now and mentally it's really taking its toll. Its a big thing to build upto and prepare for and it be cancelled again and again.

It's probably the best thing to do really.

OP posts:
WeeFae · 08/06/2021 20:35

Are you going to Irmet?

HalzTangz · 08/06/2021 20:35

@BoeJidensLeftShoe

I will be given 10 days of injection bloodthinners and I would do exercises and 10k steps a day with my fitbit.
You'll find it hard to do 10000 stepson a hotel room
Moonflower12 · 08/06/2021 20:35

You wouldn't be without any medical treatment in the hotels. My DP is working as a paramedic in them. There is 24 hour medical cover.
He says the food varies from hotel to hotel. It's a bit dire in the one he's in at the moment but as you'll have your shakes you should be ok.

You only get 15 minutes a day for exercise when they take you down. So you would be doing your 10k steps in your own room probably.

Moonflower12 · 08/06/2021 20:40

Forgot to add that he's had a couple of people in the hotel recently that have been to Turkey for bariatric or other elective surgeries. He's just kept an eye on them and after 10 days they've gone on their way.

LIZS · 08/06/2021 20:46

And if you need medical care during that time or are emotionally affected? Surgery carries risks as does flying so soon afterwards. You cannot be sure of consistent standards in hospitals and hotels abroad. Those who have complications or are disappointed with the outcome are unlikely to post on a forum which positively advocates this procedure.

BoeJidensLeftShoe · 08/06/2021 20:50

Thankyou moonflower.

Actually Liz the few people that have had complications are avid posters and we supported them through their extended time in hospital and when they got home in the support group. Both of them say it was nothing to do with the hospitals or surgeons but preexisting medical conditions which would have happened with UK surgery too.
All surgery does carry risk and its upto us as individuals to assess if the risk is worth it. I feel it is.

OP posts:
WeeFae · 08/06/2021 21:00

I had some complications after the surgery abroad and I still fully advocate for it.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 08/06/2021 21:05

Have you heard of nord clinic in lithuania they are popular for weight loss surgery and then in the future if you wanted plastic surgery for loose skin.

I had surgery out there in march they are amazing. They have Facebook groups to where you can see others journeys. Lithuania is an amber country atm so no hotel quarantine.

BoeJidensLeftShoe · 08/06/2021 21:17

I've just looked them up Skye and unfortunately they are 2.5k more than Turkey which is 3k. It would take me a long time to save that much more.

OP posts:
ArgyleIsle · 08/06/2021 21:29

Misses the point...but only if I can choose the hotel to quarantine in. I hate being away from my home comforts and take an age to choose my holidays. Something as simple as the colour of the furniture is enough to put me off.😂

However, 10 days of luxury....and I'd consider it...

Dalooah · 08/06/2021 21:57

Do it. I feel that a lot of this red list is nonsense and rather is politically motivated under the guise of Covid.

There are countries on the red list that have far higher vaccination rates than the U.K. and that is supposedly one of the criteria for removal from the red list.

You sound like you've assessed the risks quite thoroughly and are prepared for any consequences. Take a deep breath and book it. Good luck!

freckles20 · 08/06/2021 22:54

OP I just wanted to mention that the two people that I know who had this done took a long time to recover. Pleased don't fly back and have to quarantine alone in a hotel if you think there's a possibility of you not being recovered enough to take good care of yourself.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/06/2021 22:57

I could do it alone but absolutely not with children!

AvantGardening · 08/06/2021 23:26

It’s obvious that you intent to do this. So there’s no need to ask for permission or if we would make the same choice.

You’ve made your decision.

MooseBreath · 08/06/2021 23:34

Couldn't afford it. Wouldn't even consider it with 12mo DS. Frankly wouldn't fancy DH there either.
On my own, sure. It wouldn't be pleasant, but for a good enough reason, it's doable.

In your case, I would go for it. Your life has been on hold. 10 days sacrifice where you exercise in the room seems a decent price to pay.

MaxNormal · 09/06/2021 00:01

If you can take enough time from work, why don't you travel to another country for ten days doesn't have Turkey red listed and also isn't on the UK red list, and them come back and do home quarantine?
Will be much cheaper and much nicer.
