Has anyone managed to get a closer second Jab?

My second vaccine is booked for 11 weeks after my first which I had last weekend so 10 weeks to go now until the second dose.
The problem with the system is you have to cancel your appointment in order to be able to look for any other appointments available so it's such a sambas to cancel what you've got to see if there's a sooner appointment!
Has anyone had any success in doing this?
Or should I leave it and just wait for my second on that date?

Well I tried, I could only get an appointment the day after although it’s a little bit closer to home. Wish you could check without cancelling the first one

tryingtocatchthewind · 06/06/2021 09:16

That was for Pfizer, I’ve just managed to bring my husband’s AZ earlier by 3 weeks

Thethingswedoforlove · 06/06/2021 09:20

I managed to bring my az one a month earlier and physically nearer.
My brother couldn’t manage it with Pfizer.
Someone else I know couldn’t manage it with az and ended up rebooking their existing second dose slot!

blametheparents · 06/06/2021 09:50

AZ - originally had 2nd dose booked at 12 weeks. Just brought it forward to 8 weeks after my 1st dose. Closer location too. I am over 40.

FakeColinCaterpillar · 06/06/2021 09:52

My local town has started having drop in clinics that you can have a second vaccination at. I had mine 2 weeks early that way. I only saw it advertised on Facebook though.

tryingtocatchthewind · 06/06/2021 10:02

@FakeColinCaterpillar my authority are doing the same (Indian hotspot) but it’s only the AZ that is being offered

Cushionsnotpillows · 06/06/2021 10:06

In Scotland, over 40, AZ. Got our blue letters with second dose brought forward about 3 weeks earlier than we were expecting from what we had been told at first jab.

This happened to me. The next one offered at the same venue was 2 weeks later. I thought what's happened to the one I just cancelled! Ended up going to a less convenient venue at a less convenient time to get it 2 days earlier. Had both done now though, so super happy!
Paulina23 · 06/06/2021 10:35

Anyone had luck with the moderna?

Longdistance · 06/06/2021 10:58

We have walk ins in our area, but certain criteria need to be met ie; minimum of 8 weeks since first dose. I cancelled my 12 week appointment when I had the walk in. I had AZ.

zobalina77 · 06/06/2021 12:04

My husband is 53 and had AZ. He couldn't bring his appointment earlier at all. So he's going today which is 12 weeks and 1 day from his first.

Sanch1 · 06/06/2021 12:08

I tried and couldn't, ended having to book one 4 days later. I wouldn't risk it unless your age group is specifically told too.

Grossbuttrue · 06/06/2021 12:10

@Paulina23 My husband managed to move his
Moderna forward but only by three days!

NotJustACigar · 06/06/2021 12:14

I'm still too scared to try - moderna and haven't had a text about it. Don't know if the text makes any difference though.

TillyTopper · 06/06/2021 12:18

I had the same problem as you OP - you have to cancel before you can see the new dates. As my 2nd jab is only 3 weeks off I didn't cancel!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 06/06/2021 12:41

I cancelled mine hoping for an earlier; there wasn't an option but was able to book for the exact appointment I'd had.

DuncinToffee · 06/06/2021 12:45

I did but only by 5 days and slightly further away. The earliest date for my local one was the appointment I had just cancelled.

starwarspyjamas · 06/06/2021 15:01

Thanks for this thread. Have just been able to move DHs (mid forties) slot forward from mid July to 21 June. Hundreds of slots were available that week.

Newgirls · 06/06/2021 15:03

I just walked into my centre yesterday - completely empty. Now need to cancel mine which is booked for 3 weeks time.

SonnetForSpring · 06/06/2021 15:15

The earliest choice I had for moderna was the date I already have booked.

TheVolturi · 06/06/2021 15:25

Just tried as I had my first 4 weeks ago and second isn't till end of July, cancelled and nothing earlier available in 30 miles radius so had to rebook same one.

TheVolturi · 06/06/2021 15:42

Oh dear. I've actually rebooked for nearer home so quite good, but will they know to give me pfizer again?

BigWoollyJumpers · 06/06/2021 15:50

Yep. Everyone I know in the 50+ age group have now had their second jabs, and all cancelled and re-booked them earlier inc. DH and myself. All AZ.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 06/06/2021 15:51

www.nhsggc.org.uk/your-health/health-issues/covid-19-coronavirus/for-patients-the-public/covid-vaccinations/drop-in-vaccinations/ if in Glasgow area there are walk in clinics

thekingfisher · 06/06/2021 15:51

I managed to have my second yesterday at an open clinic I had heard about. Had a long chat with lady whilst queuing and she said that they are now allowing anyone to have the 2nd but they mist have had 1st 8 weeks ago. So would use that as the benchmark as to if you can get one sooner
