Oh no, I'm no flyer but this will be a huge disappointment to many.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 03/06/2021 17:09

This whole situation is an utter, utter farce. I don’t know how the Government have got the nerve to show their collective face.

Unmappedcountry · 03/06/2021 17:13

My friend was booked to go tomorrow (delayed from last year) and fly back Tuesday morning :( feel so bad for her.

They are only doing what they said they would do... change countries status if things were going in the wrong direction. Im saying this as someone with 2 foreign holidays booked this year... I'd give them up in a heartbeat if it meant we open up fully this month.

Completely understand how disappointing it is but not really something to blame on the government.

It’s an absolute joke! We are due to go end of July and will be cancelling if it doesn’t get back in the green list at the next review. It’s a farce people are vaccinated, paying for tests at their own expense at vastly inflated prices and it’s still not good enough, we are still expected to imprison ourselves in our homes on return even though we will have tested negative before getting on the plane and on day 2. Anyone who thought vaccines were our ticket to freedom must be feeling very silly now. Meanwhile business travelers and government officials can jet here there and everywhere with no isolation period, you couldn’t make this shit up.

Well said. It's an absolute shit show Angry

Franklin12 · 03/06/2021 17:16

What happened to the 'Watch List'. Is there something going on here. Massive prices for staying in the UK for your holidays. Very very few deaths, we were promised the vaccines would release us yet we didnt lock down the borders from India knowing this was risky. Indian people travelling back and forth and going back to often multi generational houses and then working perhaps because they wouldnt get paid if they isolated let alone the fake CV19 tests from India.

It was an accident waiting to happen.

mocktail · 03/06/2021 17:19

I wondered that about the watch list too, @Franklin12 - did that get quietly dropped? Or forgotten about? I thought it was going to avoid this exact situation.

Why people would even have booked a holiday abroad this year is beyond me

It was obvious it was going to go tits up

Orf1abc · 03/06/2021 17:27

They are only doing what they said they would do... change countries status if things were going in the wrong direction.

The case rates in Portugal and England have both increased by c. 35% in the past week. The government tell us they see nothing in the data to suggest we should stop easing lockdown, then in the next breath they claim to have significant concerns about Portugal.

They can't have it both ways!

The reason I place blame at the Government’s door is the fact they are still allowing thousands of people in each day from red list countries, and have been for weeks, thus rendering this whole thing fairly pointless.
Watermelon222 · 03/06/2021 17:29

Something must have gone wrong with the “controlled” football fan travel if so many have tested positive.

That needs sorting before they let loads of holidaymakers go in the summer.

If the football fans were negative pcr tested before going and have tested on return it seems very quick to have so many positives.

That said I am genuinely sad for those who were due to travel , especially those with family abroad.

ConcernedAuntie · 03/06/2021 17:30

But have you seen this? The result of the football in Porto. Yes, I know it is the Dail Mail but they all had negative tests before they went. Probably a lot of themt oo young to have had jab yet.

Or even worse, allowing people in to self quarantine from high risk amber countries.....

Because they’re really going to properly quarantine aren’t they...?

BG2015 · 03/06/2021 17:38

What happened to giving holiday makers two weeks notice to get back?

Has that been quietly dropped?

SandysMam · 03/06/2021 17:39

I am sorry to everyone who cannot go on holiday. It is shit but it is a pandemic, not sure what anyone expected.

What's the gist of the article? I've blocked the Daily Mail on my phone.

@diggingatrench The poster was referring to being legally required to quarantine themselves in their home and not leave for 10 days upon return.

SueSaid · 03/06/2021 17:50

God it's like deja vu. Didn't we have exactly the same thing last year.

Book a holiday and take a chance but don't be all outraged if things change!

Abraxan · 03/06/2021 17:52

Teen Dd flies tomorrow and we've been on edge all day. She's flying to see her best friend who's been over there having a year out for the past year. They've been so excited to see one another again.

Dd even cancelled the hotel earlier as it was free to do so til 2 today.

And her negative result came back today from her previous departure test.

Luckily It's all back in again and hotel is currently being rebooked. She is due to return on Monday evening so she's free to go without quarantine issues.

And the chances of rush to anyone from her doing so is so low - test yesterday to say she can go. Test in Saturday before she can return on Monday. Plus a test next Wednesday again. Three tests in a week.

Whilst it's been a stressful day here I'm glad she can go and see her best friend after so long.

I know two older couples flying this weekend too. They're still going and will isolate in return as they don't have work issues to work round.

Exactly this. Foolish on the extreme to book anything other than last minute unless you can afford to quarantine. foreign travel isn't a right, with the caveat for those with seriously ill relatives abroad.
