@YoureGoingToHateMe

tzimi are you suggesting the government are doing this simply because they are on a power trip? Bit weird
I don't think that's what's happening. However I do think there is a lot of profit being made by U.K. private companies and individuals at the government's say so. The tests shouldn't cost what they do. They don't in many other countries.

Ir really would t surprise me to read that something is going on with the traffic light system that benefits those in Government and/or their hangers on. Portugal allowed at the exact time as the football, certain politicians going, then off green list a few days later. Figures hadn't changed much and still low, quoting a variant that WHO hasn't declared a concern at the time.

And a certain politician suddenly being on a 'pilot' scheme allowing them to not have to self isolate (after being T&T on a plane affected by Covid) and able to do a week of LFTs instead.

Convenient somewhat that these things occurred.

@Katie517

It’s an absolute joke! We are due to go end of July and will be cancelling if it doesn’t get back in the green list at the next review. It’s a farce people are vaccinated, paying for tests at their own expense at vastly inflated prices and it’s still not good enough, we are still expected to imprison ourselves in our homes on return even though we will have tested negative before getting on the plane and on day 2. Anyone who thought vaccines were our ticket to freedom must be feeling very silly now. Meanwhile business travelers and government officials can jet here there and everywhere with no isolation period, you couldn’t make this shit up.
Totally agree. Hardly anyone is dying from this disease now, it's about time they relaxed things a bit.

Do people think Portugal might go green again at the next briefing? Only I need to cancel flights as Jet 2 only cancelled up to end June. My accommodation balance is due before the next briefing and I don’t want to be any more out of pocket.

The list of new names for the variants, were they originated and the dates

@doorornottodoor I’m in exactly the same position as you and we don’t know what to do either. Gamble or cancel.
If it’s amber the insurance won’t pay but we can’t lose 10 days income if we have to quarantine after

Oblomov21 · 06/06/2021 19:42

This whole thing is really hacking me off.

Not because I'm due to fly, just because some of it I can't make sense of.

Am hoping to go to Portugal in October. Lord knows what the state will be by then!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 06/06/2021 19:48

Just seen on the news:

*Times this morning- the biosecurity centre recommended Malta and a host of other islands to go GREEN. And recommended that Portugal only be put on a watchlist as it was borderline"

But it was blocked by Matt Hancock.

So much for "following the science"

Surely if we are following the science when it's telling us we can't travel, we should be following it when it tells us we can.

So for those saying it's the scientists advising what's best and this isn't the governments fault.....

@Realitea it’s a nightmare. I know I’ve only myself to blame but I thought given that our travel date was beginning July we’d be ok. I think my insurance covers us if we go amber luckily. My worry is how do I actually cancel my flights? Do I just not show? I need to call my insurance company again. Originally they said I wasn’t covered but luckily I had a FAQ screenshot from their site which said I could cancel if the country went amber within 31 days of travel. But I need to try the airline/apartment owner /credit and debit cards first! Headache.

Dd landed back safely last night at 11pm. She was already due to land last night as it was her pre booked flight. It had on;y cost about £20 for the flight when she booked less than a month ago. Flight was noticeably busier and she overheard one couple saying the new flight had cost around £300!

Fwiw Dd had a great time seeing her best friend and said their covid controls seemed great over there with masks and social distancing. They have a 10:30pm curfew for bars, etc I think too.
