Who's currently cancelling their holiday to Portugal then?

People who book holidays at the moment are being, at the least, rather silly. Who knows when a country can change and reject UK visitors or when a country changes to red? Surely it is not THAT important to go on holiday? It may stay this way for a few years yet, so just accept it. No week in Benidorm with fish and chips and beer and football - thank God - you may as well stay at home anyway.
Yet another person thinking they are no doubt oh so hilarious and witty for having a pop at Benidorm. Why do you bother?
rookiemere · 03/06/2021 19:27

LOL at being selfish for getting the vaccine because you hope it means you can go on holiday. Some people really do love bandying the word selfish around.

It's a perfectly reasonable motivation for getting it - it may be the only motivation we have to persuade young people to get it.
Do I want to go on holiday abroad- course I do - i'll only go if allowed though. Surely Red and Green would be a lot more sensible than having this odd halfway house. Or better yet stop foreign travel until majority of adult population have their second vaccination.

Nice and sneery.

Isn't Benidorm in Spain?

@Katie517

It’s an absolute joke! We are due to go end of July and will be cancelling if it doesn’t get back in the green list at the next review. It’s a farce people are vaccinated, paying for tests at their own expense at vastly inflated prices and it’s still not good enough, we are still expected to imprison ourselves in our homes on return even though we will have tested negative before getting on the plane and on day 2. Anyone who thought vaccines were our ticket to freedom must be feeling very silly now. Meanwhile business travelers and government officials can jet here there and everywhere with no isolation period, you couldn’t make this shit up.
Anyone with half a brain knew that vaccines would only be the "ticket to freedom" when a critical mass of people had been vaccinated. It was blatantly obvious that we wouldn't have "freedom" until most people had been vaccinated.
Needanewhat · 03/06/2021 19:28

All I remember of holidays abroad as a child is bickering with my sisters.

RosaBudDrood · 03/06/2021 19:28

@singsingbluesilver

I cannot believe that people think the purpose of having the vaccine is so they can go on holiday. Selfish does not even begin to describe that attitude.
Who gives a shit if that's they're reasoning, as long as they have it.
venus22 · 03/06/2021 19:28

@DonkeysNotDisney

Vaccines were never 'a ticket to freedom

They most certainly have been sold as such.

Vaccines 'sold'.........? They are medical procedures, for the benefit of society, not lifestyle choices.
RosaBudDrood · 03/06/2021 19:30

Their** obvs.

MagicSummer · 03/06/2021 19:30

The purpose of the vaccine is to protect yourself and others from being infected and ill - nothing to do with going on holiday.

Abraxan · 03/06/2021 19:31

Benidorm isn't in Portugal, which is what the thread is about.
Dd is travelling to visit a friend. There's no fish and chips involved, certainly no football. Probably no beer though I can't say there won't be other alcohol - not least because they've got a port tasting booked.

jgw1 · 03/06/2021 19:31

I'm now very worried what this means for my holiday on Ascension Island, if it suddenly goes onto the amber list on the boat home, does that mean I have to isolate?

moynomore · 03/06/2021 19:36

Most people in the UK have been vaccinated.

moynomore · 03/06/2021 19:37

And once we're protected we need to get back to normal so we don't all lose our jobs and homes etc.
LoudestCat14 · 03/06/2021 19:38

@Needanewhat

Why people would even have booked a holiday abroad this year is beyond me

It was obvious it was going to go tits up

I don't know anyone who has booked anew this year but I know plenty, us included, who had their holidays rolled over from last year. Whether the holiday companies/airlines will let us do it again remains to be seen, but it's not our fault as consumers we're in this tits up situation.
Needanewhat · 03/06/2021 19:40

Most people in the UK have been vaccinated.

No they haven't. Hmm

Literally everyone I know has had the vaccine for this reason.
Realitea · 03/06/2021 19:41

I’m probably cancelling, wish I hadn’t even entertained the idea of going really

TheFunBus · 03/06/2021 19:42

I'm amazed anyone goes through the hassle of a holiday

my son went over to portugal for the football and we nearly had a hernia getting all the tests right and one of his tests came back late and he nearly couldn't fly home! the stress of that all would put me off!

doesn't amber only mean you have to isolate for 10 days on return?

Lalliella · 03/06/2021 19:43

Me Sad At least we haven’t paid anything yet though. And at least we’ve still got a holiday to France that I won’t be cancelling till the next review! Ah well, you takes your chances eh?

singsingbluesilver · 03/06/2021 19:43

I must have a nice circle of friends and family. Not one of them got the vaccine with the sole intention of enabling them to go on holiday abroad.

LesLavandes · 03/06/2021 19:43

I will wait til this all settles before booking anything.

I agree with pp up thread. There should be a red and green list and no amber list.

moynomore · 03/06/2021 19:44

@Needanewhat

Most people in the UK have been vaccinated.

No they haven't. Hmm

Yes they have. On the BBC site right now.
Brefugee · 03/06/2021 19:44

What was the point of getting vaccinated? A shitshow if ever I saw one. I want my life back. The variants are just going to keep on coming. Time to get on with it

until most people are vaccinated who can be, the vaccination is pretty much useless in terms of getting back to normal. Patience is what everyone needs.

@MagicSummer

For lots of people it’s about seeing family abroad who they’ve not seen in 15 months. We fall in that category so rather than drinking beer eating fish and chips in Benidorm we hope to see our parents who don’t like in England
