Anyone listening?

OP posts:

I’m still watching my way through it as had to go to work. Might get to the bit about Sunak supporting lockdown later. I’m not completely convinced that’s true.

Arrowheart · 26/05/2021 21:03

@Girlmama3

I don't understand the point. We all know they acted too late but it was over a year ago. Surely we need to move on and leave it in the past?
This is the response Boris gives every week at PMQs. His 'move on, nothing to see here' mantra.
frumpety · 26/05/2021 21:05

He said Cameron was “crazy” to say that he would trigger article 50, starting the two-year withdrawal process from the EU, immediately if Britain voted for Brexit. Cummings said there was no need to act that soon. In fact, there might be no need to trigger article 50 at all, he argued, because an alternative withdrawal process might be possible.

Interesting quote from the past being interviewed by a committee.

I'm hoping this is like the bit in a plague when the rats start eating themselves. That's what always happens with the Tories, they are their own worst enemy. Their utter ruthlessness is always their undoing. No doubt Johnson had virologists screaming at him since January and his blasé attitude let him think he knew best. Absolutely no doubt. But this narcissist is everything that's wrong with the government and should be ignored.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/05/2021 21:08

Matt Hancock says he didn't watch all of Dominic Cummings' testimony because he was busy 'saving lives

Breaking on Sky news. Ouch. I’m not sure Dom will care.

frumpety · 26/05/2021 21:08

Not sure if there have been any stories lately about Cameron ? What was it he called Cummings ?

MercyBooth · 26/05/2021 21:11

ITV 4 are trolling Boris. They are showing Jaws.

Blossomtoes · 26/05/2021 21:14

If Mr Johnson had been Prime Minister in 1984 and 1985, the miners would have won

Shame he wasn’t!

Dustyboots · 26/05/2021 21:19

Not sure if this has been posted already but it sums the whole thing up and made me laugh.

I’m not sure that’s all true. The Sage modelling was wrong. I think Witty or Vallance has already admitted that and apologised for it during one of the briefings.

I’m on another forum, mostly science based that was doing their own models at the start of last year. It was quite a surprise when SAGE came out with the 4 weeks behind Italy, because it was quite clear that we were only 2 weeks. Somewhere Sage’s modelling went wrong and underestimated how much trouble we were in. At some point they changed that to 2 weeks behind, which I think must have been around the point that DC is talking about on 18th/19th March and realising we were further along the curve than we thought.

Boris clearly wasn’t taking it seriously before that, but i’m not sure he’s entirely responsible for the decisions in Feb/early March.

@pennylane83

Oh for goodness sake. I don't have blood on my hands because I went out for a meal with my family in August. What nonsense

But the man whose scheme you and others happily took advantage of apparently does according to some posters. That's what is nonsense. That some people think that he is responsible and should be punished for the deaths that arose because joe public made the concious decision to dine out.

Totally agree. Dh and I avoided cafes and restaurants on those days because it just seemed crazy to be sitting in crowded restaurants when we were barely out of lockdown.

People died because of a lack of action, other countries of similar size and population density (even with a poor vaccine roll out) have done far better.

Had one of your loved ones died in a CH alone and scared, with family unable to visit, you' might have a different POV.

Pixxie7 · 26/05/2021 21:21

I can’t see what he has to gain from lying, he has hit the self destruct button and ruined his future prospects in public life. I do believe a lot of what he said and in someways I admire him , not something I ever thought I would say.

Guavafish · 26/05/2021 21:22

Every one loves a bit of floppy hairs racist Johnson

Quite good for The Guardian

‘Boris was basically an out-of-control shopping trolley careening from side to side down the aisles.’ Made me laugh

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2021 21:24

John crace is just brilliant.
So funny, but poignant too.
He nails everything.

Rejoiningperson · 26/05/2021 21:25

I agree SAGE weren’t really with it at first. They hadn’t taken on board (or even really looked at) what was happening in Italy. I read their minutes in March and they were not prepared.

However that doesn’t get this government off the hook. Johnson bought in his 3 sage/gp advisors and they were very much ‘yes’ people - obviously chosen to be that. And still SAGE did eventually catch on, did realise with the modelling and did say they were wrong in March. So they have some integrity, unlike others.

comfyslippets · 26/05/2021 21:27

Knob of a man. Putting how the government acted aside, who would listen to him seriously? He bloody broke the rules and expected the public to believe his shit show of lies. Wouldn't give that Tosser the time of day.

VioletCharlotte · 26/05/2021 21:30

Is anyone really surprised about Cumming's 'revelations'? We've watched this play out in front of our eyes over the last year and a bit. We watched Boris bumbling and u-turning on pretty much every decision made. We saw the last minute, poorly thought out 'plans' and 'guidance' that left everyone baffled. Cummings had just really confirmed what we all knew.

I think many people have forgotten just how shocking the government response was back in March 2020.

Blossomtoes · 26/05/2021 21:31

You can’t put how the government behaved aside - that was literally the point of grilling him for seven hours. 🙄
Roussette · 26/05/2021 21:35

Can't stand the bloke but I'm prepared to listen to him. There's a reason why we have the worst death rate in Europe when we just knew what wa coming our way from Italy.

supermoonrising · 26/05/2021 21:37

Johnson is not only piss poor at his job but also a devious, selfish twat of a human being. Incredible that he became PM and yet not a single person who has worked with him has a good word to say about the man professionally or personally. Makes you wonder about how this country works.

Kendodd · 26/05/2021 21:39

Just had a look what Leave EU on Facebook think of this. Their love for Johnson is undiminished (no surprise) and they all think he's doing a great job.

And still all those people voted for him. I do not get it.

The voters love him though. He's funny and has promised he won't say anything else racist while he's PM (not that his voters mind anyway).
