My son has just been told to isolate via the app for 7 days (works in a pub so always a risk)

He's now corralled on the top floor (own bathroom) but our room is opposite and I think the app could see it as a contact if within 15 feet ? (Through the wall)

It says on the app you can only turn it off for 12 hours at a time and it will prompt you every 12 hours

Is anyone still using the app?
If a customer had tested positive wouldn’t he pub have been contacted via the proper test and trace phone service?

NautaOcts · 25/05/2021 18:28

But yes I would definitely turn it off
Although it shouldn’t tell you to isolate just because of him having been told to, only if he had actually tested positive.

Alfaix · 25/05/2021 18:31

I have it permanently turned off. I work in healthcare and it’s too much hassle to turn it on and off all the time.
I used it to track the days until isolation ended when I tested positive and I use it if I have to scan a QR code.

Alfaix · 25/05/2021 18:34

Are you really going to make your DS stay in his room for 7 days on the off chance he’s positive? Kinda fair enough if he’s actually positive or symptomatic but otherwise this is quite extreme.
Are you ECV or unvaccinated?

Theforest · 25/05/2021 18:39

I turned it off.

Both me and my husband got a self isolate alert with a contact on a day we didn't even leave the house. Our neighbour had Covid and we can only assume it was picked up via close proximity through the wall.

StCharlotte · 25/05/2021 18:46

I turned mine off before Christmas when both neighbours (mid terrace) and their whole families went down with it. Just checked and It's still paused.

VicSynix · 25/05/2021 19:52

Turn your bluetooth off and just turn it back on when you need to scan a QR code. I work in a GP surgery one day a week and we're told to turn it off before we enter.

littlepeas · 25/05/2021 19:57

I would just delete the app tbh. I’ve never used it.

XenoBitch · 25/05/2021 20:02

I didn't realise anyone still used it. I never used it, but the people that I know who did had no end of trouble with it.

actiongirl1978 · 25/05/2021 20:05

Another one here I deleted it after 3 days as it messed with my Bluetooth radio in the car.

ElaborateSalad · 25/05/2021 20:06

The app is a pile of shite. I only turn it on to check in if I go somewhere.

As he hasn't tested positive though, you wouldn't have to isolate because you're the contact of a contact, rather than of a confirmed case.

Lockdownlifting12344555 · 25/05/2021 20:08

I only use it for checking into places, contact Tracing is turned off. I’d turn it off

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 20:09

Yes apparently according to the rules he has to stay there - it literally says confine to one room

I'm double vaccinated but work from home with clients who visit so really have to follow the rules

Going on holiday Friday though so he could go out the room then Grin

100% Freudian slip there too HmmGrin

Not son, daughters boyfriend- she can wait on him when she gets back from work

She's going to have to sleep on the kitchen floor - she doesn't get sick pay so can't catch it - she's way more careful than me (too young to be vaccinated yet)

What rules? The advice from the app is not legally binding.

littlepeas · 25/05/2021 20:30

I really can’t get my head around the whole shutting people up in one room thing - Mumsnet is the only place I’ve heard of anyone doing it. Poor sod is the even positive!

littlepeas · 25/05/2021 20:30

Isn’t even positive.

HappyToPayForAdultSocialCare · 25/05/2021 20:38

@Theforest

I turned it off.

This is exactly what happened to me. I've also turned mine off and only use it for QR codes.
Ugzbugz · 25/05/2021 20:41

I don't even understand how track and trace works with the app, I've had to scan in but my track and Trace is off due to those ridiculous alerts ages ago etc so would I not be tracked?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/05/2021 20:43

Yes apparently according to the rules he has to stay there - it literally says confine to one room

Are you sure about that? I don't have a spare room so if DH or I have to isolate we won't be in separate rooms even if one of us tests positive!

I deleted the app. I live in a flat and I'm not isolating if it picks up that one of the neighbours tests positive! If I go anywhere I'm happy to give my details manually but I'm not checking in with the app.

Summerfun54321 · 25/05/2021 20:44

Have you been fully vaccinated OP? Can you get your son to take regular lateral flow tests? I don’t see why he has to stay in his room, a lot has changed since those dark times when kids were locked away for 2 weeks!!

TeddingtonTrashbag · 25/05/2021 20:46

Just delete the app!

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 20:50

Yes, here

It's too early to know if he has symptoms (or is asymptomatic)

Dh works in a school with 1500 students - I don't think anyone would be happy at him taking it into school just before half term Grin

The young healthy lad can stay in his room (with his tv/computer games and 80 bags of crisps)

I'm supposed to turn contact tracing off aren't I ?

Thirtyrock39 · 25/05/2021 20:50

I'm self isolating due to being a contact (track and trace contacted me Saturday ) and the app isn't even showing a countdown or anything - what a farce! I keep checking it and it's definitely the up to date version but I'd never know I was in isolation looking at it

Mammyloveswine · 25/05/2021 20:53

Eh? He's not tested positive, has no symptoms, is your daughters boyfriend and SHE is sleeping on the kitchen floor just in case?! Bloody hell!
