My son has just been told to isolate via the app for 7 days (works in a pub so always a risk)

He's now corralled on the top floor (own bathroom) but our room is opposite and I think the app could see it as a contact if within 15 feet ? (Through the wall)

It says on the app you can only turn it off for 12 hours at a time and it will prompt you every 12 hours

Lot of misinformation here! This is the guidance for people told to isolate by app... www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/if-youre-told-to-self-isolate-by-nhs-test-and-trace-or-the-covid-19-app/

What's the wrong info please?

It doesn’t matter whether you delete the app or not, if he lives with you and has one of the 3 main symptoms you all have to isolate until he has a negative test or for 10 days if he’s positive.
As he now has a cough, if it’s ‘new and continuous’ he needs to get a PCR test and the whole household needs to isolate until it’s negative.
He can obviously stay in his room to avoid making you all unwell, but it won’t affect whether or not you isolate.

Spekoppar · 26/05/2021 05:46

“I'm self isolating due to being a contact (track and trace contacted me Saturday ) and the app isn't even showing a countdown or anything - what a farce!”

If you were contacted by test & trace, as opposed to the app tracking you as a contact then you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see it on the app. Test and trace don’t update details on individual apps. If the contact you had who tested positive also has the app, and both of you had your phones with Bluetooth on when you had contact, plus they’ve input their test results into the app then you’d expect a ping from that too, but it’s not automatic.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Yes apparently according to the rules he has to stay there - it literally says confine to one room

Are you sure about that? I don't have a spare room so if DH or I have to isolate we won't be in separate rooms even if one of us tests positive!

I deleted the app. I live in a flat and I'm not isolating if it picks up that one of the neighbours tests positive! If I go anywhere I'm happy to give my details manually but I'm not checking in with the app.

This!

My teenage son has had to self isolate twice and neither time have I confined him to a single room. Apart from anything else he shares a room with his brother so really didn't see the point in putting him in a room on his own all day but sharing a room at night.

tigger1001 · 26/05/2021 06:17

@LaurieFairyCake

I think fairly obviously just before half term with us going on holiday for next week and 3 days of DH working in a massive secondary school we will follow the guidance

I'm not having my holiday threatened since it's last years holiday Hmm

If he tests positive as he is living in your house would you not need to self isolate anyway?
kimlo · 26/05/2021 06:25

I turn mine off at work because my phone isn't with me. The only time it's told me to self isolate it was about quarter of an hour before track and trace told me to si, and because I lived with someone who was symptomatic I already was.

I don't know what test and trace would say if he's in your house but not close enough to be classed as a close contact. But I hope you get your holiday.

stuckinarutatwork · 26/05/2021 06:26

@LaurieFairyCake That screenshot you posted clearly says to keep away from other members of your household if you have symptoms- it's not aimed at those self-isolating as a close contact.

However, as the lad has subsequently developed Covid symptoms as your posts progressed, everyone in your household should now self-isolate and he should take a test (PCR not lateral flow). If the results come back negative, the rest of you can move freely but he should still isolate until the 10 days are up.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/05/2021 06:29

@Alfaix

I have it permanently turned off. I work in healthcare and it’s too much hassle to turn it on and off all the time. I used it to track the days until isolation ended when I tested positive and I use it if I have to scan a QR code.
Same here. And I'd forgotten all about it until I was told to scan in Costa. Who also then insist on checking you've actually checked in. (I usually just pretend) can't see the point of checking in if T&T is off.
CosmicComfort · 26/05/2021 06:34

You can turn the app off for as long as you like.

I can’t have it on at work (NHS) so rarely remember to turn it back on. Nothing has ever happened, certainly no reminders.

Hope he stays symptom free.

kimlo · 26/05/2021 08:06

when you turn contact tracing off it asks if you would like a reminder in 4, 8 or 12 hours. Then it sends a push message to remind you.

shewalkslikerihanna · 26/05/2021 12:07

@AlwaysonEtsy

People use the app??!
😂

And if his comes back negative too?

Seeline · 26/05/2021 12:15

And if his comes back negative too?

He still has to complete the original isolation period as he may still develop covid.

LadyCatStark · 26/05/2021 12:19

I deleted the app as I needed the space on my phone 🤷‍♀️.

Normandy144 · 26/05/2021 13:22

Delete the app! If I go to a restaurant I just give them my details instead. No need for us to have it anymore.

Larkstongues · 26/05/2021 13:52

Yes and the wonderful thing about manually giving details such as mobile numbers is that you can choose to ignore numbers that call that you don't recognise.
Or maybe you get a digit wrong - as can quite frequently happen. I'm no good at remembering numbers. Not even my own.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/05/2021 17:39

He's taken 2 tests and no Covid yet - he feels fine too

The coughing I heard didn't turn into a thing

He's just playing computer games and eating doughnuts

OP posts:
ssd · 27/05/2021 11:20

Well thats good news then

Are you sure he actually was told to self isolate...it might be a ruse to get away with gaming and eating doughnuts Grin

ssd · 27/05/2021 11:21

@LaurieFairyCake, where are you going on holiday, somewhere nice?
