My son has just been told to isolate via the app for 7 days (works in a pub so always a risk)

He's now corralled on the top floor (own bathroom) but our room is opposite and I think the app could see it as a contact if within 15 feet ? (Through the wall)

It says on the app you can only turn it off for 12 hours at a time and it will prompt you every 12 hours

I have never had contract tracing on. I had no idea it was suppose to be alerting me to turn it on?

Tbh I have no idea why I have the app, I have never used it. Had to double check I still had it installed.

Also we established very early on in the pandemic, if one of us ever had to isolate for whatever reason that it would be impossible for us to completely isolate.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 20:56

Mammy he's not tested positive YET as he's not been out for a test

He's just texted our daughter to say he's got a headache

It says 'try to stay away from people you live with' so it's not a rule only guidance that I doubt a lot of people will be able to follow even if they want to.

I wouldn't even bother trying to stay separate if it was DH and I as it would be impossible. We decided back at the start that we wouldn't even attempt to isolate from each other as it would be too hard (not being apart from each other before anyone thinks we're joined at the hip!). I did get told on here that if I loved DH I would wear a mask indoors - not sure why he didn't have to!

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 21:02

Yes, it's pretty detailed guidance on STAY IN YOUR ROOM AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE Grin

ssd · 25/05/2021 21:03

Can he take a test?

lljkk · 25/05/2021 21:05

guidance is not legal requirement. Corraling is a choice you made, OP.

loulouljh · 25/05/2021 21:08

I have never downloaded it and have no intention of doing so! I would get rid of the wretched thing..

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 21:11

I've said to him to go and get a test as they're asking everyone to test twice a week here

But it doesn't shorten the 7 days unfortunately he still can't go to work - they're so pissed off approaching the bank holiday weekend

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 21:17

I think fairly obviously just before half term with us going on holiday for next week and 3 days of DH working in a massive secondary school we will follow the guidance

I'm not having my holiday threatened since it's last years holiday Hmm

I think that guidance is for if you are isolating due to having coronavirus rather than if you are isolating due to a potential contact.

I don't have the app, had it for about a week and deleted.

For info, when we had Covid our 2 teens kept mainly to their rooms (no hardship for them!) and didn't catch it from us 3 who had it. Hope everyone in your household stays well and you get your holiday!

ssd · 25/05/2021 21:26

I'd follow the guidance, we have done this too.

milkysmum · 25/05/2021 21:32

I'm a healthcare worker ( nurse ). The guidance you have posted is for people who are isolating with either a confirmed case of covid or symptoms of covid. Not those isolating as close contacts. I have two children who frequently have to isolate as close contacts from school ( both of them at least 3/4 times each ) and they do not stay confined to a room and I carry on going to work as normal unless one of them gets symptoms.

milkysmum · 25/05/2021 21:33

And I would definitely delete the app...!

Watapalava · 25/05/2021 22:11

First delete the app

That guidance is wrong

Contacts do not have to isolate like that given vast majority don’t go on to test positive

In a pub he really shouldn’t have app on

I thought the app wasn't legslly binding but that might have changed I guess.

This.

People in healthcare are advised to not use the app too.

They would never ever be in work otherwise.

Watapalava · 25/05/2021 22:21

You do not have to isolate via app

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/uk-news/nhs-contact-tracing-apps-self-18989026.amp

Given he works in pub he’d be isolating every week. I’m not surprised his boss is unhappy. He shouldn’t have it

Northernlurker · 25/05/2021 22:25

App is total waste of time imo. I never installed it,

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 22:56

He's never had to isolate before even though he's working about 60 hours a week

Apparently you do have to isolate now if the app tells you to 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
milkysmum · 25/05/2021 23:06

Yes you do have to isolate if you are identified as close contact, but others in your household do not and I've never known of others staying completely separate from others in situations as this. As I said earlier, those of us with school children have this frequently ( or I certainly do ).

I wondered when they,'d do that I expect it was kept quiet to stop people deleting the app

EastWestWhosBest · 25/05/2021 23:15

I had the app, as had DH.
I got Covid and put that on the app. DH didn’t get an alert.

AlwaysonEtsy · 25/05/2021 23:19

People use the app??!

LaurieFairyCake · 25/05/2021 23:22

No one else in the house is isolating, don't need to do that

I can hear him coughing now, he's ordered a test to be delivered and DD dropped off a takeaway to him

He's just had his 2 days off this week and never left his room anyway Grin

I've never had the Bluetooth thing turned on!
