Third wave - do you think we’ll lockdown again? When will this end?!

Notsure6 · 20/05/2021 20:16

Just that really. Keep seeing that we’re on the cusp of a third wave. What do you all think this will this mean for locking down or our current (limited) freedom?

They can impose a lockdown all they want, keep me from shops, gyms, pubs etc, but there's not a reason on earth that would keep me away from family and friends again- most of which have been vaccinated anyway.

If the vaccines don't work then nothing does, we can't go through this endless cycle of lockdown and the vaccine will get us out scenario. A 3rd booster is being talked about now, you know now this will be used as propaganda to lockdown again come autumn " 3 weeks months to flatten the curve why we revaccinate the elderly and vulnerable "

RoseRedRoseBlue · 20/05/2021 20:55

@Wellbythebloodyhell that’s exactly the sort of scenario I am thinking of. They will eke it out as far as they can, no matter how much credibility is stretched.

Ostara212 · 20/05/2021 20:55

@GirlCrush

30 deaths over 0 months compared to our local Asian community of 26 deaths over 0 months

we are in top 5 areas and are facing a local lockdown according to local mp

0 months?
TheVampiresWife · 20/05/2021 21:02

Why do those of you who are convinced there'll be another lockdown think that's the case?

The vaccine works against the Indian variant. Hospital admissions aren't increasing in huge numbers nor are they likely to. That's what drove previous lockdowns. So what's your reasoning?

LucilleTheVampireBat · 20/05/2021 21:03

@H1978

Just had a WhatsApp, although not sure if it’s authentic, that Lancashire area are going to be put into tier 4 from tonight.
Oh pull the other one Donald.

That better be fake news or they can fuck off.
AgeLikeWine · 20/05/2021 21:06

The government is currently using scientists’ current uncertainty about the possible risks of the Indian variant to persuade / encourage / frighten (choose your own verb) as many previously ‘hesitant’ people as possible to get vaccinated.

From a public health perspective, that’s the right thing to do, but it inevitably causes more hysteria in the media which results in more anxiety, uncertainty and, as we are seeing on MN, paranoia among the wider public.

Depends who sent it I guess.
Orangesandlemons77 · 20/05/2021 21:11

I just read they are starting a campaign to get younger people vaccinated including ads on dating sites etc, it does seem that this is helpful for getting the younger age groups to come forward.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 20/05/2021 21:16

I am in Wales where Covid is now the 18th leading cause of death. There is no way they could justify another lockdown, imo they can't really justify the restrictions we have currently.

NewMatress · 20/05/2021 21:21

I think we will see an increase in cases, but I hope that with the vast majority of higher risk people vaccinated, the serious illness that caused pressure on the NHS will be much lower so there will be no need for lockdown.

TBH, I don't think there'd be much point anyway. No vaccinated people are going to comply.

DirtyDancing · 20/05/2021 21:22

No, I don’t think so. We may back peddle a bit, we may not make the next milestone on the roadmap yet, but I can’t see full lockdown happening again, unless there is an significant rise in deaths / hospitalisation. That seems unlikely, but not impossible. There are indications from Singapore and Taiwan (source bbc news) that variants are affecting younger people more but for different reasons so it may not replicate here.

Vaccine + slow and careful unlocking is really key. No point taking 1 step forward and 2 back. I’d prefer to hold the line on easing to have some freedom until vaccine rates in under 30s is higher.

The Tories know that lockdowns won’t be popular with voters, they won’t want to do it. They hate pissing of their new proBexit fan base.

Imnothereforthedrama · 20/05/2021 21:30

I honestly can’t see how they can justify it and even if they did I’m not complying anymore.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 20/05/2021 21:36

I'd like to think we won't.

Best wait and see what's happening with the numbers in a couple of weeks with admissions and deaths as you don't test positive, get admitted and die in a space of 2 days.
I did work for the NHS but have recently left. They're definitely seeing more in my old trust but not to previous levels.

And to those who wouldn't comply if it happened again.
What would you do?

Take a teacher hostage?
Break into a pub?
Kidnap a hairdresser?

PurpleRainDancer · 20/05/2021 21:39

@Temp023

Ohh God! Not this again, can’t you people get yourselves another bloody hobby!
Give over Hmm
Stitched77 · 20/05/2021 21:46

X deaths/cases does NOT have to mean Y restrictions.

Even if that is the tactic the gov use, you have agency over your body - you can decide whether to submit or not.

Personally, I feel that everyone has had 15 months to make changes. If they are still scared, they can stay at home - but they don't get to tell me what to do. Blimey - average age of covid death is about 82 even after the NHS buffed the figures - they are on pensions and don't have to go out to work

Wellbythebloodyhell · 20/05/2021 21:47

And to those who wouldn't comply if it happened again. What would you do?

Not stay away from family and friends for starters, nor would my dc be confined to the house again, they could go out and see their friends as much as they want too

Well obviously none of those things but will carry on seeing family . I refuse to stop mixing households after so long not able to especially now we’ve had the vaccine.

I did - and got zero! Which is great to see.

I’m not personally worried about catching Covid myself, I’m worried about lockdowns or restricted travel to stop the spread and new variants forming.

Just want to see an end to all this... but don’t we all Sad

StressMagnet · 20/05/2021 22:09

I personally think it's a nervous times as we wait to see if vaccines are our way out. We are yet again in unknown waters arent we? Surely people must see that we are primed for another way coming out of lockdown again. In the previous two lockdowns, number go up on lifting restrictions. We never had vaccines then so let's hope the work in this real life test.

If things shut down again there is zero choice on whether your kids go to school, you can go the pub or holiday etc. Zero. As said by a pp who will you kidnap?

As far as mixing against the rules, some of my family and friends are horrified I am mixed within the rules.

I dont see endless personal choice either way. I cant force anyone to mix with me today. I cant go on holiday abroad. I cant return to normal. Same with a possible third wave / lockdown.

GirlCrush · 20/05/2021 22:42

that should have said ALL months, not 0!!

so here we go.....one local school closed already

All months since...the beginning of time? 😂
RoseRedRoseBlue · 20/05/2021 23:06

@TheVampiresWife due to the type of situation mentioned about flattening the curve and the booster jab, because the Government are now desperately trying to cover their ineptitude by blaming the public and because they have now got a history of promising things that will ‘definitely’ happen and then have to back-pedal.

GirlCrush · 20/05/2021 23:09

@Ostara212 thats the terminology used 'over all months'

not something i've made up, just whats on the map on that link
