New thread as the MRHA report is out today.

Note this is not an anti vaccination thread.

@Rainbowsandstorms

Good luck with your decision.
If you do decide to go for it, keep looking at Prof Markis;s tweet to reassure and calm x

Rainbowsandstorms · 24/06/2021 12:43

Thank you, I’d got myself into the headspace ready to go today and I got a message cancelling my appointment due to not having enough AZ, what are the chances! The centre were great and gave me the numbers for the local centres and I’ve arranged a walk in appointment for tomorrow at a different centre. I’m glad you’re doing well @Jabbinell and @MiniMaxi did you feel a sense of relief re having made a decision once you’d had yours?

MiniMaxi · 24/06/2021 14:04

@Rainbowsandstorms how ironic, glad you managed to sort something else out for tomorrow

Yes I felt much less anxious after making the decision and getting it done. I think a lot of my anxiety is related to decision-making so it has helped.

Hope you feel better too, once it’s done

MiniMaxi · 24/06/2021 14:15

PS the report is out, overall cases actually down this week as they had some duplicate patient info

Rate after second doses is 1.6 per million overall, 0.8 per million in under 50s.

Avocadowoman · 24/06/2021 14:16

Is the section about clots with low platelets after Pfizer new? 12 events 1 death? Still much much smaller than AZ.

penni00 · 24/06/2021 14:17

@Rainbowsandstorms
I can''t believe they cancelled the appointment! Things don't go easily for you, do they?!

Jabbinell · 24/06/2021 15:53

@Rainbowsandstorms no way!!! Yes i had a melt down, couldn’t breathe and cried at the nurse. She let me go sit down to decide. I felt much better after. Id been obsessing over it for weeks and weeks so the post anxiety has been nothing compared.

Rainbowsandstorms · 24/06/2021 16:11

I know I couldn’t believe it. I’d really got myself into the headspace ready to have it. The lady I spoke to was so lovely and apologetic. I’m currently feeling fairly calm about going tomorrow after spending all of yesterday in tears. The decision making process has been a huge cause of anxiety so I’m hoping in some ways I’ll feel a little calmer after I’ve had it. I’ve been dreading doing that @Jabbinell if I’d tried to go yesterday I would have definitely completely broken down. Trying to locate my nerves of steel ready for tomorrow.

Interestingly I was advised today when I was called that any gap over 14 weeks may need the approval of my GP?! I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Just trying to unravel today’s figures. It feels like when they add and take away missed cases from the covid cases! Deaths after a second dose remain the same though and I think there are only a few extra second dose cases. Though I’m still trying to work through it all.

@Avocadowoman I thought that was new too. I have the whole of last week’s report printed out so I’ll check but definitely much lower than after AZ.

whataballbag · 24/06/2021 17:47

@penni00

So the deflated armpits were preferable?:)
Haha yes it was like a bloody tennis ball!
penni00 · 24/06/2021 18:07

I wasn't really making sense, I meant to say was your inflated armpit preferable to the AZ side effects, plus how is the headache today?

RoseAddict · 24/06/2021 22:28

I’ve been following this thread since the first one. They’ve clearly stated it’s only Pfizer if anyone still looking for a first dose can get there charltonchampion.co.uk/2021/06/15/the-valley-to-become-mass-vaccination-centre-this-saturday/

RoseAddict · 24/06/2021 22:30

Actually the article I linked said AZ but the leaflet I got through my door said Pfizer only. Check before travelling!

CrappyBirthday2Me · 25/06/2021 00:06

I've got 5 friends in other countries who have all had AZ first doses who are either having or have already had Pfizer or Moderna as second doses. I'm so freaking jealous but also really anxious because it reminds me that other countries aren't giving AZ as second doses. It's just like back at the start of all this when other countries were banning AZ for certain age groups and we were merrily ploughing on. I'm 13 weeks post first dose so I'm running out of time to decide.

penni00 · 25/06/2021 00:10

I think I will move abroad! Anything to avoid AZ.

penni00 · 25/06/2021 00:18

@CrappyBirthday2Me

Curious about side effects on mixing.
Do you know what your friends' side effects were like after the Pfizer/Moderna. Were they better or worse than after their first AZ?

One said it was about the same, so they had 24 hours of fever, aches, tiredness etc and then the tiredness persisted for about 3 days.

Other didn't have a fever but felt rubbish and had a bit of an upset tummy.

penni00 · 25/06/2021 00:45

Thank you. The UK trials of mixing are implying that mixing gives more side effects. I had my AZ 14 weeks ago and still have side effects, so I am reluctant for more AZ, but dubious about what I might be like if I had Pfizer following AZ (if allowed)

CrappyBirthday2Me · 25/06/2021 00:57

I don't know about mixing either. Also, since Pfizer seems to come with its own risks (heart) I worry that mixing will just mean I take the risks of both vaccines!

penni00 · 25/06/2021 01:30

Yes I know what you mean!

EmpressSuiko · 25/06/2021 08:57

Has anyone had any success with getting Moderna through their GP? My doctor is happy to try and arrange and alternative for me but doesn’t want me to have Pfizer due to allergy concerns so she is trying to see if I can have the Moderna vaccine, the main issue is trying to find where it’s available though.

RoseWineTime · 25/06/2021 09:28

We found out yesterday that my DH had Pfizer after AZ in the mixing com-cov trial! I found out I had 2 Pfizer’s. We were both a bit ill after our second jabs but he wasn’t worse than me.

coogee · 25/06/2021 09:38

I had the Moderna and they nearly didn’t give it to me when I mentioned allergies. They give you the third degree on allergies before they let you through and make you wait 15 minutes before you leave just in case you react badly to it. AZ they let you out straight away as long as you aren’t driving.

I had AZ. They gave me the third degree on previous allergies (serious reaction to an unknown substance 10 years ago, never before or since - had to be grilled by 2 different doctors) made me wait 30 minutes in the building before I was allowed to leave and then told a further 15 minutes in the car before driving.
EmpressSuiko · 25/06/2021 09:45

@coogee oh my doctor said that one would be better for me due to Pfizer having a higher rate or reactions, she said it’s really tricky but understands my concerns and apprehension surrounding having my second AZ. I’m hoping she comes back with some god news for me, I know logically the risk is small but I have two children with disabilities and my husband has cancer. I just can’t cope with the stress of risking a blood clot!

AppleJane · 25/06/2021 10:33

@EmpressSuiko what reason did you give your GP for not wanting AZ? Just wondering on what grounds your GP was happy to agree to an alternative Smile
