@KurtWilde

Look I've stuck to this shit for a year. I'm sick of this one rule for one and a different one for someone else. If it's ok to gather in droves for Eid it's ok for me to hug my FULLY VACCINATED mum.

I totally agree. I'm sick to death of most of us sticking to the rules and continually being penalised because a minority just ignore everything and carry on doing what they want with absolutely no come back

they could lock us up for another year and the same people who have ignored the restrictions from day one will still carry on regardless while the rest of us lose our livelihoods and mental health

@MrsMonet

I can't believe that there are people on here that think that after 5 MONTHS (in England) of closures, we still shouldn't open restaurants, bars, museums etc on Monday. Do you honestly want to be locked down forever?

They do, they really do.

@KurtWilde

Really don't care what he has to say, my roadmap stays in place. It was Eid where I live and there were massive parties, streams of people coming in and out of each other's houses and cars full turning up. If that's ok then hugging my fully vaccinated mum is ok. Boris can fuck off.

Why are you blaming Boris for people acting like idiots? It's not as if he told them it was OK to do that?!

Its bloody scandalous the way they've handled the Indian Varient risk to our country !
The very minute that India was put on the red list..... all incoming travel to the UK from, and/or transited from India SHOULD have required total hotel isolation. UNQUESTIONABLE. Not home isolation.

What ever were they thinking to give travellers from India
5 days before Hotel insolation was mandatory??? WHF.

Surge vaccination in hot spots?

That will only work when people want to be vaccinated. The hot spots already had issues with the intake,

And it’s too late. It’s like fighting yesterday’s war. The variant is all over the place and growing rapidly. It takes three weeks to get reasonable immunity. You’re taking vaccines from young people in other parts of the U.K. to do it that could look worse than current hotspots in three weeks time.

@randomlyLostInWales

I think it will be about surge vaccination program in areas with high levels of Indian variant - make sure people are aware it's there and encouage younger adults to take up the option.

Plus a lot of waffle.

the new variant is there ALAS

Is nobody else questioning the timing of this??

3 days before the biggest lifting of restrictions since last summer and all of a sudden the Indian variant is very scary and splashed across the news via sensationalised headlines?? After a handful more cases of it? When they have no reason to suspect it evades immunity or causes more serious illness? And the NHS is nowhere near being overwhelmed?

You’re being scared in to submission again. It’s like fucking gaslighting.

I've seen a suggestion that they might vaccinate people over 16 in surge areas - maybe it's to announce that?

@ChocChip01

I’ve just heard on the news that the government says Monday will still go ahead despite Indian variant. So maybe it’s more about increase in surge testing and vaccinating younger people quicker.

I think that makes a lot of sense, tbh. Throw all the excess vaccine capacity at Bolton, or London, or wherever else cases are high. If that means 35+ people in other areas where there is no covid anyway have to wait longer, I'm OK with that.

Why on Earth was there a weeks notice with India?

Listen to you all moaning . Just wait and see. They are gathering info on the new variant and will be damned if they take action and damned if they don’t .

The government needs to take full responsibility for this fiasco.

They should have locked up those travellers. We have done enough time in this country and want OUT!

But there ISN'T one rule for one & a different one for others.

Large gatherings, or even small ones, for EID were NOT permitted.

Some people just don't give a shit about others, then act all surprised when whole families die from Covid & community spread is rife.

It’ll be ‘serious serious serious - we are very concerned- blah blah blah - we have to watch the data - bollocks bollocks bollocks - but we are still letting out out on Monday because we are so kind’

Everyone suffering from Stockholm syndrome “oh thank you kind government, wow you’re really spoiling us”

How many times??!!!!

Which will be pointless unless they stop those same people from leaving their area.

I just cannot understand why we didn't stop ALL flights from India (and neighbouring countries, because you can bet it's spread there too) as soon as this variant was identified. Why give people notice? It's just stupid.

I know - hence them wanting to accelerate the vaccination program in areas with it to stop it spreading.

Yes immunity with vaccination takes a while to kick in but in a few weeks there would be a smaller pool of people who are vunerable to infection thus limiting it's spread.

The delay in acting on India was all about Boris's planned trip. He was desperate to get there before the EU delegation so waited until the very last second to cancel it - only then could India be put on the red list.

Despite the incredible vaccination effort, we are still regarded with suspicion by a lot of other countries, particularly those that have rejected the AstraZenica vaccine. We may be allowed to travel to Portugal etc. but we won't necessarily be allowed in when we get there.

Maybe, he is going to stand there and say 'sorry, folks, but the Indian variant is spreading fast in parts of the country, and it is all my fault because I was too slow to put India on the red travel list, I hung on too long because I was looking forward to my four day trip there'.

Thewiseoneincognito · 14/05/2021 13:40

Regardless of what the announcement will be, over the next few weeks we will see a large uptick in Indian variant numbers through Eid celebrations. I just hope people are taking sensible precautions, it’s a perfect storm otherwise.

I can not stress this enough, things could change drastically very quickly.

Why on Earth was there a weeks notice with India?

Same reason it took so long to put India on the Red list. Politics & popularity, not science or common sense
