So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

I think it will be to talk about how they are dealing with the new variants. Presumably this will be targeting vaccinations and testing in those areas of concern. Perhaps some targeted lockdown restrictions to continue in those areas too. I do think it is too early to end mask-wearing in senior school classrooms - they are communal places.

@KurtWilde

Really don't care what he has to say, my roadmap stays in place. It was Eid where I live and there were massive parties, streams of people coming in and out of each other's houses and cars full turning up. If that's ok then hugging my fully vaccinated mum is ok. Boris can fuck off.

And there lies the problem.

@Beebityboo

This constant uncertainty is taking such a toll on my mental health Sad. Mondays restriction lifting won't be cancelled will it?

I know you've really struggled 💐 I think they SHOULD stop Mondays easing, but I don't think they will. I think it would have been an 8pm briefing if that was their plan.

How are your kids doing?

We are limping along now but if action isn't taken, we will come a complete halt again. I'd rather limp and make progress.

Look I've stuck to this shit for a year. I'm sick of this one rule for one and a different one for someone else. If it's ok to gather in droves for Eid it's ok for me to hug my FULLY VACCINATED mum.

they should put a stop to the indoor socialising & hospitality venues opening etc

I'm not sure the people who's livelihoods and businesses who are depending on this would agree with you. I'm sure people forget that covid isn't the only issue at play here and can't see the bigger picture beyond it.

Then let’s vaccinate the under 40’s. Most of us would book if we could. Let anyone who wants the jab book! Stop this whole by age rubbish and let anyone who’s willing book a jab.

@MrsMonet

I can't believe that there are people on here that think that after 5 MONTHS (in England) of closures, we still shouldn't open restaurants, bars, museums etc on Monday. Do you honestly want to be locked down forever?

Well if we open up Monday we will be locked down again fairly quickly that’s pretty certain, so I’d say you’re on the wrong team?

The Indian variant is going to be a big headache for us. When the history students study the ‘Covid pandemic years’ in the next couple of decades they will probably have ‘Indian Variant’ as a case study of how poor shortsighted decision making lead to further lockdowns and misery.

*Basically, they should put May 17 easings on hold until further notice, but they're do wet to do it.
*
Too wet to do it or just actually, you know, considering the bigger picture?

People can't live like this anymore. Businesses can't survive like this anymore.

They're probably trying to balance the threat of a public health crisis with the threat of a substantial economic crisis (which also ruins lives and kills people), and for over a year now that balance has overwhelmingly tipped in the health crisis favour.

But yeah lets close businesses forever... who liked the hospitality industry anyway? And who wants to socialise indoors? We're all supposed to be robots with no emotional needs or wants, no mental health, and no right to earn a living 🙃 black and white thinking.

Wouldn't it be nice if the virus could just fold itself up and go away?

I think it will be about plans to tackle this. Followed by a week or two of opening up then the usual backtracking and some regional closures that most people will ignore because they are fed up

I wonder if the new variant is affecting younger people (so the people
Who aren’t vaccinated here yet) and that’s the cause for concern as it seems that way in news stories about India, but it’s hard to tell if the news is skewed.

I expect it'll be something along the lines of:

  • You can go to Portugal
  • We're not canceling Monday
  • The vaccines seem to be working against the new variant
  • We're going to do surge vaccinations & testing in the most affected areas such as Bolton for all over 18's
  • Don't panic, but continue to exercise caution, wash your hands etc etc

I wonder if the top down vaccination is coming to bite them on the arse. Yes the older age groups are the most vulnerable but the younger age groups have a wider social circle, especially those with children.

None have you have seen the shit storm then of long covid. Healthy marathon running friends and family, like no longer able to work, continue and adding to the NHS staff shortages. People who caught it just by going for a run/to the shops. Great if you get it vaccinated and fine, but there is currently a whole hidden population of people with long covid that other young people are saying “crack on we’re fine”

Well everyone around me is breaking all the rules anyway and don’t care and think the vaccine makes them immune and don’t care that the vulnerable includes the doctors working with medical conditions and their kids best friend at school etc etc. Summers nearly here, eating out and attractions etc is ok, holidays are allowed in the U.K., people are sneaking people inside overnight. Just be sensible and keep masks at school and see how the vaccine works against the Indian variant.

Report
IndigoC · 14/05/2021 13:26

It’ll be about surge vaccinations. I’m not a fan, it takes too long to acquire immunity and means taking vaccinations away from people who might end up being in new hotspots.

I have friends and family in the leisure trade, they have ordered non refundable perishables for a full booked next week. They are worried

Fingers crossed all goes ahead for them and they get to make the most of their bookings!

I think it will be about surge vaccination program in areas with high levels of Indian variant - make sure people are aware it's there and encouage younger adults to take up the option.

Plus a lot of waffle.

Surge vaccination in hot spots?

That will only work when people want to be vaccinated. The hot spots already had issues with the intake,
