So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

@PurpleRainDancer - it’s not over dramatic
fee.org/articles/child-suicide-is-becoming-an-international-epidemic-amid-restricted-pandemic-life-doctors-warn/amp?__twitter_impression=true

And anecdotally, my usually full of beans, optimistic and excited DC have become lacklustre, fed up, tired and devoid of much optimism despite my absolute best efforts to search continuously for fun things to do with them. When i speak about the possibility of going for a meal or a day trip out, they just assume it is all still closed or will be again soon and two of my DC regularly emerge from school with a headache after sitting all day in a useless plastic mask (not in UK) It fucking sucks.

MakkaPakkasSpongyThing · 14/05/2021 16:40

I never thought the dates were set in stone.

Tana433 · 14/05/2021 16:40

@CornishGem1975 Unfortunately both my children are in their 20s and have decided when the time comes they will be having their vaccines. Im not happy at all but they are old enough to make their own decisions about their own bodies now (as am i) My DH has had his 1st and both sets of parents and in-laws have had both of theirs so its not like im expecting them to refrain just because i dont want to have mine. It has caused quite a lot of tension in my family though.

RedcurrantPuff · 14/05/2021 16:44

And I'm not a conspiracy theorist or a plandemic type... I just think the government are using certain tactics to ensure compliance and support for whatever they want to do. Although why they want to do some of these things genuinely baffles me.

I think it’s to try and save face when it becomes obvious that their plans were shit.

PrincessNutNuts · 14/05/2021 16:44

@MakkaPakkasSpongyThing

I never thought the dates were set in stone.
They were specifically stated not to be "data not dates" wasn't it?
Livingmyobituary · 14/05/2021 16:45

Manchester evening news say last death in Bolton Hospital was 28th April.
Bolton is a very mixed area there are large areas under the Bolton MBC banner that are basically on a level with the surrounding areas with pretty much minimal covid . This affects the picture as the BL3 area has a much worse infection rate than appears in the figures.
A local school has had classes closed Apperently nursing homes are still going to be restricting visitors and mask wearing in schools is to be kept going.
I just hope testing will be enough I know a number of local businesses that have stocked up with food for reopening employed staff etc and they will go under if they are not allowed to open.
If Bolton is put in special measures I don't think there is anywhere that's more than a few of miles from the next Borough so people wont stay at home they will travel to pubs and cinemas etc in Manchester, Salford Bury or Wigan.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/05/2021 16:45

It was always meant to be about the data not dates, but everyone got fixated on the dates

CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 16:46

@Tana433 I'm happy to make decisions about my own body but not theirs. If they want to have it then it's up to them but I won't be asking them to.

FluWorldOrder · 14/05/2021 16:47

Are people really not hugging because the government told them not too? Seek help if this is the case.

Blondiney · 14/05/2021 16:48
@JudgeJ You are obviously living up to your username and are apparently also very rude. I am not "dumb" in the slightest. I have weighed up my options. I dont believe we know enough about the long term effects of this vaccine yet and im not prepared to take the risk. Im am early 40s slightly overweight but generally healthy with a good immune system and am happy to take my chances. Judgey people are what is wrong with the country today.
That was generally how I felt about it too but in the end I opted to have the vaccine. Quite surprised by how much of a relief it is actually, especially with it all kicking off again.

Everyone has to make an assessment for themselves and decide accordingly, without judgemental finger wagging.

PrincessNutNuts · 14/05/2021 16:48
@PrincessNutNuts I agree with you. I do think a bit more short term pain could avoid a long term catastrophe. We need to get people vaccinated.
We've ploughed ahead regardless twice already haven't we? And it's been a long term disaster in both occasions.

It would be lovely not to have to learn the hard way again this time, wouldn't it?

We can take some time now, and continue working towards June 21st - or we can stumble on into the third wave and risk cancelling June 21st.

MakkaPakkasSpongyThing · 14/05/2021 16:49

@Lostinacloud the article you are quoting - FEE linked to Koch brothers, linked to Trump - and a Trump style view to the virus?

@MakkaPakkasSpongyThing

I never thought the dates were set in stone.
It goes ahead of conditions are met. They were which is why Monday was going ahead.

June 21 has to meet same to go ahead.

Whether they can say anything still about Monday we’ll see soon

MakkaPakkasSpongyThing · 14/05/2021 16:52

Sorry it was @PurpleRainDancer’s article. FEE are linked to the Koch brothers?

User135644 · 14/05/2021 16:54

@RockingMyFiftiesNot

Local lockdown seems very pointless. People just socialise in the nearest place that is not in lockdown. I agree - but that is why when there have been past surges in and around Manchester they have locked down the whole county because it's all linked up by trams and the city centre is a potential infection hub.
I know when Bolton was in lockdown around autumn time, there were loads of Bolton cabs operating in Liverpool and when the rest of the north west was in tier 3 loads were coming into the city for an day/evening/night out.

The tiers never worked, it just transferred the problem to the next town/area.

Givemeabreakpls · 14/05/2021 16:54

@CornishGem1975 when was this piece made public please?

Seriouslymole · 14/05/2021 16:54

That is terrifyingly accurate but so much of a relief to see that I'm not being totally crazy in my thought patterns.
@CornishGem1975 when was this piece made public please?
Looks from a quick search to have been 28th April

MakkaPakkasSpongyThing · 14/05/2021 16:56

@MarshaBradyo half an hour til we know :( personally, I think Monday will go ahead for most areas. I’m wondering if some areas will still have restrictions. I’ll support whatever is said. Thinks it’s important to remember that it’s the scientific advice, not Boris that is determining this.

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 16:58

Makka yep I should be going for a run but have that conference feeling again

I don’t think hospitality will change it’s too late and they got the go ahead recently

I also don’t think local lockdowns work, and many have said same so will see if that has been same for govt advice

I’ll go with whatever, not much choice really!

ProfessorInkling · 14/05/2021 17:01

If the decision on masks in schools is reversed I will not be sending my DS. He has had enough.

God that's such bullshlt,

If Chris Whitty said that in parliament there will be both video and an official transcript in Hansard.

If you googled that phrase combined with his name loads of newspaper articles would come up...

Queenofbeebers · 14/05/2021 17:02

Two teens locally to me committed suicide last week. The camhs wait list is 2 years long.

The mental health of our children has to start taking priority.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/05/2021 17:02

I always think that, when press conferences are delayed, that they're still arguing about what to say and can't agree.

Hopefully they'll still go to the next step for restaurants etc as planned, as they'll all be getting ready for Monday, with food, staff etc.
