So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

@ProfessorInkling

If the decision on masks in schools is reversed I will not be sending my DS. He has had enough.
I don't know anyone was actually wearing masks in schools. In DC school it only happens when they're walking around.
thefallthroughtheair · 14/05/2021 17:04

It'll be complete nonsense, but was bound to happen as we're in a vortex of hysteria where language and statistics are completely misused to keep the madness going.
Seeing as the vulnerable have been vaccinated, there is absolutely no need to continue ludicrous - and frankly not science-based - restrictions on 67 million people.
If some, despite their vaccinations or their lack of vulnerability, remain concerned, it is their turn to do their bit and stay at home. It is utterly immoral that those with health anxiety and/or no grasp of risk should hold the rest of us to ransom. They can "stay home, stay safe" while the rest of us try to keep the country running.
However, as Johnson has no backbone and is still obsessed with modelling and virtue-signalling instead of real-life data, he'll presumably perform some utterly stupid u-turn, which as usual will most badly affect the poor / children / the North. Hope I'm wrong but as he's a completely immoral fuckwit, along with the rest of the cabinet, I'm not holding out hope.

It's too far down the line now to cancel hospitality opening, but they need to think carefully about opening the borders.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 14/05/2021 17:05

Hospitality is fine as long as pubs enforce the rules - ie sit down, stay sat down and order drinks and food at table. No loitering around the bar. Last summer I was in two pubs that didn't enforce the rules, one allowed ordering at the bar, and one required it, even if you were sat outside.

You can't stop people loitering together outside very easily, but then the chances of outdoor transmission are very low.

Anyway the government did very well with the vaccine programme so lets hope they don't snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory now.
@CornishGem1975 when was this piece made public please?
It's apparently a 'leak' that has been doing the rounds on Twitter. Can't vouch for it's legitimacy.

CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 17:06

@Belladonna12 Secondary school pupils have legally had to wear masks in all lessons, even when seated, since the return to school a few months ago.

Oblomov21 · 14/05/2021 17:06

Summer:

"They should stop Mondays removal of masks in schools - it's a no brained & easy to reverse.

They should put a stop to the indoor socialising & hospitality venues opening etc.

Basically, they should put May 17
'Easings' on hold until further notice, but they're too wet to do it. "

Errr why would they do all of this. Totally not necessary. Indian variant in Bolton? So address that. Locally.

The rest of the uk needs to continue with the easings. For the good of us all, the economy, MH etc.

MakkaPakkasSpongyThing · 14/05/2021 17:07

@Queenofbeebers I completely agree with you there, but if we don’t get control of Covid - the long term impact on mental health will be far worse for all our children. It’s just horrible.

Vintagevixen · 14/05/2021 17:08

@professorinkling maks in school were only ever guidance not law.

I e-mailed my HOY and Headmaster and informed them my daughter wouldn't be wearing one, the reasons why and links.

So they just gave her a badge and she hasn't worn one since they came in. They are guidance not law, and a child cannot be forced to wear something they don't want to.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 17:08

@MarshaBradyo

Makka yep I should be going for a run but have that conference feeling again

I don’t think hospitality will change it’s too late and they got the go ahead recently

I also don’t think local lockdowns work, and many have said same so will see if that has been same for govt advice

I’ll go with whatever, not much choice really!

Go for a run. It's postponed until 5.30
Vintagevixen · 14/05/2021 17:08

*masks

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 17:09

My run is longer than that

smittenkittten · 14/05/2021 17:09

So according to that article, everything is pre planned, regardless of anything. Just what the hell is going on

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 17:09

@BarbaraofSeville

I always think that, when press conferences are delayed, that they're still arguing about what to say and can't agree.

Hopefully they'll still go to the next step for restaurants etc as planned, as they'll all be getting ready for Monday, with food, staff etc.

Yes I always think that too.
CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 17:10

It's the Daily Mail (apologies) but they've literally just shared this as breaking news "Daily Covid cases drop 12% to 2,193 with 17 deaths but the R rate has crept up to a possible 1.1"

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 17:11

@smittenkittten

So according to that article, everything is pre planned, regardless of anything. Just what the hell is going on
I can’t read it, too smudgy on phone, but it won’t be preplanned

It’s adaptive, we’ve seen this all along

Flaxmeadow · 14/05/2021 17:12

Saying it's at 5.30 now

CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 17:13

They can't even appear at a press conference on time, not once. What hope do we have!

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 14/05/2021 17:13

Masks in class is not law only guidean ce

Belladonna12 · 14/05/2021 17:13
@Belladonna12 Secondary school pupils have legally had to wear masks in all lessons, even when seated, since the return to school a few months ago.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't a legal requirement. It was only ever guidance.

CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 17:15

Ah I thought it was legal, apologies.

We were basically told unless they were exempt from wearing a mask they had to wear one. Or stay at home.

TomatoesAreFruit · 14/05/2021 17:15

He is late again - it is so bloody rude and incompetent.

DianeCherry · 14/05/2021 17:16

It's started

"People living in Moray and Glasow will not be allowed to travel in or out of the areas except for in permitted circumstances but businesses affected will be offered extra financial support, Scotlands first minister says.

Nicola Sturgeon says the decision to keep both places in level three coronavirus restrictions by "pressing pause for a few days" will avoid even more restrictive measures over the next few weeks.

She says Moray Council will receive £375,000 and Glasgow City Council £1.05m per week. This will allow them to give £750 a week to hospitality and leisure businesses that will not be able to honour bookings made next week."

NoMLMbots · 14/05/2021 17:16

@winched

Does anyone happen to have the leaked to Twitter document that "predicted" this a while back? I was trying to find it because I thought it would be interesting to see how accurate it turned out to be, but nothing I search is pulling it up.

Until pp mentioned it I was thinking I must have dreamed it!

And I'm not a conspiracy theorist or a plandemic type... I just think the government are using certain tactics to ensure compliance and support for whatever they want to do. Although why they want to do some of these things genuinely baffles me.

Predicted what exactly?

We don't even know what he is going to say yet and yet people are assuming is is a done deal for a lock down or catastrophe. I wish people would chill a bit and step back and look at the low rate of death from covid and look at the high rate of vaccinations and look at the low rate of hospital cases.

Vintagevixen · 14/05/2021 17:17

@CornishGem1975

Ah I thought it was legal, apologies.

We were basically told unless they were exempt from wearing a mask they had to wear one. Or stay at home.

Never legal in the UK thankfully, guidance only. They are not allowed to refuse a child education if they don't want to wear one.
