So, is Monday under threat? Change to school masks or hugs?

The lowest areas of vaccine uptake in Bolton, are the highest areas of Covid infection.

CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 16:10

Agree @Glenthebattleostrich Those who want to stay locked down have the ability to do so. Those who want to continue wearing masks and socially distancing themselves from friends and family are more than welcome to. Those who don't want to have the vaccine are well within their right not to, but the rest of the country shouldn't be forced to live a half-life when we can all make educated decisions based on the information we're given - ie there's little risk to the majority of us and the survival rate of COVID is ridiculously high.

I know, I know, it's not all about protecting ourselves, it's about protecting others, but do you know what? I'm done with that. Everyone now has the opportunity to have the vaccine or the choice shield to protect themselves if they're vulnerable. I am sorry, it might be selfish, but I not responsible for them. We've all done our bit - a lot of us have put our own health, wellbeing, finances on the line in the name of others. It's time to let those who want to, move on.

@TickTockBitches which nhs app?

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 16:11

Great Friday Boris variant conference last thing we need

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 14/05/2021 16:12

I think it's a mix and people need to take some personal responsibility.

CornishGem1975 · 14/05/2021 16:12
@TickTockBitches which nhs app?
The main NHS app that you can link to your medical records etc.

I've just looked and mine is there too "Your COVID-19 vaccine record".

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2021 16:12

I reckon it’ll be surge testing and vaccination surge

But hard to know

Usually we get leaks beforehand don’t we

KurtWilde · 14/05/2021 16:14

@CookieClub

This is ridiculous now.

ELEVEN people have died of covid in the last 24 hours. ELEVEN. Out of 60ish million.

I work frontline, I have seen people in their 80s and 90s recover from covid, with no ill-effects. It has a 98% survival rate.

He cannot keep ruining the economy and stopping millions of people living freely, because some people might catch a virus and some people might die.
In the beginning, yes, it was new and scary and the NHS was on it's knees and over-run. But things have eased massively.

The NHS is ALWAYS over-run, it's short-staffed and underfunded.

Covid has just hilighted that the hardest working are generally amongst the lowest paid.

Boris can fuck off back to his newly refurbed flat and let the stressed out, overworked healthcare staff enjoy some of 2021 please.

Well said.
JudgeJ · 14/05/2021 16:14

Basically, they should put May 17
'Easings' on hold until further notice, but they're too wet to do it.

And therein lies the problem, between a rock and a hard place, whatever he says will offend someone! Many people have been too dumb to follow the rules or to have the vaccine so getting back to 'normal' won't happen for a long time.

LindaEllen · 14/05/2021 16:17

@Whichjab

I wonder if the top down vaccination is coming to bite them on the arse. Yes the older age groups are the most vulnerable but the younger age groups have a wider social circle, especially those with children.
But it doesn't matter so much if those people get it. They had to vaccinate those who were most likely to die of it, that's the point.

It's a virus for goodness sake. We've lived with them forever and will continue to.

Vaccinate vulnerable people annually along with the flu jab and continue living.

PicsInRed · 14/05/2021 16:18

The conference has been put back to 5.30pm. Perhaps it was a big Friday lunch, an unexpected conference, and a pot of coffee is presently being rapidly injected into Boris.

Tana433 · 14/05/2021 16:19

@JudgeJ You are obviously living up to your username and are apparently also very rude. I am not "dumb" in the slightest. I have weighed up my options. I dont believe we know enough about the long term effects of this vaccine yet and im not prepared to take the risk. Im am early 40s slightly overweight but generally healthy with a good immune system and am happy to take my chances. Judgey people are what is wrong with the country today.

RedcurrantPuff · 14/05/2021 16:19

I think the government think our heads button up the back

Before Christmas - misguided easing planned - Kent variant conveniently rocks up to kybosh it
Now - misguided easing planned - Indian variant rolls along

Honestly why are people falling for this total bullshit.

HeddaGarbled · 14/05/2021 16:22

Usually we get leaks beforehand don’t we

Though I think the chatty rat has been neutralised ☹️

ineedaholidaynow · 14/05/2021 16:23

I notice Nicola Sturgeon is getting in before Boris

House2home21 · 14/05/2021 16:25

@Whichjab people in those areas have only go themselves to blame! They can buck there ideas up or get penalised!

Unfortunately I don't think that'll be the case and we'll all be set back somewhat. Personally, I always thought the June 21st reopening was a bit silly, if you're aiming to have vaccinated the whole adult population by a month later why not just wait a month and align it with that!

PrincessNutNuts · 14/05/2021 16:26

Well, have the four tests been met?

Can we proceed with the unlocking?

Should we?

Is going forward now, risking a third wave and another seven months in restrictions a better idea than holding fire for a couple of weeks to investigate what's going on?

@Belladonna12

The variants are the problem and travel increases the chances of variants. Therefore, the sensible thing would be to stop travel. We probably wouldn't be in this position if they have done that year ago but it seems lessons are not learned for some bizarre reason holidays are put in front of anything else.
I totally agree with this, and I speak as someone in the travel industry whose livelihood depends on it. BUT, I would rather have some semblance of normality back for my family.

Surely, if we stopped international travel, there would be a boom year for the UK tourism industry with people travelling in the UK so it's a win-win. Take the money for furlough away from the UK leisure industry and pump it into international travel for another year.

It's like a hobby of hers.

They have been met yes to do Monday date

This was announced recently

Whether we will meet the June date will be assessed

Whether anything has changed in last couple of days even though they were met I guess we’ll find out at 5.30

LeilaLiesLow · 14/05/2021 16:29

@Onedropbeat

The cdc is saying no more masks require for the fully vaccinated so it might be along those lines

Also a bit about surge testing areas again

Why on earth would something possibly going on across the world have any bearing on the UK?

I understand that sentiment.

I had the vaccine and I was willing to accept any perceived risks or effects. However, there's not a cat's chance in hell I'll be agreeing to my teenagers having it.

PurpleRainDancer · 14/05/2021 16:32

@happyface42

Predicted this would happen. Who are we now protecting now the elderly and vulnerable have been vaccinated? We are destroying our children's lives and what for now? The vaccine was out ticket out of this mess and if that won't 'protect' us what will? We have no other option but to get on with life now as carefully as we can but I refuse to lock myself or my children away again. I realise he hasn't come out and said we are going back into lockdown but that's what will be next because this virus isn't going away.
'destroying our children lives'

Don't be so fucking overdramatic @happyface42

winched · 14/05/2021 16:35

Does anyone happen to have the leaked to Twitter document that "predicted" this a while back? I was trying to find it because I thought it would be interesting to see how accurate it turned out to be, but nothing I search is pulling it up.

Until pp mentioned it I was thinking I must have dreamed it!

And I'm not a conspiracy theorist or a plandemic type... I just think the government are using certain tactics to ensure compliance and support for whatever they want to do. Although why they want to do some of these things genuinely baffles me.

MakkaPakkasSpongyThing · 14/05/2021 16:38

@PrincessNutNuts I agree with you. I do think a bit more short term pain could avoid a long term catastrophe. We need to get people vaccinated.
