Hurray!
I am a secondary teacher and just hope it really happens.

How stupid. Masks should stay for now to ensure we don't all have outbreaks. Can't be bothered to read the bullshit justification.

Whatalottachocca · 07/05/2021 06:50

Me too....can’t wait! 😄

Toomanymuslins · 07/05/2021 06:52

I’m pleased. I can’t teach in them!

AppleKatie · 07/05/2021 06:53

To be honest the way they are being worn is so shit they clearly aren’t offering any protection (dirty, pulled up and down literally every 3 mins, not covering noses, stretched out of shape etc etc...) so I doubt this will make much difference.

I speak as a teacher currently awaiting a Covid test result.

Only the vaccine will make me feel reassured.

Spiceyornicey · 07/05/2021 06:54

There is currently a school shut because it has 100 cases out of 900 students.

megletthesecond · 07/05/2021 06:54

We're not out of the woods yet. Surely it would be wise to keep masks until teachers have had second jabs. realises that Johnson hasn't done anything wise in the last 15 months.

Spiceyornicey · 07/05/2021 07:01

We are still in the situation where whole groups of children have to self isolate if exposed to a positive case. It’s disastrous for working parents.

roguetomato · 07/05/2021 07:06

Seriously? Why after some school had 100+ children tested positive?
I think it's too early.

ceeveebee · 07/05/2021 07:09

Perhaps the fact that 100 pupils out of 900 have caught it whilst wearing masks proves that they don’t actually work?

duffeldaisy · 07/05/2021 07:09

The WHO has just officially confirmed Covid is airborne.
A school has just had 100 children come down with Covid, and the government is apparently about to announce the new variant is a Variant of Concern, the same one sweeping through India.

This is not the time to be stopping masks in schools.

Dailywalk · 07/05/2021 07:10

Seems too soon but then I’m not a teacher so I don’t have to deal with wearing one all day. I would have thought there are still lots of school staff in their twenties, thirties and forties still waiting for their first vaccine never mind second? Surely makes sense to wait a little longer?

Toomanymuslins · 07/05/2021 07:10

Exactly.
duffeldaisy · 07/05/2021 07:13

Although I support masks in schools, though, I’d rather they were given the funding for proper ventilation. The weather’s getting better- even supplies of gazebos to do outdoor lessons would help.

This. Exactly. Can't wait for the masks to go in classrooms and thankfully my child's school feel the same
Imreaaaaady · 07/05/2021 07:13

Kids don't wear them properly anyway. They're touching the outside and inside which you're not supposed to do, they don't wear a new one every day, they don't wear them over their noses, the list goes on...

Then you've got the kids who share drinks with each other, spit chewing gum out on the floor and mix outside their bubbles as soon as they leave the gates.

Masks are a red herring, imo and a bloody time consuming one at that.

Toty · 07/05/2021 07:14

Masks obviously not working then.

Sooner the better. We can't expect children to sit wearing masks all day when adults are dining out with dozens of others maskless and community cases are extremely low.

RachelRaven · 07/05/2021 07:14

The problem is, despite all the mothers of little jonny on here convinced of otherwise, they are not wearing them properly. If at all. So they are pointless, but because they are so frequently exposing noses or worn as fake beards.

Exactly... same in France /Spain /Italy where worn for longer and better! It's not just the lack of vaccine. Care homes, hospitals, loads of places "masks worn" where its still rife - those magical pieces of cloths don't seem to help!

Perhaps the fact that only 100 pupils out of 900 caught it whilst wearing masks proved that they do actually work?

I wonder if all those pupils/families in the school have stuck to all the rules elsewhere too?

Thatswatshesaid · 07/05/2021 07:19

I’m a speech and language therapist in schools I don’t think people understand the damage marks are doing to the education and social development of students who have communication needs (far more than people realise). I don’t object to wearing them in shops for longer but kids with SEN, ASD, hearing impairment, dyslexia, English as an additional language etc have all suffered so much in this pandemic and their the most effected by mask wearing.

Another school worker here. They really are pointless when it comes to the kids wearing them. At least one I work with has had the same mask since March and if it's ever been through the wash, I'm a monkey's uncle! 🤮
