Hurray!
I am a secondary teacher and just hope it really happens.

Well, you seemed to think it was unreasonable to tell them to wear masks when the government imposed it , OP, so, it is fairly clear who is picking and choosing to suit.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2021 10:20

I am also curious what the dangerous precedent is?? Where is the danger? You sound rather like you think not doing what a government mandates at all times , unquestioningly, is dangerous. Hmm

Parker231 · 17/05/2021 10:26

Teddington - what about schools where staff haven’t been vaccinated? That is why they are continuing with masks. Sounds sensible to me rather than dangerous. The last thing the school needs is teachers off work ill and education stopping again.

Looksabitbig · 17/05/2021 10:37

Back when masks were only required here for seniors, my dc's school asked for them for all pupils, saying that they their risk assessment required it - the implication being that they had staff who wouldn't be able to teach without the mitigation of masks. Fair enough.

@TeddingtonTrashbag

In my school the Head had said that it is unreasonable to tell the children to do something because it is imposed by he government and then as a school choose to pick and chose which to adopt and ignore. Those headteachers who do so set a very poor example and dangerous precedent to the children .
The precedent of thinking for yourself? That's a good thing! Especially when children are choosing to adopt safe and wise practice in a pandemic, mindful of the safety of unvaccinated teachers.

Wearing a mask is a sign of courtesy and respect for others' well-being.

motherrunner · 17/05/2021 16:16

Masks to be worn at all times tomorrow at my school in accordance with local PHE recommendations.

Xenia · 17/05/2021 16:30

Some , I still don't have my answer. If a pupil has no mask exemption but does not want to wear one can the school them into one and suspend them if they refuse to comply just like with a uniform requirement?

Xenia · 17/05/2021 16:30

,...force them into one...

Parker231 · 17/05/2021 16:32

I don’t suppose we will know until a student breaks a school rule of not wearing their mask. It would be up to the school to decide the punishment.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2021 16:33

They can't technically be suspended for infringing uniform rules xenia.

mrshoho · 17/05/2021 17:04

Both my kids' schools have said they will keep masks in the classrooms until further notice. They are both fine with it and think it is sensible.

noblegiraffe · 17/05/2021 18:38

The guidance was always clear that pupil can't be excluded from education for not wearing a mask.
