If there is another lockdown then I will be ignoring it. Am done with all this now.

OnlyInYourDreams · 06/05/2021 23:57

Jesus, it must be exhausting to live like this. People positively rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of another variant.

It’s been one thing after another:

Firstly there won’t be a vaccine, then it was the vaccine won’t be effective, now it’s there’s a new variant that the vaccine won’t protect again.

Why not go and live in a bubble with your fellow doom mongers.

Ginuwine · 06/05/2021 23:59

@RedAzalea

oh, and AIBU is FULL of threads out of their topic section.....so....its here.

Oh wow. "Everyone else is doing it so I want the traffic too.."

No, as previous posters said.. this should be in the Coronavirus section. Reported.

OnlyInYourDreams · 07/05/2021 00:00

No, as previous posters said.. this should be in the Coronavirus section. Reported. reported here to.

There’s a COVID topic for a reason - so those of us who aren’t willing the end of the population as we know it can hide it.

Lalliella · 07/05/2021 00:01

Go away.

Staffy1 · 07/05/2021 00:09

It concerns me. Not the thought of another lock down, but the fact that children haven't been vaccinated yet. So most children don't have issues, but some do and it worries me with a teenage child with severe learning difficulties and not the best health.

Staffy1 · 07/05/2021 00:12

Why do people get so aggressive about this topic? Of course no one is rubbing their hands with glee. We're allowed to be concerned and discuss our concerns.

DaveMinion · 07/05/2021 00:15

I work at a hospital in the south east. We have at least one case of Indian variant in our icu 🤷🏻‍♀️

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 07/05/2021 00:17

@Staffy1 This isn’t a calm discussion though - surely a calm discussion would be “what impact do you think this variant will have” @RedAzalea jumped straight in with “could this mean lockdown!”

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 07/05/2021 00:21

No.

Quaagars · 07/05/2021 00:22

Oh give over.
I swear some just want us in lockdown forever.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 07/05/2021 00:39

Original poster I and most if not all believe not! But who knows? Can anyone predict the pandemic status in the future. Hindsight is great but who thought the past year or so would have turned out the way it did?

On balance and to provide optimism the UK has a world class vaccination program and luckily relatively few rejector anti vaxxers. There are even (supposedly) third booster vaccines forthcoming. Therefore I truly believe the UK will not be as impacted as elsewhere in Europe. In addition I don’t think Brits will tolerate more closures! Not unless we become impacted like the Indian subcontinent as Seychelles seems latest to be impacted in that wider region.

Zzelda · 07/05/2021 00:40

It is quite concerning that infection numbers are going up again this week.

TruelyWonder · 07/05/2021 00:42

The vaccines work well against this variant.
So long as we keep jabbing nothing to see here

GeidiPrimes · 07/05/2021 00:44

Same here, enough's enough and I'm prepared to start doing what's best for me and my loved ones.

This is probably just another prod from the project fear folk. A small tug on the choke-chain to remind us to behave.

GeidiPrimes · 07/05/2021 00:45

*not the variant itself, I meant the propaganda media reports.

TruelyWonder · 07/05/2021 00:46

AZ has good preliminary data on this one. Which means the others will handle it too. So far there is no variant that the vaccines can't handle. There may possibly be one in the future but not any of are identified so far. Got to love science Grin

Havenholidayhelp · 07/05/2021 00:59

I really hope not after all the population have endured...homeschooling, businesses closed, families unable to see each other, missing funerals, weddings, baby's firsts.

Allowing people to travel back freely from Indian before introducing quarantine can just join the list of the Government's cock-ups - but hopefully not too monumental a cock-up and surge tracing can contain & suppress spread & vaccinations will better protect the most vulnerable.

Havenholidayhelp · 07/05/2021 01:01

*India

fiheka · 07/05/2021 01:17

I am not too concerned about this in the UK. It is the Brazil variant that worries me. And that does affect children and young people more badly and kills more.

PurpleDaisies · 07/05/2021 01:17

surge tracing can contain & suppress spread

They’re not currently surge testing for this variant. They need to officially designate it a variant of concern first.

penni00 · 07/05/2021 01:18

TruelyWonder
Where is the good preliminary data AZ has on this?
AZ is poor against the South African variant.
Why were the gov so slow to put India on the red list for travel? Was it because Boris did not want to cancel his planned trip there? Eventually, he was, it seems, pressured into cancelling it by scientists and Labour. TOO LATE though. Always the same, shutting the stable door when the horse has bolted.

TruelyWonder · 07/05/2021 01:22

The AZ and Pfizer both have good evidence they work against the Brazilian variant now. Which means we should be fine. The less transmission in the community the less children if we haven't jabbed then are likely to catch it.

Reported. If you want to scaremonger at least do it in the Coronovirus section where people can choose to filter.

I don't see any guns getting held to anyone's back forcing them to open any thread, ChilledTeacher.

Gothichouse40 · 07/05/2021 01:25

Michelle- do you know what is going on in Moray right now?
