Hi,
I just had the first dose of the AZ vaccine yesterday and woke up last night shivering and aching all over. Today I have a temperature and feel like I have the flu. Struggling to get out of bed.

Luckily it's Bank Holiday but worrying about missing work tomorrow as I have a very busy day etc... If you had similar, how long did they last? And will I get this with the second one too?

@homesickinscotland I had my first vaccination on Sunday morning. I couldn't have done the school run on Monday and was still too ill on Tuesday to do it. I managed to do it today (half a mile walk each way) but was exhausted when I got back and if I'd had an alternative, I wouldn't have done it.

To be fair, other people seem to be shaking side effects off a lot more quickly than I seem to be.

Best of luck!

homesickinscotland · 06/05/2021 07:06

Oh no, that's awful @glitterandunicorns! Hope you soon feel better. Honestly don't know what to do in that situation, fingers crossed it doesn't come to that, as really can't keep DC off school. Aghhh.

@homesickinscotland I would have done that fine after my vaccine I feel a little under the weather 24 hours later but not enough not to be able to crack on with the essentials. It’s so individual - try not to worry chances are you’ll be fine

homesickinscotland · 06/05/2021 08:31

Thanks twicker that is reassuring - as long as I can drag myself to school it will be fine! Can go back home and have a lazy day after if necessary.

Silkiecats · 06/05/2021 09:55

Homesick - I think about half people don't get bad side effects and if you are normally very healthy probably above average chance you'll be in the feel fine group. For most people the really bad part is around 12 hours so 50-50 chance it won't be in school hours.

Ideally would say best to have vaccine on a Friday or a Saturday but if not possible to move it then would just ensure you have paracetomol in and also drink a lot of water / soft drinks. If you do get it badly then I would take paracetomol and drink and try and find alternative solutions but if none possible and essential then would say its still possible (mine was very shivery then like on fire with aches, bad headaches and drowsy, itchy etc, quite like a bad flu day) but you may feel like the walking dead. I have asthma, allegies and ME so you hopefully will feel fine.

@saraclara

With AZ it's supposed to be the first jab that is more likely to give you side effects, and the second one is better. I have my second one tomorrow, so I hope that's right! With Pfizer and the others of that type, the first one is okay and the second one potentially more of a problem.
Reporting back on my second AZ. Well it was much better, but I did get slightly chilled out of nowhere on Tues night (had the jab at 9am). Nothing like first time round though. Then early afternoon on Wed I suddenly was REALLY tired, like I could sleep. I never nap, but I honestly could just have gone to bed. While that could have been coincidence, it's something that never normally happens to me. A couple of hours later I forced myself to go out and do something, to see if i could knock it on the head, and it worked, fortunately .

But yep, second one much better than the first.

Me too. Had jab 9am Tuesday, was feeling tired and shivery by 5pm. Went home and straight to bed, woke up at 2am with aching bones, chills and banging headache. Got very little sleep. Spent most of yesterday on the sofa. Didn't sleep well last night either - it seems like it's given me both tiredness and insomnia Confused. Feel much better today, just tired and a little headache with the occasional hot flush/chills.

Maggie900 · 06/05/2021 10:26

I was exactly the same. I literally couldn’t get out of bed. I haven’t felt that I’ll in a long time.

Just had my second jab and felt much better, slightly under the weather but paracetamol restored normality.

@MummaPI

My hubby had the AZ Tues lunchtime, poorly with flu like symptoms 12 hours later. Aches, headache and temp, says its just like when he had covid in November. Hoping he will feel better in the morning 🤞
Having posted this last night, hubby woke up this morning, had a shower and its like he was never ill. Literally gone like a switch. Hope that helps some people.

I had my jab on Tuesday morning. I've had a mild headache and felt a bit out of sorts but all manageable with paracetamol.

Only thing is my arm seems to be getting increasingly painful rather than less. Anyone else had this?

loveliesbleeding1 · 06/05/2021 21:02

lochroy yes,my arm had been getting more and more sore since Saturday night and finally came out in a bruise this morning,it’s been so sore I’ve been taking paracetamol to ease it.

FinnegansWhiskers · 06/05/2021 21:03

I’ve had both jabs. Felt like crap the following day after both. It lasts a whole day and then fine again the day after.

If these are mild symptoms I wouldn’t like to have real Covid.

Lochroy · 06/05/2021 21:20

Thanks @loveliesbleeding1 I might need to get back on the paracetamol!
