Hi,
I just had the first dose of the AZ vaccine yesterday and woke up last night shivering and aching all over. Today I have a temperature and feel like I have the flu. Struggling to get out of bed.

Luckily it's Bank Holiday but worrying about missing work tomorrow as I have a very busy day etc... If you had similar, how long did they last? And will I get this with the second one too?

I just posted on another thread OP but this was ne yesterday.

I can't remember the last time I've felt so poorly. I even struggled to get to the loo!

However this morning I feel much better. Bit tired and grumpy and my arm is very sore but that's about it.

Sure you'll feel much better in 24hrs. Lots of rest, paracetamol and fluids.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/05/2021 13:49

@AlmostSummer21

You're supposed to avoid alcohol & strenuous excercise afterwards. Some people realky don't help themselves 🙇🏻‍♀️

@Travelban. I hope you're feeling better soon.

I wasn't told that (not that either apply to me!).
gingerninja99 · 03/05/2021 13:54

My DH had his yesterday and is pretty much at the same stage as you, he managed to get up for a coffee and some soup for lunch then promptly took himself back off to bed. He says he feels better than he did through the night but still pretty crappy

FrenchyQ · 03/05/2021 13:54

Yep, I had mine yesterday morning and felt so I'll last night (temperature etc). Feel achey today and haven't managed to get out of bed yet.

Freddiefox · 03/05/2021 14:00

Had mine Saturday evening, couldn’t get out of bed yesterday. Couldn’t get warm, feel about 95% better today.. so a few hours ahead of you.

Travelban · 03/05/2021 14:00

Sounds like we are all in the same boat, which makes me feel reassured. I hope we all start to feel better tomorrow...atbleast the weather is rubbish so don't feel like I am missing out on a walk or anything nice going on! 😆

Was shivering and felt freezing cold about 6 hours after having jab and was fine after 12 hours or so. I thought I slept ok but my fitness tracker showed me as very high stress and heart rate overnight. DH had a dead arm but that was it.

NeedWineNow · 03/05/2021 18:54

I had mine at around 1ish on a Saturday. Felt rough about 10 hours later - shivery/cold but the back of my neck was burning which is a usual cold/virus sign for me. Went to bed and had a broken nights sleep and felt quite washed out the following day. I said that if it had been a work day I would have gone sick and not logged on. Stayed in and just rested all day but felt as right as rain on the Monday.

I've got my second dose on a Monday afternoon so I'm going to ensure I've got everything done just in case.

Em3978 · 03/05/2021 19:50

I had mine on a Saturday, felt okish on the Sunday, but the next 5 days I felt really sluggish, really heavy, 3 migraines and so tired. Still went to work (Primary school).
7th day back to 'normal'.
Its not put me off the second jab. Got that next month.

Holshicup · 03/05/2021 20:05

Sore arm for a day or two, nothing else.

TokyoSushi · 03/05/2021 20:13

Oh goodness, I've just had mine about an hour ago!!

MargotMoon · 03/05/2021 20:29

I was exactly the same OP. Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight and feel a bit more human in the morning.

idontlikealdi · 03/05/2021 20:46

Couldn't get out of bed for 24 hours. Arm was sore for a couple more days.

Skigal86 · 03/05/2021 20:50

I had mine 5pm on a Friday, woke up feeling not great and got worse through the morning with fatigue, headache and chills then it came and went in waves until about 5pm Saturday night, had an early night and felt fine by Sunday morning.

Silkiecats · 03/05/2021 20:55

I had mine Fri lunchtime - just felt sleepy and dry mouth very thirsty until lunchtime Sat thinking I had bypassed side effects. Then really high temperature, sweating lots then shivering lots for about 12 hours with bad headache and very drowsy then eased by Sunday morning though still not 100% now but more like bad day of a cold whereas Sat was like a bad day of flu. DH had a very rough 12 hours as well and struggled to stay awake, very hot then shivery and headaches after 12 hours then better apart from mild headaches. So similar though I have symptoms like a rash, itchy skin, burning tongue and some skin came off but skin has settled now apart from the itchy rash. Sweating a bit now but nothing like Saturday. Hope you feel better soon.

Travelban · 03/05/2021 20:55

Thanks all, still have a fever and my headache is particularly vicious, I have had an ice pack on it in and off to try and cope with the pain! I am hoping to get a good night sleep and feel more human tomorrow!!

DH has his second one on Friday so will see how he is. He tells me it will be worse, hope not. His brother was really ill after his second but that was Moderna and his brother has previously had a heart attack so not in best of health but BIL / SIL decided on same time vaccines - not a good idea and both were very ill after at same time with a young child. My DH's second was due to clash with my first so I moved ours apart.

TheresAnEyeInMeSoup · 03/05/2021 21:03

Had mine on Saturday afternoon. Woke up on Sunday morning at 3am with headache, chills, feverish etc. I was completely wiped out yesterday. Felt like I'd been hit by a bus and was just totally drained of all energy like a really bad hangover.

Feel better today but not 100%. I'm tee total so I dont think there's any correlation between the jab side effects and booze.

Larsingsong · 03/05/2021 21:04

Same here @Travelban
Had the AZ a week last Sunday morning. Thought I was fine, carried on as normal first day.

18hrs later the symptoms kicked in. Shivering, headache, nausea, fever 40c.

Lasted 24hrs and then completely fine. Spent the night before work shivering again but was fine by Tuesday morning.

MrsMariaReynolds · 03/05/2021 21:07

Yup. That was me on Thursday. Chills kicked in at bedtime, about 12 hours after getting the jab. Spent the next day feverish and achy on the sofa. Took a 3 hour nap. Fever broke around 6pm that evening and I immediately felt better. It's a weird ride.

alloalloallo · 03/05/2021 21:09

DH had his first jab on Saturday night and is still feeling quite ropey

He’s ok during the day, extremely tired and quite achey but is carrying on as normal. At night on and off fever, mega sweats and horrible broken sleep.

🤞 for a good night tonight, he’s back at work tomorrow

Neome · 03/05/2021 21:14

I felt like I’d just had he worst bit of flu. So missing the worst part and diving straight in on day 5 of flu and really not well. Lots of the symptoms you describe but mainly over night weirdly. Completely fine after 3 days.

I was worried it would happen again or be worse with the second dose which I had last Friday 30th but no. I’ve bit a bit tired but not at all ill hooray!

saraclara · 03/05/2021 21:47

I was exactly the same. Ten hours after my jab, I started feeling weird, and within minutes I had started shaking and was the most chilled I'd ever been. I went to bed with so many layers on and over me, but still felt chilled to my bones. Slightly nauseous too. Had a very unsettled night, stayed in bed until lunchtime the next day, migrated to the sofa under a blanket and with paracetamol for the achiness. Felt loads better by evening, fine next day. So basically 24 hours of symptoms.

saraclara · 03/05/2021 21:50

With AZ it's supposed to be the first jab that is more likely to give you side effects, and the second one is better. I have my second one tomorrow, so I hope that's right! With Pfizer and the others of that type, the first one is okay and the second one potentially more of a problem.

Kobrakid · 04/05/2021 00:26

I know I posted earlier with the same symptoms after having the vaccine Saturday but has anyone else been left with a funny taste in the mouth?
