Astra Zeneca first dose - in bed with flu like symptoms... Anyone else?

Hi,
I just had the first dose of the AZ vaccine yesterday and woke up last night shivering and aching all over. Today I have a temperature and feel like I have the flu. Struggling to get out of bed.

Luckily it's Bank Holiday but worrying about missing work tomorrow as I have a very busy day etc... If you had similar, how long did they last? And will I get this with the second one too?

I had mine a couple of months ago and felt shocking from about 8 hours later. Thankfully it only lasted for about 36 hours - very achy, tired, headache and high temp. I struggled to get out of bed.

DH had his Saturday and had the same symptoms, but milder, so he was up and about but looking and feeling rough. He said it felt like a hangover! He didn't have the temp though which I thought was the worst side effect Sad

Due my second in a few weeks and hoping it'll be a nicer experience!

MIL has had worst flu type symptoms for the second dose than she did for the first.

I just slept pretty much the day after my first dose and found myself pretty much dragging myself up the stairs at the end of the day. DH just had a sore arm.

Had mine Sunday eve and spent yesterday (Monday) feeling utterly hideous. It was really badly timed as it was DD's birthday so I had to get up and try and function normally for a while. Got a temp and horrible aches and just feel bleurgh.

While I get that it isn't a proper illness, it feels very similar to when I had chemo and it's brought back awful memories Sad

TokyoSushi · 04/05/2021 07:08

I had mine at 7pm yesterday and have woken up feeling completely fine except for the standard sore arm. I'm 12 hours in, lucky? Or calm before the storm?

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 04/05/2021 07:14

I had similar and was absolutely fine within 36 hours. It's not flu, it's just your immune system kicking in. Hang on in there, you'll likely be fine by this time tomorrow.

KatherineJaneway · 04/05/2021 07:18

I felt off the next day but after that was fine.

Travelban · 04/05/2021 08:13

Good morning everyone! I feel a lot better today. The hideous headache has mostly gone, I still feel a little feverish and a bit off but I am well enough to get up today and work. Still feel a it battered if I tough my head it feels really sore, like when you have a migraine.

I hope everyone else is feeling better too. It's going to be a busubday at work, I hope I get a bit of time to have a break as I am still feeling a bit iffy!!

I had chills and strong aches which started in the small hours. Paracetamol helped and the chills came back more mildly the following evening. After that I was fine save for a slightly sore arm for a couple more days. I've had covid before which can make the immune reaction stronger. Avoid alcohol for a couple of weeks afterwards if you can.

loveliesbleeding1 · 04/05/2021 09:58

Had mine at 6pm Saturday, sore arm immediately after.Chills and tiredness Sunday all day,and very sore arm, could not touch it.Had to go to bed Sunday afternoon for a few hours.Monday still felt a bit rough but no chills and no fever, didn’t get dressed all day, today very sore red arm at injection site but feeling better, still no appetite and a sore stomach which I’ve had since Sunday.

loveliesbleeding1 · 04/05/2021 10:01

kobrakid yes me too. I feel that my front bottom teeth taste acidic and very sensitive, almost painful.

PlugUgly1980 · 04/05/2021 10:16

@AlmostSummer21 - I wasn't told that either. I kept to my current training plan and ran 16 miles just prior to having mine, then ran 6 miles the following morning as I felt absolutely fine. No side effects at all. I appreciate I'm very lucky, but just to give a different perspective.

AnnPerkins · 04/05/2021 10:18

I felt the same after my first OP. If it's any reassurance, I had my second on Saturday and have only have a sore arm and a bit of a rash.

Kobrakid · 04/05/2021 10:53

loveliesbleeding1 yes! I’ve got the teeth thing too! So glad not just me

Ormally · 04/05/2021 11:47

DH knocked out by it (1st) - just up and about now 1.5 days after.

MeanderingGently · 04/05/2021 11:53

I was exactly the same, including all the aches. Mine went in 24 hours and I was fine, have been fine since.
A year ago I had COVID...if you x the vaccine symptoms by about 100 and add breathing difficulties and coughing in for extra, you might get some idea....I'll take the vaccine symptoms any day.

ZenNudist · 04/05/2021 11:57

Similar but paracetamol held it at bay so I could work. Ok the next day but felt very tired for a few days.

VaVaGloom · 04/05/2021 12:08

No I feel a bit tired but no way near as bad as I was imagining from friends & family experiences & mumsnet posts. Hoping I've been lucky.

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 04/05/2021 14:42

Had mine on Sunday. I was fine yesterday (except the arm ache) but now in bed with headache & fatigue. Hopefully I'll be feeling better tomorrow!

TokyoSushi · 04/05/2021 18:56

Ugh! I was doing so well, no symptoms at all, 22 hours later and I'm starting to feel decidedly weird, arm feels completely dead abs aches everywhere else! I thought I'd escaped it!!! 😣

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 05/05/2021 21:57

Mine took a full 48 hours to kick in! I thought I had got away with it...

DateLoaf · 05/05/2021 22:01

Felt really rough with proper flu aches and pains for maybe 24 hours then but then fine with first dose.

Sixgeese · 05/05/2021 22:33

Lasted 48 hours for DM, when she had her second, nothing for 3 days then one day of flu symptoms.

On the other hand when DH had it he milked it for almost a week. Not looking forward to his second dose.

MummaPI · 05/05/2021 23:24

My hubby had the AZ Tues lunchtime, poorly with flu like symptoms 12 hours later. Aches, headache and temp, says its just like when he had covid in November. Hoping he will feel better in the morning 🤞

homesickinscotland · 05/05/2021 23:30

I am worried reading this...if I get the worst side effects where people say they stayed in bed, will I still manage to walk my young dc a mile to school and collect later? (No- one else to ask) I don't think I've felt properly ill in the last 30 years or more so have no frame of reference!

CHILLLADIES · 06/05/2021 00:23

Ten hours ago for me, I've had a bonkers dream which may or may not be relevant. I have no choice but to work tomorrow so I really hope nothing kicks in between now and the morning.
