How many tests have you taken?

I've yet to take one and from what I've seen I'm definitely in the minority! DH hasn't either. DD took one, last year, and it was negative (she had a bit of a sniffle/cough and the symptoms had gone by the time the test arrived in the post).

No PCR tests.

Quite a few LTF tests because dd is at school.

Xiaoxiong · 21/04/2021 17:36

DH - tonnes (teacher)

Me - one because the ONS posted me one randomly back in November

DCs - none (primary age)

PCR tests are for people with symptoms, @dementedma. Lateral flow tests are for asymptomatic testing, eg for health care workers, secondary school students, parents of school children etc.

Lateral flow is the one with the fairly instant result which you do yourself if you're asymptomatic, PCR is the laboratory one you get done at test centres/get and return through the post, which you take if you have symptoms.

We're all being encouraged to do two LFTs a week to keep an eye on asymptomatic cases (they're free from pharmacies). We only go to the supermarket at quiet times, nowhere else, so don't come into contact with anybody really (DH is wfh). And cases are currently suppressed here. Not sure if it's worth us taking them but if things deteriorate or the advice changes we will.

Thanks. Apparently I need the PCR one before I travel to France,plus one done there, plus two when i get back here during isolation.

XenoBitch · 21/04/2021 18:00

Are LFT and PCR tests the same? For some reason, I imagine LFT is where you have to breath into something. I know that isn't the case!

Floweree · 21/04/2021 18:01

4, and DS has had about 6. Without toddler germs in the household probably be 0!

BruceAndNosh · 21/04/2021 18:03

One PCR to be allowed out of travel quarantine, and a LF every time I volunteer at vaccination hub.
None based on symptoms

OpheliasCrayon · 21/04/2021 18:03

@Londonwriter

12 (so far)

I have a rare immune disorder that causes episodic fever, headache, sore throat, joint and muscle pain, night sweats, insomnia and the occasional rash. Every time I report these symptoms, I get offered a COVID PCR test by the JoinZOE app...

I get these symptoms with my arthritis and my drs told me not to test for them if it's at the time of day and feels the same as the usual fevers I get with arthritis...

OpheliasCrayon · 21/04/2021 18:10

Oh and I think I've had about 7pcr tests (but some were routine ones when in hospital) and tons of LFTs for work

RuthW · 21/04/2021 18:11

About ten in the beginning, weekly as part of a trial. Not LFT.

28 LFT, I test twice weekly.

0 as I have symptoms

I'm not sure of the exact differences, as I've only done the LTF ones, but they aren't the same.

PCRs are much more accurate.

paralysedbyinertia · 21/04/2021 18:18

For LTF, you have to swab your tonsils and up your nose. Not sure about PCR, it looks similar but I haven't done one. No breathing into anything for the LTF tests.

FlagsFiend · 21/04/2021 18:19

4 PCR (1 through ZOE, the other 3 due to symptoms and I was positive once).

11 or 12 Lateral flow, have been doing 2 a week for school (I'm a teacher) since my 90 days post-positive was up.

LindaEllen · 21/04/2021 18:19

0 but I know I've had covid as DP tested positive and I had the same symptoms and hadn't been anywhere to catch anything else 🤷🏻‍♀️

crispychicken12 · 21/04/2021 18:20

I've had 4 PCR's

Had symptoms 3 times, all negative. Fourth time we had symptoms and MIL tested positive and had been babysitting for us. We were negative

I do lateral flows weekly because I work in the nhs.

Never had covid, currently have what I think is hayfever but my throat is burning. So will test again tomorrow.

I'm 23 weeks pregnant

LifeinPieces21 · 21/04/2021 18:25

Just done a LFT and its saying negative. I got some as have a teenager at school. Done about 5. Not done any of the other ones.

MRex · 21/04/2021 18:26

Me = 0
DH = 1 (REACT study)
DS = 2 (first inconclusive, second negative)

It's been nice not being ill this winter. Unusual.

Spied · 21/04/2021 18:29
