Vaccine jabs every 6 months?

Susan333 · 03/04/2021 15:30

Matt Hancock along with other government advisors have suggested that the vaccine may need to be administered every 6 months with Autumn boosters already being prepared for this year. I just wondered if everyone will be keen on taking them every few months if required and whether we will get the same enthusiasm as we have had for this current takeup of the vaccine?

I suppose it will become a routine where we pop down to get the vaccine every few months and become a norm of modern day life

@Moondust001 why? Don’t you think your vaccine will work? Isn’t that the point of being vaccinated, so if you come across the virus - in an unvaccinated child, medically exempt person, a vaccinated person who hasn’t developed immunity or another non-immune person, that you don’t get seriously ill?

Not wanting a vaccine passport doesn’t make someone a ‘covid denier’ Hmm

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Thanks - and yes, indeed.

It's all a bit suck it and see at this stage really I suppose.

(Not advocating any irresponsible sucking of course Grin )

Given that covid kills mostly elderly infirm people with the average age of death above life expectancy, did you expect the small number of people who have been hospitalised with covid not to return to hospital statistically and be swanning off to vegas?

Do you really need to be such a dick about it? You’re clearly not after a balanced conversation at all, you just want an echo chamber patting you on the back telling you how clever you are.

Ok, the whole world has been hysterical for absolutely no reason. If only you’d had a global platform to be able to tell everyone where they are going wrong. It’s a tragedy you’ve been silenced like this.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/04/2021 16:11

Somewhat related but are the government doing a spectacular job of spreading confusion over the whole issue?

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/apr/04/vaccine-passport-wont-be-required-england-covid-safe-pilot-organiser-say

This seems to go back on the earlier article today, and undermine the whole point......

Or is it just me??

CrunchyCarrot · 04/04/2021 16:30

Wow. Well that Guardian article puts paid to the idea that vaccine passports are overwhelmingly what the public wants! Clearly they do not.

titchy · 04/04/2021 16:36

what part of if a patient has had covid within 28 days of death regardless of the cause of death means it will be on the death certificate

Errr try reading what I said. They are two separate measures. One, what goes on the death certificate, is arguably more accurate because covid will only be named if it was a contributory factor.

The gov is using the other measure in their official stats. That doesn't look at what's on death certs at all.

They're not the same. Hmm

murbblurb · 04/04/2021 16:37

Or not what the people of Liverpool want, anyway.... The venue owner there reports malicious emails wishing him death by covid. Nice.

titchy · 04/04/2021 16:38

And clearly I meant you have to look at excess deaths this year as far as possible given the sheer numbers that died at the beginning of this year. 80k last year, plus another 40-80k this year - massive massive numbers of excess deaths. It you seem to think none of them matter cos they were mostly old people. Hmm

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/04/2021 16:40

The tug of war for hearts and minds is thoroughly underway.........

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/04/2021 16:42

As I apparently have no mind I'm going with me heart.

No, wait. DH tells me I'm heartless too.

Won't someone tell me what to do?

PuzzledObserver · 04/04/2021 16:49

People who don’t have the flu vaccine could be putting others at risk, but we don’t stop them going anywhere.

Covid is roughly 10 times more likely to kill people than flu. That’s why there may (it’s not certain) be restriction on people not vaccinated against Covid, when there are none against people unvaccinated against flu.

Yeah I agree, that's absolutely not on.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 04/04/2021 17:53

I don't think it will be a big deal like it is now.
You will probably get it from your doctor.

Actually we’ve vaccinated the majority of the people it’s most likely to kill.

So why are doctors and Uni lecturers still hiding behind their sofas? Why are teachers still howling with anguish at having to go into classrooms?

LilQueenie · 04/04/2021 20:11

Matt Hancock talks crap. You can't have this type of vaccine so often as the vector will stop working.

I think the government did a bit too good a job of scaring everyone into staying at home this last year. There’s another thread about it going on at the moment.

There are many vectors... Sputnik for example uses a different one to AZ. we manage to tweak flu every year. I'm sure the scientists will manage CV.
PuzzledObserver · 04/04/2021 21:15

Indeed we have - far more of them than we normally vaccinate against flu, and with a much more effective vaccine than we have against flu. Which is excellent news, but doesn’t change the fact that your argument that we don’t do this for flu doesn’t hold water, because Covid is much more dangerous than flu.

It may be we don’t need to, or decide not to, have restrictions. I hope so, actually.

bumbleymummy · 04/04/2021 21:38

I wasn’t the one comparing of flu. I merely pointed out that we don’t try to put the same restrictions on people who haven’t been vaccinated against flu even though they put immunocompromised people at risk.
