Will you be going back to the gym?

I've got so used to exercising outdoors I'm not looking forward to indoor excercise again.
Running outdoors compared to running nowhere on a treadmill? No contest.
Anybody else changed how they view excercise this last year?

Yep, can’t wait to get back to weights and spin classes.
I’ve been doing some HIIT classes via zoom and the odd PT session outdoors weather permitting but definitely miss the gym for the weights and spin.

I can’t run - always end up with aches and pains and problems with running so have accepted it’s just not for me - but when I used to occasionally I much preferred running outdoors so I wouldn’t be rushing back to the gym if running was my exercise of choice

HarrietOh · 26/03/2021 14:27

I likely caught COVID at the gym in November, all it caused was a headache, and I can't wait to get back!
Proper exercise with weights you just can't beat IMO. Doing my own spin/strength classes at home just isn't the same, plus missing proper heavy weights!

sociallydistained · 26/03/2021 14:30

I’ve been working out 6 days a week at home and I have a lot of equipment and also run. But I’ll be heading back to the gym as soon as it opens. I’m keep to build on what I’ve worked on at home with heavier weights and my gym is a very welcoming environment so looking forward to the buzz again. I also used to do early mornings before work which I have been doing at home but it’s soooo much harder! Something about that drive to the gym with the tunes on and then walking into the bright lights whilst it’s still dark Grin

My gym is starting outdoor classes next week too and I’m all signed up!

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 26/03/2021 15:19

I do a lot of hiking which I'll keep up, but you have to go uphill and be out for a few hours to get any benefit. I've missed my spin classes because they are higher intensity. Followed by a cool down swim. I used to do a mix of both. I'll be back at the gym in 3 weeks (my 1st vaccine is tomorrow).

DrunkenKoala · 26/03/2021 16:40

I don’t go to the gym but I do swim, so will be going back twice a week and DD will be restarting swimming lesson. DS will be going back to football but that’s outdoors.

towers14 · 26/03/2021 16:54

Yep, can't wait. Disappointed classes not starting till May though.

Villanelle17 · 26/03/2021 17:04

Yes as I mostly do resistance machines and the gym is my me time. Have been walking and doing exercises at home but never get any doms and I've lost muscle, which I need to hold my joints in place as I have ehlers danlos syndrome

Pootle40 · 26/03/2021 17:24

Absolutely - with or without a vaccine. I went regularly between summer and them closing at Xmas so why wouldn't I?

Pootle40 · 26/03/2021 17:27

@LucilleTheVampireBat

Absolutely a million per cent yes, can't wait to be back. Ridiculous that gyms closed at all in my opinion but hey ho.
^This.

Country with obesity problem........
Higher risk of Covid if obese......
Shitty winter weather......

What did we do? Allow people to become more obese.

Fembot123 · 26/03/2021 17:28

Yes yea yes but not instead of running as well as, I love group exercise.

Fembot123 · 26/03/2021 17:28

I agree with you as ever @LucilleTheVampireBat

Squeejit · 26/03/2021 17:29

Absolutely! There’s only so much you can do at home with a resistance band. I can’t wait to get back on a spin bike.

Midlifephoenix · 26/03/2021 17:30

I do PT and pilates, and it has converted well to Zoom. I do miss dine of the machines but not the drive out there and back (more than doubling the time). So I'm happy to do it via zoom.
My son however cannot wait fir the gyms to reopen. He is very in to his fitness and though we have a treadmill and he hired some weights off the gym, he likes the contact, comraderie and meeting his friends there, plus the variety. And if you are a bit competitive, there's nothing like a spin class!

Squeejit · 26/03/2021 17:30

@Villanelle17 I’m exactly the same. I need to get strong again.

Lordamighty · 26/03/2021 17:31

Yes, can’t wait to go back, use the gym & all the other facilities.

PilatesPeach · 26/03/2021 18:23

Yes, I'm an instructor so need to get back to work and earning and am teaching a few outside classes from Monday at one of the chains - all the others are not doing outside classes so will be 17th May earliest when we go indoors for group exercise. Have lost so much money as only worked 4 months out of 14 by the time we get back indoors!

inmyslippers · 26/03/2021 18:23

Yesss! I'm so fat I just can't wait to deadlift things till I'm sick

Hollywhiskey · 26/03/2021 18:32

@Chickenriceandpeas it's not so much why run on a treadmill when you can run outside, so much as I personally hate running on a treadmill, I guess to the point that it's hard to imagine anyone might tolerate it. I still have one though just in case I ever can't run outside, better a treadmill than no running!
I like the idea of going to the gym and lifting a weights but toddler related not covid related I can't afford the time or money. I have got more weight than I can lift at home so I should just find time to do that.

BlusteryLake · 26/03/2021 19:02

I am unlikely to ever go back. I have really got into the swing of home exercise this past year and I love the flexibility of doing whatever class I want at the time it suits me. It's so much easier to fit in exercise when I don't have to travel anywhere.

I love doing random different classes they have on YouTube, some are bizarre and hilarious.
Smileyoriley · 26/03/2021 19:28

Yes! My physical and mental health has taken a dive since the gym closed. I just miss the whole experience- classes, seeing others and the facilities my gym has such as pool, sauna, steam room etc. There is something for me that taking myself away to a place designated to my health cannot be matched even though I cycle and walk quite a lot.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 26/03/2021 19:58

Swimming for me, will be in there the moment they open

Myfrenchfriend · 26/03/2021 20:46

Absolutely will go back. Scottish gyms are 26/4 can’t wait to get back to using proper weights and my favourite machines again rowing and legs and they have a great ski piece of kit.
I felt so safe with their booking system every station you cleaned with you own fresh cloth and sanitiser bottle.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/03/2021 21:53

I mainly run and do outdoor exercise classes so have had less disruption than average. I do miss being able to rock up to a council swimming pool if I'm needing a gentle workout or the weather's grim. Not been in a pool for the past year because the nature of the conditions doesn't match my casual use. I miss the opportunity though and would happily go. I've sat through the DC's lessons through the autumn and they're starting up again soon, so I've faced the "risk" without the personal benefit.

DieSchottin93 · 26/03/2021 21:56

I will be. I have a small, basic home gym set up but it's just not the same. I also miss swimming terribly, I tried to replace it with a couple of short jogs a week but just injured my knee instead Angry
