@mentalblank

The report today that 20M Pfizer / 1M AZ doses have been exported to the UK ( www.theguardian.com/society/2021/mar/25/eu-leaders-told-bloc-has-sent-21m-covid-vaccine-doses-to-the-uk?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other ) doesn't look good for the EU - it looks exactly in line with what was expected (about 5M Pfizer doses a month and a very small amount of AZ). Hard for them to complain that the UK is getting "their" AZ doses in a scenario where almost all the UK doses are actually coming from the UK (or India)...
I think they want U.K. doses though don’t they?

And using Pfizer as grounds to get it

Although seemingly don’t know figure (hmm hope they don’t read mn ;)

Thank you. I’ll keep this link for when my Spanish friends accuse the uk for stealing their vaccines
StarCat2020 · 25/03/2021 20:06

The EU exported 21 million doses of vaccine altogether.

It didn't all come to the UK

Wakeupin2022 · 25/03/2021 20:06

I think they want U.K. doses though don’t they?

I think they have always wanted our doses. Including when they signed the contract in August!

StarCat2020 · 25/03/2021 20:11

Ignore what I posted above

I had a link somewhere but until I find it

FourTeaFallOut · 25/03/2021 20:14

1m AstraZeneca doses? Is that it?

Avondklok · 25/03/2021 20:16

@Itsalonghaul

Are the EU really going to face the headlines and news bulletins that they are going to kill children by withholding vaccines?

Are they actually happy to be responsible for the deaths of the CEV group because they are seizing vaccines at ports?

How are they going to explain to their citizens who have already been through enough, no more pjizer will be available as the Yorkshire plant has stopped supplying raw materials?

They are not seizing vaccines at ports and all these headlines are mainly dreamt up by U.K. media who want to distract from the fuck up that is Brexit. Vaccine wars my arse. Eu media post this as a sensitive situation as they need the vaccines they were promised,

All the fake news i have seen has come from journalists in EU member states.

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2021 20:19

A lot of noise from MEPs for a non existent issue then.

They want doses but haven’t got them due to what? Their own issues.

It seems U.K. will be cooperative though

FourTeaFallOut · 25/03/2021 20:21

8% efficacy az rates from un-named sources and clandestine shipments bound for the uk are interesting highlights.

Baileysforchristmas · 25/03/2021 20:21

Yes looks like it, straight from UVDL mouth today, they’ve made all that fuss, caused absolute mayhem and still have no plan how to get more vaccines, a lot of hot air without any benefit, wasting time while infections are soaring in Europe.

It's good to know we have stock to cover the second Pfizer doses at any rate.

Umbivalent · 25/03/2021 20:23

Told you they would fudge it. It seems to slowly be sinking in that they were about to make a massive fuckup. Unlike Article 16, which nobody got any notice of.

Motorina · 25/03/2021 20:24

Sooooo this is all about Az undersupplying on it's contract, and failing to deliver to the EU.

And the proposed remedy is to block exports of vaccine to the UK. Inspite of the UK having recieved a grand total of one million doses of the Ox/Az vaccine, and none at all since the first of February.

Or it's about reciprocity. When almost all exports to the UK have been Pfizer, and we have supplied them with Pfizer ingredients without any restriction at all.

Truly, this couldn't stink any worse if I shat on it.

deliciouschilli · 25/03/2021 20:25

We have a massive new manufacturing plant that is looking to open way ahead of schedule in Essex so we will be shot of the EU corruption soon and we will be ahead of the game for any future pandemics.

I expect a huge brain drain of scientists from EU countries and a sharp exit by pharmaceutical companies once this has calmed down.

Avondklok · 25/03/2021 20:25

The jingoistic crap I have seen on these threads makes me actually ashamed to be British. DM headlines swallowed hook, line and sinker. It's so clear that the reality is that U.K. signed a licence agreement with Oxford that they got first dibs. AZ were then made to accept these terms. AZ have not been transparent in their dealings and have not kept to their contract. The EU is now angry and looking at ways they can force AZ to comply. It's not to do with punishing UK or EU trying to kill CEV kids. This is ridiculous hyperbole. Best efforts actually means something in Belgian law - not just, "oh we'll try our hardest to get you something." It means, "what one could reasonably expect from a supplier with such experience and capability"

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2021 20:25

Moderna is produced in Spain isn't it?

Maybe that’s at risk?

Umbivalent · 25/03/2021 20:26

Oh dear. You appear to have drunk the Koolaid. Their "blame the Brits and the British press for this shitshow" tactic seems to have worked with you Smile

God that jingoistic DM line so old.

What does the contract say about first 300m from EU factories?

EasterIssland · 25/03/2021 20:29

@MarshaBradyo

Its Swiss bottled in Spain using British components I believe so not that easy to block it neither and also it’s I believe 5-7m only. So whilst it’d make an impact it’s not as big as others
MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2021 20:29

Thanks Easter

Yes, you're quite right @Avondklok, we all only get our opinions from the Daily Mail. Not Politico.eu, or the Guardian, or anywhere else previously mentioned on this thread Hmm

God, I do get tired of the "You should stop believing everything the tabloids tell you!" brigade, who always resort to that when they don't have a cogent argument.

God, I do get tired of the "You should stop believing everything the tabloids tell you!" brigade, who always resort to that when they don't have a cogent argument.

Exactly it’s trotted out all the time

Mostly I listen to people on R4 which includes at source info MEPs, scientists etc

Avondklok · 25/03/2021 20:34

Jingoistic DM is old because it's mostly true. You are all swallowing the line the evil EU is out to punish U.K. This thread is full of it. The U.K. is an absolute cluster fuck of flag waving and rights being dismantled under your very noses. Brexit is bankrupting business by the day. Headlines however are about EU stealing your vaccines.

Baileysforchristmas · 25/03/2021 20:35

@Avondklok if there is a legal issue with the contract between AZand the EU then they the EU need to sort it down the legal channels. The EU have gone about this completely the wrong way, wasted people’s time, which we don’t have as we’re in middle of a pandemic, vaccines in people’s arms is what’s needed, they haven’t move forward at all, they’ve just made a lot of noise with no forward progress.
