Ethylene oxide on covid swabs?

241 replies

Kaylasmum49 · 24/03/2021 08:11

I had a friend send me an article about the swabs used in covid tests being coated in ethylene oxide. It says that there is a risk of certain cancers with using the swabs. I think my friend is being sucked into the conspiracy theories and she keeps trying to get me to read all these theories.

Has anyone heard anything concerning about the swabs. My dd is testing twice weekly for school.

If you were to line up every cleaning product, make-up product, grooming product, sanitary etc product in your house and list the ingredients, then google for the potential for them causing cancer, ingredients that you inhale, rub on your skin, leave on your skin and hair all of the time, a little bit of EG on a swab that touches your mucous membranes for a few seconds might become the least of your worries. [please do not do this if you have a diagnosed condition related to health or anxiety fears as this would be like a bottle of vodka to someone trying to stay sober]

“ There is absolutely no shame in trusting the judgement of people that are more knowledgeable than you, none at all. ”

This. I know lots about some things and on those topics I can be trusted. Part of my professional chartership is to understand the boundaries of my knowledge and judge what I shouldn’t be advising people on.

On subjects I don’t know I trust those who have expertise. Professional expertise if relevant.

It’s such a shame that trust in experts is so low that people believe watching a few YouTube videos gives them an insight missing from qualified people who have trained in their subject for years.

Thank you for asking the question, I was a little worried and joined Mums net literally to look for other Mums opinions on this. Thank you. X

LilQueenie · 26/03/2021 16:54

You do realise its a gas at room temp so probably no truth to it at all

LilQueenie · 26/03/2021 16:57

sorry whilst my previous comment is accurate it is used in the swabs to sanitise them like most other medical equipment. We all likely been subject to it at some point or another including medical professionals who work with it.

Will you be telling them off too for answeing the poor womans query. She said nothing about vaccines or being 'anti vax' just concerned for her child as a good parent would be. No need to go on the attack, Please be kind to others

NaturalHerbalFoods · 26/03/2021 18:27

@Saucery

So she’s getting sucked into batshit anti-vacc conspiracy theories and you thought you’d spread them further on here? I wish MNHQ would clamp down on these disingenuous anti-vacc posts.

mollymo36 · 26/03/2021 20:09

The conspiracy theorists have been right so far, So I dont know why you are calling them nutters, Google it, its bad news and your kids are getting tested twice a week.

Myalternate · 26/03/2021 20:23

@Motorina
Does your friend smoke? Drink alcohol? Have sex? Cook meat? Go out in the sun? Put diesel in the car? If so, she's exposed to far, far more powerful carcinogens than this.
(This is concern regarding children’s school testing swabs) Hmm

star1459 · 27/03/2021 02:23

If the swabs are manufactured and bare a
CE marking to packaging with 4 small numbers next to it then they are fully reviewed by notified bodies for regulatory compliance to sterilisation standards. Part of that standard is ETO residual testing. They will be safe and tested.
Working in regulatory the NHS are very stringent with Compliant product at present so they would not purchase in regulated medical goods

Hturner42108 · 27/03/2021 03:40

Sorry but this gets me mad.. As a heath scientist. There's lots of people of who given their opinion about this.. Yet some of these in are society won't listen and are those who wouldn't hesitate to shove a cocaine or any other substance in their body yet are concerned about a test for covid. Think they are more things concerning as a risk to life

I had my vaccination at home on Wednesday, the nurse didn't even swab my arm, walked in, drew up syringe, bang in my arm & left, wasn't in the house 3 minutes. I do intramuscular injections daily, have never swabbed the site yet in over 6 months of injecting, I only use a swab if I hit a vein & bleed after withdrawing the needle to clean up.

Nat6999 · 27/03/2021 04:20

Sorry thought you meant for vaccinations, not testing.

Ephe17 · 27/03/2021 08:31

well said. they won't listen though, too brainwashed by the govt and msm

Yuri Bezmonov was right. He tried to warn us.

Just so that nobody panics. Ethylene glycol is used as antifreeze in engine coolant, but alcohol is used in screenwash.
