Ethylene oxide on covid swabs?

I had a friend send me an article about the swabs used in covid tests being coated in ethylene oxide. It says that there is a risk of certain cancers with using the swabs. I think my friend is being sucked into the conspiracy theories and she keeps trying to get me to read all these theories.

Has anyone heard anything concerning about the swabs. My dd is testing twice weekly for school.

I’ve been swabbed many times due to work. I’ve noticed afterwards I have headache and runny nose. What could be the cause?

I'm not a biologist or a chemist, but I'd be inclined to suspect it's the physical aspect of the swab that's causing this.

I’m all for being people concerned but come there are actual scientists on this thread being ignored... wow just wow. There is no major risk from a swab.
Opening your window or walking past a car will expose you to far more chemicals than a swab that have been used for years in hospitals not just for covid. But of course the scientific explanation doesn’t for the agenda of some.

Yes I have been swabbing myself twice a week I’m not worried, the wine I drink once a week is more damaging, or maybe those masks I’m forced to muzzle myself with on the ward are making me breathe chemicals that will kill me

It’s not nearly as lethal as this stuff which is everywhere.

Ethylene is the gas that bananas produce as they ripen (it's the stuff that makes other fruit ripen quicker if they're next to a banana and why bananas go black quickly if you put them in a bag).

I think you may be thinking ethene, but there's still no risk from the COVID swabs, it's used routinely for sterilisation, I've worked with it myself.

It's no secret they have to write it by law.
Ethelyne oxide is a dangerous toxin and carcinogen .
It's on the national cancer research website as a highly toxic chemical that can contribute towards leukemia and lymphoma.
It can also be used as a steralizing agent .
You have the facts the choice is yours whether u want it shoved up Ur kids nose and throat every few days.

I roll my eyes at most of this stuff. A woman online told me all the swabs have covid on them already, therefore your test come back positive and you contract it whilst getting your test....strange that my test came back negative as fid my DH’s. Our tests must have been faulty.

Hi. I'm really glad for the insight on ethylene oxide for lft. It has reassured me, as I was looking up this info. Not impressed with some attitudes as to label persons as anti-vaxers and conspiracy theorists. We are in a time of new things being put out there so we should all be free to research and ask questions without these labels being attached. There's enough fear out there already.

This argument/discussion takes me back to the public meetings in Birmingham when there was much debate regard8ng fluoridation of the water supply. One lady confronted the “ scientific expert”. She ranted on about how she had to travel to Malvern every week to fill up enough 5l containers with spring water to use as drinking water because she would not drink fluoridated tap water.
The “expert” waited for her to finish then asked her how many cups of tea she drank daily. She was puzzled by his question until he explained that tea contained a high concentration of fluoride, probably much higher than the 1 ppm the water supply provided.

I disregard any supposed proof unless I can source it on google scholar which filters out the bullshit and scaremongering.

First and foremost there’s no need for ignorance and rudeness. Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. How you chose to safeguard and protect you child/children is your right. Question everything especially if you don’t know/understand something. You don’t just listen to what your being told cause you will never know. Allopinions I agree but I do wish people would use reliable peer reviewed information on which to base their opinion and choices.
Risk analysis is key. Humans are notoriously bad at risk assessment hence why we see busy A&E depts at weekend. So many accidents/events are easily prevented.
It amazes me that the same parents who worry about putting “chemicals” into their children’s bodies, happily buy them a trampoline.

The swabs are sterilised using Ethylene Oxide. This information can be found in the leaflet, manufacturer’s website and Department of Health and Social care site. You can google it.

The chemical is carcinogenic (cancer-causing) and the most dangerous way of exposure to it is INHALATION.

It’s in black and white for you to read on legitimate government websites. All you need to do is your own research. Stop blaming ‘conspiracy theorists’ for your laziness and fear. You sound dumb.

Oh and while I’m here, the same government that everyone trusts that’s stuffing carcinogenic substances up your noses so close to your brain are the same government that have just extended lockdowns until September who initially said it was only going to be 2 weeks in March 2020...
