Quick vaccine questions from an emetophobe

Subordinatethatclause · 07/03/2021 11:41

Will definitely have the vaccine when offered BUT trying to prepare myself psychologically...

If you've had the vaccine could you answer these questions for me?

  1. Did you feel nauseous afterwards?
  2. Were you actually sick?
  3. Did you have diarrhoea?
  4. If yes to any of the above, how long did it last?

Thank you x

Noone I know has had those symptoms with the vaccine including myself. The side effects I've known people have are headaches, feeling achy, tired and shivery. Never heard anyone have any digestive issues.

Sadless · 07/03/2021 18:26

I had my jab at 11. 30 this morning and aren't feing any thing just yet. I cleaned the car yesterday and woke up this morning feeling like I had done a work out. So I have gerenal pain before the jab see how it goes now.

I had the AZ one. I had a headache and felt shivery for 24 hours but no sickness.

Coffeeandaride · 07/03/2021 18:29

Had 2 vaccines and none of those side effects

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/03/2021 18:29

I’ve had 2 Pfizer jabs.
Apart from a sore arm for a few days I was fine.

HandyBendySandy · 07/03/2021 19:38

That's really interesting @TrunkintheJunk, thanks - I first had clinical help in 1994 due to depression and noticed that the phobic anxiety eased up, but it drifted back when I stopped taking them. After a really bad spell of it in about 1999 (panicking at work about every tiny thing, full on public meltdown when someone said their child had been sick in the night), I asked my GP to go back on them and stayed on them ever since. Lofepramine is a really ancient tricyclic anti-depressant though.

But there is no way I would be in the same street house as anyone vomiting, let alone hold a bucket (don't even like the word bucket), so citalopram sounds impressive!

BungleandGeorge · 07/03/2021 19:53

No gastro effects. I don’t know anyone who has, the most common are sore arm, headache and fatigue

User594022452 · 07/03/2021 20:57

Another emetophobe here and had both Pfizer shots without any problems.

  1. Did you feel nauseous afterwards?
Not at all. I did feel slightly queasy the next day (nowhere close to vomiting though) however I suspect it was more to do with my cycle as I felt exactly the same 4 weeks later around ovulation.
  1. Were you actually sick?
Nope
  1. Did you have diarrhoea?
Nope

My personal reasoning is that the chances of being sick from catching covid is vastly highly than from a vaccine! So it's a huge relief to have the shot and no longer have to worry about getting infected. Now I can go back to only concentrating on avoiding norovirus Grin!

Diesse · 07/03/2021 21:01

Had mine. Wasn’t nauseous at all.

No to all of the above. And my DH has had his too with no side effects.
Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 07/03/2021 21:28

I am an extremely severe emetephobe, I had the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday and have had no side effects apart from a very, very sore neck. No sore arm, no headache, nothing. Also had fairly dark urine despite drinking plenty, but not heard of that as a side effect from anyone yet :/

Pissedoff1234 · 07/03/2021 21:34

I had Pfizer and only had an achy arm. I know many people who have had it and the AZ one. Most had very little effects other than achy arm, a few had chills, headache and felt a bit rubbish but I haven't personally heard of anyone feeling or being sick.

lurker101 · 07/03/2021 21:38

AZ - None of the above, I did however have all 3 when I had suspected Covid (pre-widespread testing) for several days.

forcookssake · 07/03/2021 22:02

I've had mine (AstraZeneca) and I answer NO to each of your questions. I hope your jab goes well Daffodil

Gardenvisits · 07/03/2021 22:05
  1. Did you feel nauseous afterwards? -yes I did feel a bit queasy and lost my appetite (b unusual!)
  2. Were you actually sick? No
  3. Did you have diarrhoea? No
  4. If yes to any of the above, how long did it last-queasiness-less than 12 hours. Felt a bit tired and headachy for about 24 hours then woke up completely fine
JamieFrasersLover · 07/03/2021 22:14

No nausea or sickness, but of a sore arm and that's about it really.

Cotbedy · 07/03/2021 22:29

I had mine yesterday morning and I feel absolutely rubbish today. My arm hurts so much I can't use it, I have a headache, fever, feel like I have mild flu - which is exactly how they describe it! So pretty unwell basically, but absolutely NO stomach upset/nausea/vomiting/diarrhoea. Nothing like that at all. Try not to worry (I'm an emetophobe myself so completely understand the panic!)

Tatum1234 · 07/03/2021 22:31

No to all. I had a temp in the night and felt a bit achy the next day but no signs of any sickness.

Mrsrightagain · 07/03/2021 22:32

I have emetophobia. After vaccine Pfizer I felt a little nauseous but not enough to stop eating. To be honest it was probably panic. Lasted a few days.

Pericombobulations · 07/03/2021 22:42

AZ on Thursday. Fellow emetophobe too so feel your pain.

  1. Brief waves once or twice a day, apetite was reduced.
  2. Nope
  3. Nope
  4. very brief waves, barely noticeable unless you are an emetophobe.
whatisforteamum · 08/03/2021 00:52

Dh only had sore arm dm sore arm and itchy skin.
Dbro flu like and his Oh had a headache.
My dsis said she felt nauseous lost her appetite however she know I'm an emetophobe and likes to wind me up.
My jab will be soon and I will take it.

VikingsandDragons · 08/03/2021 12:53

Also an emetophobe. I had mild nausea, but easy to distract from especially as my arm felt like it had been punched, no other stomach issues. No one I know has had any side effects at all from AZ, I had pfizer.

palacegirl77 · 08/03/2021 12:57

I had the pfizer. 2 days after the jab I had a bit of an upset tummy and a few waves of nausea but didnt feel 'ill' and wasnt sick.

Bouledeneige · 08/03/2021 13:04

I had AZ yesterday. I felt lousy overnight and this morning - flu like symptoms, headache, fever and aching joints. Paracetemol has worked well. No sickness or diarrhea. I've been texting a couple of friends today - two felt exactly like me and another was sick twice. She thinks it was due to having a high temperature so advised me to keep taking the paracetamol every 6 hours not just when I feel bad (her son is a doctor). Of course I also know quite a few people who haven't had any symptoms.
